    Is Demon Possession Still Happening Today?

    A recommendation led to a 2023 movie called Nefarious, a Christian horror film about a death row inmate who claims to be possessed, and a psychiatrist trying to determine if he's insane or telling the truth. The theology in it is sharper than expected, and it got me thinking about something a lot of us have heard before: the idea that demon possession in the New Testament was just an ancient, unscientific way of describing what we now understand as mental illness. Looking at several real, documented criminal cases where the person described hearing voices commanding them to act, we need to not be too quick to write off spiritual explanations in these scenarios. In a culture that largely doesn’t believe evil is real, we need the name of Jesus more than ever. If you or someone you know is hearing voices urging self-harm or harm to others, please treat that as an emergency. Call or text 988 (the Suicide and Crisis Lifeline) or go to your nearest emergency room right away. Prayer and professional care are not in competition with each other, and command hallucinations telling someone to hurt themselves or another person are a serious warning sign that always deserves immediate professional help alongside anything spiritual.     Why We Don't Care About Diversity

    Here's the problem with chasing diversity as a goal: whatever you pursue is your idol. If you're spending your energy engineering a certain look for your tribe, that's energy you're not spending on the Great Commission. Nobody would ever tell an all black church in Nigeria or an all white church in rural Virginia that they need to diversify. Bottom line: stop letting culture hand you a bullseye you can never hit.
