Google Just Changed The Internet (And Your Brand Is Not Ready)

In this episode: Why the ten blue links era of the internet is ending The shift from search to ask, and what it means for discovery What AI is actually rewarding now (and why volume is no longer the moat) The Interpretation Gap: the silent reason smart founders are being skipped The ChatGPT client story that made this real for Monique What Google announced at I/O and the one line of news nobody is talking about Why smaller, clearer experts are now outranking bigger, vaguer brands The new definition of a brand: retrieval infrastructure, not marketing asset Who wins the next era of the internet, and who quietly disappears Quotes worth pulling: "People stopped searching. They started asking." "AI is not reading your content the way a human fan does. It is trying to categorize you." "A smaller but clearer expert can now beat a bigger but vaguer brand. That has never been true before." "Your brand is not just a marketing asset anymore. It is retrieval infrastructure." "The people who win next are not the loudest. They are the clearest." Next week on the podcast: Monique sits down with Carol Cox, founder of Speaking Your Brand, whose business is already 20 to 25 percent ChatGPT-referred. They get specific about what AI is reading, what women specifically need to protect in this shift, and what becomes more valuable as machines get smarter. Emma Grede's Playbook: What She Did in 14 Days That Most Women Won't

About this episode Emma Grede has been a billion-dollar consumer brand operator for almost a decade. She co-founded Good American with Khloé Kardashian. She's a founding partner of SKIMS, currently valued at $5 billion. She sits on the Obama Foundation board. She's on the Forbes list of America's Richest Self-Made Women. And until April 14, 2026 - per WWD - she was, quote, "for the most part, an enigma." Two weeks later, she's everywhere. This isn't a hot-take episode. This is a strategic breakdown of what Emma Grede actually did - the four moves, the engineered soundbites, the year of infrastructure she built before the launch - and why most accomplished women won't run the same play. Plus a real-time announcement: Monique is writing her first book and searching for the right literary agent, in public, on this podcast. What you'll learn The four moves Emma Grede executed in 14 days (and why each one is reproducible at smaller scale). Why "I'd be more worried if nobody was talking" is the most important sentence of the entire book tour. The trade between being quotable and being safe - and why softening your take is what's keeping you uncirculated. Why most accomplished women won't run this play, even when they have the receipts to. And the smaller version of the play you can run starting this week. Chapters 00:00 - Cold open: the woman everyone's talking about 01:30 - Who Emma Grede was six months ago 04:30 - What she did in 14 days 08:00 - The four moves (infrastructure, soundbite, discourse, consistency) 12:00 - Why Team Emma on the three-hour mom take 14:00 - Why your audience won't do it 16:00 - The smaller version - and the book announcement 18:30 - Close + CTA Memorable quotes "The book is not the story. The book is the artifact." "Emma Grede let herself be misunderstood on purpose. She held an opinion strong enough to travel. That is the trade." "I am tired of people telling mothers how to do anything." "The fight is the marketing. The conversation is the distribution. Emma Grede understood that her job was not to win the debate. Her job was to be the debate." "I'm not waiting until I have a deal to tell you this. The visibility of the search is part of the strategy." Resources mentioned The free AI Visibility Audit. The Cost of Building in Private (And Why AI Won't Recommend You)

