    108. After 6 Years, I Have Something to Tell You…

Well, Bristles… this is an episode I never thought I'd record. 🥹 After six years, 100+ episodes, countless conversations, and a whole lot of growth, I've made the decision to step away from the Brush with Britt Podcast for the foreseeable future. In this episode, I'm sharing why I've made this decision, what this podcast has meant to me, and what I've learned about knowing when it's time to close a chapter. And while this chapter is coming to an end, Brush with Britt isn't going anywhere! My passion for prevention, education, medical-dental integration, and moving our profession forward is stronger than ever. The best part? Our library of 100+ episodes isn't going anywhere either! Whether you're a student, new grad, or seasoned RDH, I hope you'll continue listening, learning, and sharing these conversations. To every guest, listener, and Bristle who has supported this journey: THANK YOU. You've made these last six years something I'll always be proud of. Here's to knowing when to turn the page, making room for what's next, and remembering that growth sometimes means letting go. 💗 Keep asking questions, keep advocating for prevention, and never underestimate the impact you can make as a dental hygienist. 107. What Happens When a Dentist FINALLY Puts Prevention First?

What if the most important department in a dental office isn't restorative… it's HYGIENE/PREVENTION? 👀🦷 In this episode of the Brush with Britt Podcast, I'm sitting down with Dr. Brian Edwards, DDS, to talk about something I'm incredibly passionate about: building dental practices that prioritize PREVENTION, not just production. Let's be real. Too often, dental hygiene is treated like a revolving door of cleanings instead of the foundation of long-term patient health. But what happens when a dentist truly values their hygiene department, invests in their hygienists, and builds a practice around keeping patients healthy rather than just treating disease? We're diving into the importance of a prevention-first practice philosophy, the relationship between dentists and hygienists, and why empowering the hygiene department benefits EVERYONE. Whether you're a hygienist tired of feeling like a prophy queen, a dental student figuring out what kind of office you want to work in, or a dentist looking to do things differently, this conversation is for YOU. Because dentistry shouldn't just be about fixing problems. It should be about preventing them in the first place. LET'S STAY CONNECTED! 💕 Connect with Dr. Brian, email: drbrian@threetwothree.com Want more dental hygiene education, clinical tips, and conversations about the future of our profession? 106. From Hygiene School to Reality: A New Grad Tells All

I Thought Hygiene School Was the Hard Part… 👀🦷 Hygiene school is tough, but what happens when you graduate, get your license, and suddenly YOU'RE the hygienist?! In this episode of Brush with Britt, I'm joined by Anistinn, a dental hygienist approaching her first year in clinical practice, to talk about the REAL transition from dental hygiene student to practicing RDH. We're getting into her very first day as a hygienist, the challenges she didn't see coming, navigating patient care on her own, building confidence, and everything she wishes she knew before graduating. But Anistinn's journey started long before she earned her license! During hygiene school, she served as president of her cohort, tutored first-semester students, worked as a Dental Hygiene Academy Liaison with AndyRDH's Student Board Review, and built a growing social media following by sharing educational content for dental hygiene students. And she's not stopping there! Anistinn hopes to earn her bachelor's degree in dental hygiene, become an educator, help bridge the gap between medical and dental insurance, and expand access to oral healthcare for individuals in assisted living facilities. Whether you're a dental hygiene student preparing for graduation, a new grad trying to find your footing, or a seasoned hygienist who remembers those first-day nerves, this episode is packed with relatable experiences, lessons learned, and encouragement for the next generation of RDHs. 🎧 Because passing your boards is one thing… but surviving your first year as a hygienist? 103. What They Didn’t Teach You About Production and Insurance in Hygiene School

In this episode, we’re breaking down the business side of dental hygiene in a way that actually makes sense. Because understanding production and insurance isn’t about money; it’s about confidence, patient advocacy, and knowing your value as a hygienist. We’ll talk about what production really means, why insurance knowledge matters, and how understanding the numbers helps you communicate better with patients, support proper treatment planning, and grow into a stronger, more confident clinician. This is the kind of conversation I wish we had more of in hygiene school and one that can completely change how you show up in practice. You don’t need to memorize everything. You just need to start understanding it. And that’s exactly what we’re doing today. ✨🦷🧚🏻🪥🩷 Disclaimer: This episode is intended for educational purposes only and reflects general concepts related to dental production and insurance. Information shared may vary by practice, region, insurance provider, and state regulations. 102. Premedication: What Every Hygienist Should Know

Premedication can feel confusing, especially when guidelines have changed and every office seems to handle things a little differently. That’s why I’m so excited to welcome Sue Scherer, RDH, BS to the podcast to help break this topic down in a way that actually makes sense. Sue is the Education and Professional Relations Manager for Water Pik and has been a dental hygienist for over 20 years, with experience as a clinician, instructor, CE speaker, and author. She’s passionate about helping dental professionals understand the science behind the guidelines, especially when it comes to topics that often bring confusion to patient care. In this episode, we talk through who truly needs premedication, which medical conditions qualify, what procedures require it, and how to confidently verify everything before treatment. Sue shares practical insights and real-world clarity that hygienists can take straight into practice. If you’re a student, new grad, or practicing hygienist who has ever second-guessed whether a patient really needs premedication, this conversation will help you feel more confident asking questions, verifying information, and protecting both your patients and your license. Disclaimer: This conversation was originally recorded in September 2025 and reflects guidelines available at that time. This episode is for educational purposes only and is not a substitute for professional clinical judgment or current guidelines. Always follow the most up-to-date recommendations from your supervising dentist, physician, and professional organizations when making clinical decisions. ADA Premedicaiton Guidelines
