Episode 9: Interactions between Law Enforcement and Persons with Mental Illness--Responding Responsibly

In this episode of Neurolawgical, I focus on discussing a research area of interest for me: improving law enforcement's response to people with mental illness.  Tiana and I have a dialogue about my thoughts and a paper I wrote on the topic, and the implications and recommendations. Since 2015, over 1,360 people with a known mental illness have been shot and killed in police-involved shootings (The Washington Post, 2020).  Join Tiana and I as we talk about this important issue facing our communities and ways that law enforcement has and can continue to take actions to prevent the negative outcomes.  This episode is relevant to anyone in the law enforcement field, criminal justice professionals, mental health advocates and professionals, and students/researchers.   Interested in learning more?  I am also going to be doing a live 1-hour talk on it through the 8th Annual Global Well Being and Social Change Conference.  Please contact me if you are interested in registering for that conference and/or reading my now PUBLISHED paper.   I always welcome feedback, comments, or questions, so please feel free to reach out to me via email: neurolawgical@gmail.com or through social media on Facebook (Neurolawgical) or Instagram (@neurolawgical_).   Sources:  The Washington Post (2020) https://www.washingtonpost.com/graphics/investigations/police-shootings-database/

Episode 5: Still a missing person, still missing information, new charges [Update on Linda Stoltzfoos case]

This episode is part of an ongoing investigation into the missing person case of a woman named Linda Stoltzfoos, missing since June 21, 2020. Linda disappeared from a Lancaster County, Pennsylvania community over six months ago, and although a man is behind bars related to the case, there are still many unanswered questions. **Please note, this article may be difficult to listen to for some people due to its content, listener discretion is advised.** Join me (Alex) and Tiana as we discuss the details of the case after new updates have been released. We also discuss the idea of a case being prosecuted without a body being found, and Tad DiBiase's three leg stool approach of evidence.  If you or someone you know has information about this case please contact: Pennsylvania State Police at 717-299-7650, East Lampeter Township Police Department 717-291-4676, or the FBI at 1-800-225-5324. You can also read and see related images to the story at my blog post at LINK. Please note that some parts of the episode contain lighthearted comments and these in no way meant to detract from the seriousness of the case. Rather, they happened naturally in regard to other parts of the discussion.  After the update part of the episode: Stick with us til the end for a discussion of what I'm reading, listening to, and watching. Yes, I finished a book! Mentions:  Methland by Nick Reding Natural Disaster by Ginger Zee Justice by Dominick Dunne Women & Crime Podcast (two episodes!) Episode 2: Doing this episode some justice, let's talk about the system.

Welcome back to Neurolawgical: A True Crime Podcast to be Psyched about!   Episode two is a conversation between me (Alex R.) and co-host (Tiana K.) about the criminal justice system basics.  This episode serves as a BRIEF introduction to a system that is highly complex.  We cover the beginning of the process, statutes, victims and the criminal justice system, and differences between the juvenile and adult systems.  Tiana asks about my thoughts on the "pressing charges" phrase.   The episode ends with the recurring segment:  what I am reading, listening to, watching, and trainings.   Additionally, there is a teaser about the partnership with the Turning Leaf Project which will be released shortly as a bonus episode.   Please check out Turning Leaf Project's website and their creation of Neurolawgical merch!   https://www.turningleafproject.com/product/short-sleeve-neurolawgical-logo-t-shirt/?v=c65242dc6c2c.  100 percent of the proceeds from those shirts go to help TLP's mission.   ***DISCLAIMER: This episode mentions the terms sexual assault, rape, homicide.*** Episode mentions: Women & Crime Podcast, Small Town Murder Podcast, American Murder: The Family Next Door (Netflix), Lakeside Global Institute Trauma Competent Professional Training, Compass Mark Positive Change Conference, Turning Leaf Project.   Please follow Neurolawgical on Facebook and @neurolawgical_ on Instagram and subscribe wherever you get your podcasts to keep up to date on new episodes!
