I just found this podcast and the title of this episode caught my eye. As a devout Christian and theologian, I was curious about the thoughts discussed in this show. Knowing nothing else about the podcast, I went in open minded.
However, I was very disappointed. Not because they were talking opening about sex and their perspectives on sex and religion, but because the guest who was supposed to be an expert because he served as a youth pastor at one point did not have a solid Biblical understanding of sex and feed the hosts perspectives.
I was more saddened because it appeared that all three of the people in the discussion had terrible examples, teaching, and experiences in or around churches as it relates to sex. Many of their examples were simply wrong as it pertains to Christian doctrine. They never have had the proper and true Biblical teaching about God’s design for sex. They quoted many common opinions about the Bible and different characters in the Bible with a very distorted view and interpretation.
The hosts are semi-engaging and seem sincere in their discussion, but are so jaded toward anything related to religion, because of their limited experiences, that they brought in a guest expert who would reinforce those perspectives.
To make this a real authentic examination of sex and religion, they should bring in a guest that is qualified, will challenge their thinking, and provide proper context, examples, and insights from the Bible. They don’t have to agree, but it would at least present an accurate representation of Christian perspectives of sex.