About this episode If you've ever called yourself "the best-kept secret" in your industry and felt a little proud of it - this episode is the reframe you've been avoiding. Monique Bryan unpacks why building in private has quietly become a positioning liability, especially now that AI tools like ChatGPT, Perplexity, and Google's AI overviews are deciding who gets recommended based on public-facing authority signals. If you don't have a paper trail, you're not in the answer. This is not a content-strategy episode. This is an authority-strategy episode. The takeaway is sharper, smaller, and harder to ignore: you don't need to post more. You need to exist more. What you'll learn Why "best-kept secret" is a visibility problem dressed up as a virtue The three real costs of building in private: referrals, AI recommendations, and positioning How AI discovery works in 2026, and what authority signals actually feed it Why fixing your Discovery layer (SEO, content, ads) doesn't work when the breakdown is at Presence and Association The Authority Stack framework, explained in under a minute Three concrete re-entry moves to close the gap in 30 days - one room, one asset, one conversation Chapters 00:00 - Cold open: building in private isn't a strategy, it's a hiding spot 01:30 - The "best-kept secret" trap 05:00 - Why we hide: polish, perfectionism, and ADHD 09:00 - The three real costs: referrals, AI, and positioning 13:00 - What "building in public" actually means (it's not posting) 14:30 - The Authority Stack, explained 16:00 - Three moves to close the gap this month 18:30 - Close + the question worth sitting with Memorable quotes "Being the best-kept secret means the people who need you most don't know you exist. That's not humility. That's a visibility problem dressed up as a virtue." "Restraint wasn't discipline for me. It was decay." "AI doesn't know you're the best-kept secret. It just knows you're not there." "You don't need to post more. You need to exist more. Posting is output. Existing is positioning. One takes energy every day. The other compounds." "You can't claim a position nobody knows you hold." Resources mentioned The Visibility Audit - 10-minute diagnostic, no call. Reese Witherspoon, AI Backlash & The Authority Gap No One Is Talking About

What happens when a woman with influence tells other women to pay attention to AI? If you watched the backlash to Reese Witherspoon’s recent comments, you probably saw the headlines. What you didn’t see was the pattern underneath it. In this episode of Who Knows You?, Monique breaks down what Reese actually said, why the response unfolded the way it did, and what it reveals about how authority works today. This isn’t about defending a celebrity. It’s about understanding what happens when someone steps outside the lane they’ve been assigned and starts leading somewhere new. Because that same pattern is affecting founders, experts, and professionals every day. Inside this episode: What Reese Witherspoon actually said about women and AI Why the backlash focused on her instead of the data The “authority gap” and how it shows up in your business How AI is already deciding who gets recommended and who gets overlooked Why sitting out of this shift has real consequences for your visibility If you’ve ever felt like you’re better than how your brand is being perceived, this episode will show you why—and what’s changing underneath it. The reality is simple: discovery has shifted. People are no longer just searching—they’re asking AI who to trust, who to hire, and who to follow. And if your expertise isn’t clearly positioned, you won’t show up in those answers. Resources: Authority Leak Audit - Find out exactly where your positioning is breaking down and what to fix. [ACCESS IT HERE] [08:30] What to do next   Transcript: Welcome to Who Knows You, the podcast for experts and founders who are done blending in. Here we talk about authority, AI discovery, and what it really takes to become the go-to in your space. Not just to the people in the room, but to the systems now deciding who gets recommended. I'm Monique Brian. Let's get into it. What's up? What's up, everybody? All right, so I want to talk to you about a call I had recently. I've been doing a lot of reconnecting lately, reaching out to people from my past, people in my audience, letting everybody know where I'm at now because things have shifted. Hello, new podcast. So, some people have been asking me, Mon'nique, do you still do personal branding? And I tell them, brand and authority are at the DNA of everything that I do. I couldn't get away from it if I tried. That has not changed. What's changed is the way I get it out there. It's the chosen instrument called AI. So, the way you get to be out here on repeat while you're sleeping, AI makes that possible. And the way people experience you when you're not in the room is has always been something that I have preached from the hilltops. Now, I'm talking more about visibility in a different way, right? And that way is called AEO, answer engine optimization. So how you're being discovered and being recommended by the systems out here, the AI machines, not just people. That's my new everything because with the time when the times be changing, you change with the times. So visibility is still the goal. It's just wearing a different outfit. So I'm on this call and I could tell pretty quickly that this person was using AI, but like very surface level and a few things like they were doing a few things with Claude here and there and I'm thinking well okay let me share what I've been doing let me show them how I've been helping people build assets that live beyond them that sort of thing so things that can work without you having to be in the room like how do you make these amazing client experiences and as I'm describing it I could feel like the resistance coming up she kept kind of like pushing back a little a little bit and then I then she said something that like totally floored me. She said, "Well, we should probably just wait and see. AI might be a fad and I was like, "What?" Oh, sorry. I was like, "What is going on?" I'm still in shock. So, I almost fell off my chair. So, I'm sure if you went back and like we watched the discovery call, like my face said everything that I didn't say like verbally on the call. So, here's Here's what I want you to know. I am not in the business of convincing anyone. And that's okay. We all are at different places. We are all at different levels of adoption. And wherever you are at on that curve, you are. And there's no shade in any of that. I'm not here to drag anybody one way or the other. But but but if you are still listening to this episode right now, you already know You know, things have shifted and maybe you don't know exactly where it's all going, like none of us do. It's moving way too fast to be definitive in where this is going to land. But you can feel the change in the direction. And here's what history has tells us about the change of the direction. Every single time a technology came along that could save people money and time and replace any form of labor, We eventually all got on board. Some got on board quickly, some got on board way down the line, but it happens every single time. The printing press, electricity, the telephone, the internet, email, the smartphone. Nobody looks back and calls those fads. Because here's how human beings actually work. We resist. We then we debate. We wait. And we see and then then we realize it saves us time and makes us money then we adopt it every time without exception. AI is not different. The only variable is when you get in and this isn't about being an early adopter for the sake of it. It's not about having the latest tools or building the most complicated system. It's about understanding that AI is already in the room. It's already being asked who to recommend. It's already forming an opinion about who you are and what you do based on whatever signal you have out here online. Whether you like it or not, that's exactly who this show is for. So, the question isn't is AI here to stay? The question is When AI is asked about you, what does it say? Boom. That's all I have to say about that, people. Oh my gosh, I almost knocked over my iPad, my my tripod, and the iPod, and and the freaking MacBook. That's it for today's episode of Who Knows You. If this hit close to home, your next app is the Authority Leak Audit. It's a free diagnostic that shows you exactly where your positioning is breaking down and what to fix. 8. AI Is Deciding Who Gets Recommended. Are You Even In the Running?

