The Genesys Archives

I am sure this crew are blast to listen to for younger folks, but I am past 50 and listening to them tell their story is still a joy. Reminds me a lot of the best of times playing RPGs at school and in my 20’s when free time was a plentiful commodity. They sound like the type of group I hope my son falls in with when he heads off to Univercity. These days I raise dairy goats and listen to the Genesys Archives as I do my rounds of the ranch. Many podcasts are also just a bit too slow for me to comfortably listen to, but either by chance or design Caitlin has these so they are perfect for me at 1.5x speed. When I hit the end I will most likely listen through a second time before having to go find something else. Note: They do not always get the technical details of the RAW “right”, but they bullseye the spirit and intent just about perfectly. If you are young or old… new to RPGs or been playing them for 40 years… give them a listen and you will not regret it.

If you are a fan of rpg podcasts like Critical Roll or The Adventure Zone, or a fan of urban fantasy books/shows like the Dresden Files, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, or Supernatural, then this show is something you will enjoy.

I found this podcast entirely on accident and I’m happy I’ve seen it. They play using the Genesis system and if you don’t know this system it is very important you look up some rules. They don’t begin having “mechanics moments” until the 3rd or 4th episode and even then you only get a bit at a time. The characters are fun and interesting. The DM does a great job. The opening vignette is always very interesting and very well told. The sound design and sound engineering has space to grow but you can usually hear everyone pretty clearly. At the end of the day this show isn’t professional voice actors or practiced improv comedians playing an rpg together. It’s friends working together to tell a story and having a good time. Worth a listen if you are experienced with rpgs and want to hear about a new system/an interesting setting
