R U OK because ... pt. 2 | How to talk about mental health and support others

Yes... this is two episodes in the one day! Following on from looking at our own mental health and thought patterns, I wanted to pivot into how to talk about mental health in general! Again, shout out to Mitch Wallis for sharing his journey, tools and for encouraging us to engage in this conversation. Let's normalise mental health talk so that we can better support each other and ourselves. In part 2, we look at some approaches and tactics to be a better supporter and listener. It's hard but listening is KEY when it comes to showing care and making others feel understood... which is all we really want, right? ANYWAY, listening caps on - it's time to practice those listening skills. Song of the Week: Wait! - Fiji Blue As always, if you have any feedback or questions, make sure to head over to our insta - I'd love to hear what you have to say!

Check out his website and socials for more solid content !! Can you believe work invested in something like this!? In part 1, we delve into our own mental health, how to strengthen and explore it. Get that journal out, or at least your thinking cap, and the ready to dig into the depths your mind! We're talking about how to cope better and reframe those negative stories we tell ourselves! Languishing...?

The sun is up, the doors are closed and Joyce hasn't worn anything but pyjamas for the past two weeks - yes, we're in lockdown! While sliding back into solitude, the feeling of indifference and apathy started to boil so when this word popped up, Joyce felt the need to share it with the whole world. HELLO, I'M JOYCE AND I'M LANGUISHING. Goodbye, and you're welcome. Good Ol' Imposter Syndrome

Oop... as expected, work snowballed and here we are in May (let's hear it for re-committing to things you're passionate about or give you a sense of fulfilment). The room is no longer temporary and many other things have changed, but one thing that hasn't is the experience of imposter syndrome when joining new environments, so that's what Joyce will be talking about today! Get ready for short, clumsy yet practical summary of what imposter syndrome is and how to be more aware of it so that you'll be ready for it when it comes. Key Takeaways (2020/Perth Version)

My, my how time flies! Within the span of a few weeks Joyce has managed to move back to Sydney, start a new job and redecorate her new (and temporary) room. Amidst all that, she also took the liberty to reflect on her time back home so today's ep will be all about the six key lessons she picked up during that time. Hope there's something that resonates with you or something you can takeaway! A Year of Injuries and Other Misfortunes

A very rushed episode to match the chaos in Joyce's life right now and the mess of 2020. Listen in as she reflects back on her year of injuries and has a little laugh about the stupid stations she's gotten herself into. As always, if you have any feedback or questions, make sure to head over to our insta - I'd love to hear what you have to say!

Dealing with Loneliness

We've got a long episode today on A Makeshift Plan, but prep your ears as Joyce lays down her thoughts on loneliness and how she is dealing with it. Life is tough, especially when you're feeling lonely and disconnected (and even more so thanks to COVID), but that's why we're sharing some steps in learning to overcome this soul-sucking feeling. There's no guarantee that it'll fully disappear but there is hope that it'll become easier. If you're feeling lonely today, I'm here for you (!!!) so come have a chat and we can rant about life together! Today's a bit of a preachy one - hopefully someone gets something out of it, but we'll go back to stupid stories next week! Song of the Week: invisible string - Taylor Swift As always, if you have any feedback or questions, make sure to head over to our insta - I'd love to hear what you have to say!

Friends - What Would I Do Without Them!?

Today's episode of A Makeshift Plan is all about friends! More specifically, Joyce talks about the importance of her friendships, overshares her appreciation for them and touches on the keys to sustaining those quality connections over the long term. A bit of a selfish episode, but this is what happens when you start to surround yourself with the right people! If you're feeling lonely today and/or not up for today's ep, come chat with me on insta and we can be friends. *Note*: life is all about balance as well so next week's episode will be about embracing time alone and navigating an over-reliance on others. Song of the Week: Lovers Rock - TV Girl As always, if you have any feedback or questions, make sure to head over to our insta - I'd love to hear what you have to say!

A Case for Anime

Today Joyce talks about her new-found love for anime. A short and sweet episode about why she has come to appreciate cartoons so much, why you should give anime a chance, a rambling about her favourite genre, Slice of Life, and some of her recent favourite shows! Don't @ her, she's still learning. Anime Recommendations include: Nichijou, Haikyuu, My Hero Academia, RE:Life, Mob Psycho 100, Saiki K. HELP! I don't know what I'm doing!

In today's episode of A Makeshift Plan, Joyce jumps straight into the deep end to talk about the terrifying feelings of uncertainty and self-doubt. She touches on the implications of perfectionism and the stresses of making big (and not so big) decisions, while making peace with things being 'good enough' (i.e. this podcast - hah!). If you have any feedback or questions, make sure to head over to our insta - I'd love to hear what you have to say! Song of the Week: Read My Mind - The Killers
