The Lord of Spirits

This is a fantastic podcast for people of all stripes. It has helped me look at scripture in a whole different way than I grew up with, which is good. However some of the episodes are so academic that it either goes completely over my head as a layman or I just zone out completely. Hence the title. Thank you Fathers and everyone helping with the show behind the scenes! Steiner math FTW.

I am a reformed Protestant who has been digging into Orthodoxy and this podcast has been a fountain of knowledge. Even though I have not dove into Orthodoxy myself, I find I agree with most of how they view authority, theosis, repentance, Christian asceticism, and the overall Christian life. It feels as if my fellow Protestants are so focused on correct terminology and arguing their position that they miss how beautiful and biblical Orthodoxy is. I don’t necessarily think I agree with every tradition they say is from the early church and that is where I struggle the most, but I also think Protestants have lost sense of the what the reformation was about and they ought to reform again. I digress. I have learned a vast amount from this podcast and I am thankful for these men being faithful to God and the Holy Scriptures. I love the banter and side conversations, it’s like a comedic show with great historical knowledge and theological depth! Truly a joy to listen to (even when they tell me I’m stupid for being a Protestant 😉)

This is one of the best podcasts I’ve ever listened to in terms of substantive treatment of topics and a rare angle on theological topics. Other reviewers seem to want a perfect podcast with non-playable characters as the hosts. Lighten up, gang. The banter in the episodes are nostalgic of talk radio and, frankly, makes it easier to digest. Who actually enjoys a 3-hr meal of nonstop steak? You need sides.
