    Mr Picklesworth's Power Hour 2

All tracks taken from a wonderful mixtape by Jay Buckwold. Jay is a long time member of the Pacific Bluegrass and Heritage Society — probably the founder or at least the president at some point. He also ran the bluegrass camp in Sorrento for many years. Jay plays a great version of Fresh Fish on the banjo, which sent me searching for a digital copy or otherwise. I couldn’t find it, so Jay gave me this tape. I love it and I listen to it every day on the way to work — my car has a tape deck...doesn't yours? Several of these tracks are hard to find digital copies of, so here you go. Pared down from the original 90 minutes to about 60 — if you want to hear the whole thing you'll have to ask Jay. It took some prying out of my fingers, but he eventually got his tape back. --------------------------- Tracklist --------------------------- Fresh Fish - Steve Keith Bluegrass Express - Osbornes Bang You're Alive - Scruggs - Flatt Nashville Skyline Rag - Denis Lepage Two Twenties - Bill Keith Oh Susannah - Larry McNeely With Care From Someone - D.Dillard Sledd Ride - Danny Menzone (Traver Hollow) Top of the World - Earl Scruggs Whole World Round - Dillards Tennesse Breakdown - Herb Pedersen Eddie on the Freeway - Country Gentlemen Hearts Overflowing - Seldon Scene Clinch Mt. AK45: Halloween 2011

Well what can I say? This year was nucking futs. Easily a couple hundred people. At 3:00am, there were buses coming from downtown, completely full of people in costume heading to "that villa party." Was it out of hand? I can't decide that for everyone. Some people loved it, others thought it was way too crowded. At the peak, the dance floor was strictly "do the minnow" room only. Amazingly no cops were called. They stopped by once on a routine drive by to note, "that's way too many people on the roof." A valid point. I've got no idea what the load capacity of the villa roof is, and I'm not interested in pushing it to failure. As usual, a couple "aspiring DJs"/drunken assholes kept f*****g with the DJ gear. You can hear one of them banging away on the piano, and being ejected at exactly 45:10 in the mix. The other guy, after his second warning, said "I do it because I love you man." Fair enough. Roommates Brad and Greg helped with DJing, and DJ GoreMay. Brad and GoreMay bookend this year's mix. Thanks to everyone who attended, for the good times, great costumes, and good spirits. As always. --------------------------- Tracklist --------------------------- AK45 Set: ZZafrika - ZZT Off the Wall (Tradelove Remix) - The Black Project Shave It - Zedd The Legend of Zelda - Zedd Rattle - Bingo Players Party Rock Anthem - LMFAO Rumble In the Jungle - ZEDS DEAD You've Got the Love - Florence and the Machine This is Halloween - Figure Undah Yuh Skirt (feat Mavado) - ZEDS DEAD I.D.G.A.F.O.S. - Dillon Francis Barbramyte (DJs from Mars Remix) - Duck Sauce vs. Taio Cruz Big Al Downing - The Georgia Slop Wynonie Harris - Quiet Harris El Camino Real - Lee Dresser Bonkers - Dizzie Rascal 9000 - Carl Tricks GoreMay Set: Big Bad Wolf - Duck Sauce Bounce (all I do is party) - MSTRKRT Feat N.O.R.E.

AK45: Side A - Roll Out - Jump Blues and Rock

I'm all about the cassette tape right now. My car has a cassette player, and instead of trying to circumvent it with tape adapters and FM transmitters, I'm embracing the technology. I bought a Nakamichi DR-2 recorder and hit up the thrift stores for blank tapes. I love the process of going from vinyl, to digital, to tape. It's a great marriage of technologies, and in the end I get to hold something. This mix is 30 minutes per side, perfect for a 60 minute blank tape. Dub it to tape, pop it in the car, and drive mother drive! Or, you can buy a cassette from me and it will be the best possible quality: straight from 48 KHz 24 Bit digital audio, through the Nakamichi, to tape. Every copy is a master! Plus it'll be super personalized n' shit. But enough about the medium, onto the message: Jump Blues and Rock. The mix touches on a lot of different genres, from jump blues to 50s rock to rockabilly to garage to gospel, but if I had to peg down a common thread, I'd say it's music that MOVES. A bit about the cover picture: Careless Whisper and Kenny G likely have damaged the legitimacy of the saxophone beyond repair, but if we go back to 1948, we can see how the instrument was supposed to be played. Big Jay McNeely killing. --------------------------- Side A Tracklist --------------------------- The Caprells - Close Your Eyes The Sonics - Have Love, Will Travel Vince Taylor - Brand New Cadillac The Champs - Panic Button Harold Jackson - Freedom Riders Blanche Thomas - You Aint Such A Much Ken Craig - Silver Coin Sparkletones - Black Slacks Anne Cole - Each Day Calvin Boze - Baby, You're Tops With Me Lonesome Lee - Lonely Travelin'
