    SoulFood Sunday x Everton Blair

    This week, we have the opportunity of discussing the importance of education access and how we can work together to mitigate the learning disparities across all communities. Tune in, turn up, and get ready for a Sermon on how YOU can be the change you want to see. Everton Blair is the first person of color, the youngest-ever and the first openly gay member of the Gwinnett County Board of Education — serving 180,000 students and 1 million constituents in the largest and most diverse school system in the state of Georgia. He is the son of Jamaican immigrants and a graduate of Gwinnett County schools. A former AP Calculus teacher in Atlanta Public Schools, Everton comes to the Board with district, state and federal education policy experience - including serving as a Fellow in President Obama’s White House Initiative on Educational Excellence. In November of 2018, Everton flipped the formerly Republican seat on the school board by 31 points (R+17 to D+14) with the most votes ever cast in a Georgia school board election and a 480% increase in young voters aged 18-29. Everton received his Bachelors in Applied Mathematics from Harvard College and his Masters in Policy, Organizations and Leadership from Stanford University.