AI Is Deciding Who Gets Recommended. Are You Even In the Running?

In this episode, Monique breaks down the positioning gap that’s causing highly skilled experts to disappear from recommendations made by ChatGPT, Perplexity, and other AI tools. Because if your positioning isn’t clear and consistent across every place you show up… You don’t just get overlooked. You get averaged out. This is a conversation about visibility in a world where decisions are being made by systems that don’t know you, don’t follow you, and don’t try to figure you out. They scan. They summarize. They decide. If you want to be recommended, referred, and chosen… Clarity is no longer optional. Key Moments 00:00 — The truth about AI recommendations AI doesn’t pick the best person. It picks the clearest one. 00:32 — What “getting averaged out” actually means How unclear positioning turns you into a generic answer. 01:15 — Why smart experts are losing right now It’s not lack of skill. It’s lack of clarity in how they’re understood. 02:05 — AI doesn’t think. It aggregates How your website, content, and language get compiled into a single identity. 03:10 — The blending problem Why you don’t stand out… you get merged into the middle. 04:05 — The Authority Leak Audit (real example) Monique breaks down her own scores across 5 positioning layers. 05:00 — The consistency gap How saying things differently across platforms creates confusion for AI. 06:10 — “Multiple versions of you” problem Why inconsistency makes you impossible to confidently recommend. 07:05 — Why this matters now more than ever AI is becoming the first stop for decision-making. 08:00 — Invisible in conversations you’re not in How you’re being filtered out without even knowing it. 08:50 — The real fix This isn’t about doing more. It’s about being understood. 09:30 — Final takeaway Generic is invisible. Clarity gets you chosen.   Next Step If this hit, your next step is the Authority Leak Audit. It will show you exactly: where your positioning is unclear where you're losing visibility and what to fix first 🔗 Link your audit   Stay Connected If this conversation hit, you’ll want to stay in the room: https://www.instagram.com/moniquebryan_co/ https://www.linkedin.com/in/moniquebryan/ https://www.moniquebryan.com/ Who Knows You is hosted by Monique Bryan, brand authority strategist and built for founders, operators, and experts who are doing real work and ready to be picked for it.   Take the AI Visibility Audit to find out where your positioning is breaking down and what to fix: [RUN YOUR AUDIT]   Connect with Monique: Before we build, let us talk.  https://moniquebryan.com/book/  -    Website: moniquebryan.com  LinkedIn: Monique Bryan  Instagram: @moniquebryan
