The Podcast That Made Me Rediscover What Gaming Can Do For Us
11/12/2021
As someone who has been playing video games since they were only 5, they were actually kind of a big part of who I was, until one day I sort of put down the controller and never picked it back up — it just sort of faded away as a hobby, I guess. Recently, I played a story-based, AAA video game (just like the ones I mainly used to play) for the first time in years, and I remembered why I used to be a “gamer”. I liked the feeling of getting lost in something but also having the control to decide exactly how to get lost in it. My partner has been playing a lot of video games — nothing super crazy but definitely more than he normally would. Today he came to me and told me that he was struggling and the reason he was playing so often was because it was something else to focus on that gave him an opportunity to stop ruminating on the things that were difficult. Partially because of this podcast, and partially because of my own experiences, I was able to tell him I completely understood. I love the insightful yet slightly controversial recurring question of “do you identify as a gamer?” to guests — always prompts a reaction! I always find myself laughing with Spencer and Jamie — I can hear their friendship through the speakers 😌

Much Needed Diverse Voices In Gaming
06/23/2021
I heard about this podcast through The Cozy Robot Show and I love what I’m hearing. In this realm that is rampant with white male stereotypes, it’s a breath of fresh air to hear from other voices about the gaming industry, games, and the impact these games have today. Being a white straight male, I’m looking forward to learning and growing through the stories shared here so we can make gaming more inclusive and accepting. Thank you for this podcast!
Gamers and Non-Gamers Alike Should Listen To Pixel Therapy

The work that Jamie and Spencer (the hosts of Pixel Therapy) are doing for inclusivity in gaming is beyond important. The conversations they facilitate with one another and with their expert guests are thoughtful, emotional, funny, real, loving and informative. I find myself smiling, nodding, learning, and occasionally tearing up while listening to this show. I’ve never listened to the entire episode library of a podcast before Pixel Therapy, nor have I been so moved to go online to write a review. There is so much value in this podcast. I sincerely hope that Pixel Therapy continues on for years to come.

I am so happy I found this podcast! I like this pod because it tackles issues not talked about in other pods, such as race and gender. It is nice to hear two wonderful hosts discuss this issues in the context of gaming.
The podcast I never knew I needed

This podcast is such a delight and joy to listen to. Spencer and Jamie are incredibly open and vulnerable with wonderful guests that bring a much needed fresh perspective to gaming and queer culture. It’s really opened my mind thinking about how queerness and gaming can intersect. The perfect podcast to listen to in the background of my Hades runs. The music is great, the segments are perfectly on theme, and I just love it! Highly recommend!

Gaming from a Different Perspective

Listened to the episode, "What Makes a Video Game Great? Plus, Why We Don't Like Multiplayer." Great intro and music! Spencer & Jamie, love all of your chemistry and banter between each other! Enjoyed the humor and puns throughout the episode. Felt like I was in the room listening to the two of you reminiscing about video games. Being a gamer myself, playing Valorant and PUBG, I could feel the multiplayer pressure on me. I have felt like dead weight countless times. You guys did make some valid points – Favorite quote, "I approach every game like a relationship." This is really a great podcast! Discussing video game culture, mental health to timely topics within a broader social and cultural context! Will stay tuned for future episodes. Recommend this to anyone who enjoys listening to new perspectives on video game culture.
Stunning, fantastic, please stop reading reviews and listen to this

This podcast is absolutely amazing. I have never heard people talk about this aspect of video games and oh wow is it interesting. This is the first podcast I’ve listened to where I could give all of my attention to it, and that’s coming from someone with ADD so my brain will stop paying attention to anything not cool weather I want to or not. So this podcast has officially earned the seal of approval from my brain. I seriously can’t praise this enough. This has three episodes as of me writing this and it’s already so so so good. Please keep making episodes and I will keep watching them. Y’all are amazing! Keep up the good work!
Love this much-needed perspective on gaming

I’m a trans guy who grew up playing video games and they had a massive impact on my own understanding of gender identity. It’s honestly been years since I’ve played games but listening to Spencer and Jamie was like finally getting to have a cool trans gamer friend group of my own. (Even if the term Gamer is up for debate in their eyes, haha). Subscribed and can’t wait to listen to more!!
