Talking to Enrique Enriquez Listening to Birds

"Enrique Enriquez was born in Caracas and has lived in New York for twenty-six years, where he listens to the birds and publishes small books no one asked for." That's his bio, in his words. If you're listening to this before Thursday, August 20th, 2026, and you live in Los Angeles, there are a few tickets left to catch Enrique Enriquez's talk, "How to Enter the Garden," at PRS: https://www.eventbrite.com/e/how-to-enter-the-garden-a-talk-by-enrique-enriquez-tickets-1990044876797 We spoke for just over an hour. It's a conversation I suspect will haunt me for a long time — if not forever. Support the Podcast & Learn Astrology! Ready to take a deep dive into astrology? The Bodhi Tree Years: Gary Lachman on Punk, Philosophy & the New Age

This episode’s guest is the musician and author Gary Lachman. That is a vast understatement for someone who has been inducted into the Rock n’ Roll Hall of Fame as a founding member of Blondie and, has, in a separate career, published over 25+ books on consciousness, the occult and the western esoteric traditions. I first approached Gary to discuss his book Dreaming Ahead of Time, a work that has had a profound impact on me, in both my waking and dreaming life. In the time between that first request and our interview, the focus shifted. If you’re a regular listener of this podcast, you might have noticed that the city of Los Angeles, my adopted home, its people, and its stories have been surfacing throughout these most recent episodes — specifically the episodes with Ronnie Pontiac and Edward O. One of the places that has stepped into view is the Bodhi Tree, a metaphysical bookstore that was a hub for the New Age movement in Los Angeles from its opening in 1970 to its closure in 2012— its legacy still reverberates through many great thinkers of this city. For years, Gary was at the center of this scene. He talks about his time at the Bodhi Tree Bookstore in his memoir, Touched by the Presence. This was the spark for our discussion — but, as conversations do, this one took on a life of its own. Support the Podcast & Learn Astrology! Ready to take a deep dive into astrology? If Indra's Net Were a Hammock: On North Star Campout with Hawk

This episode’s guest is Hawk, a human who needs only one name because they're that brilliant and magical. They, along with Josh Proto and Dira Osland, are the organizers behind North Star Camp Out — a multiday gathering of astrologers and magicians taking place on farmland in the Pacific Northwest at the end of this month —  which is aug in the year of 2026. Honestly, I don't need to make a pitch. It's one of those "if you build it, they will come" situations. For the record, I have been called. I am coming. And I am very much looking forward to spending a weekend in the woods with some of my favorite minds. Apprentice to Manly P. Hall: Ronnie Pontiac on His Life Inside the Philosophical Research Society

Author and musician Ronnie Pontiac joins me to talk about the seven years he and his wife, Tamra Lucid, spent working under Manly P. Hall at the Philosophical Research Society — the Los Feliz institution that's now home to my monthly Los Angeles Astrology Salon. Tamra's 2021 memoir, Making the Ordinary Extraordinary: My Seven Years in Occult Los Angeles with Manly Palmer Hall, runs throughout our conversation. Content warning: sexual assault and extreme violence come up in this talk. A note: Ronnie and I had spoken before recording, so when my questions sound abrupt, I'm often calling back to an earlier conversation. The most vulnerable part of interviewing, for me, is being okay with sounding like a dumb-dumb — because what matters most is driving the talk. And this is one I'm really proud of. Telemundo's Astrologer: The 12 Hearts of Edward O

While many astrologers dream of being on television, Edward O stumbled into the spotlight while trying to get his brother — a doctor, newly arrived in the US — airtime on local TV stations. Over the next few years he'd take on one TV astrology role after another, working a series of day jobs and spending his nights poring over astrology books at the famed Bodhi Tree Bookstore in West Hollywood. In 2005 all that reading found an international audience: he was hired as cohost and astrologer for 12 Corazones, Telemundo's astrological dating show. For a decade he was on a mission to show the world astrology is about more than sun signs — pulling, by his own estimate, some 41,000 charts along the way and creating a signature style of reading that expanded beyond astrology to include palmistry and graphology. I knew none of this until Edward O reached out to me after attending the LA Astro Fest Kick-Off party. Fate works in mysterious ways indeed. Edward O recently joined me to TALKTALKTALK an astrological life well lived, where we explore all sorts of terrain — ghosts, ancestry, relationship astrology, Shakira and the Royal Family. Born in Managua, he emigrated to Glendale at twelve and came to astrology sideways — working in the medical field by day, haunting the astrology section of the Bodhi Tree by night, with the rest of his education supplied by dating and long-term relationships. He studied with Zip Dobyns and Marion March and spent time at the Philosophical Research Society, and holds a BA in Latin American Studies, an MA in Spiritual Psychology from USM, and a clinical hypnotherapy certification from HMI. His television career spans four decades, beginning with an astrotherapy segment he pitched to a morning news program and expanding to networks across the U.S. and abroad. For ten years he co-hosted Telemundo's 12 Corazones, casting roughly 41,000 quick charts and teaching a mass audience to care about the ascendant, Moon, Venus, and Mars. Astro Catherine TALKTALKTALKS the Ethics of Prediction

This week’s TALKTALKTALK is with the astrologer and author Catherine Urban, whom I had the terrific fortune of meeting in person years ago at the now-defunct Great Lakes Astrology Conference, aka GLAC. That was also the weekend I met Gemini Brett and Gary Caton — all three astrologers have inspired me ever since. It was also the weekend my then-boyfriend moved me out of his house — under an eclipse, naturally. Let that be a lesson in the power of the dragon’s den as a magical, fated portal. The conversation you’re about to hear was recorded over two months ago, which is why some of the news items sound dated. Our talk is centered around the ethics of prediction in astrology. Here, I must offer both gratitude to Catherine for her patience as I worked through my thoughts and an apology for coming off forceful at times. For her part, Catherine gracefully handles my concerns while offering sage advice for practitioners and a mini-lesson in the history of astrology. This topic of prediction is one I’d been chewing on for a while, and would continue to chew on after this conversation. Thankfully, I’ve mostly been able to clear it out of my system after a clarifying interview with Dr. Ali A Olomi. Since Recording When I approached Catherine, I had no idea she would be giving the keynote lecture at NORWAC a few weeks later on the very same topic! If you missed it, Prediction: Life or Death is now available for purchase on her website. Support the Podcast & Learn Astrology! Ready to take a deep dive into astrology? At the Pace of the Planets with Cameron Allen

This episode features Cameron Allen, who came all the way from Memphis to speak at this year's LA Astro Fest. This recording was supposed to come out before his workshop, but that was just not happening. It turns out that throwing a four-day festival with nothing but blood, sweat, tears, and the good graces of volunteers is a lot. No matter, we did it. The episode is here. If this is your first encounter with Cameron, he's an herbalist and astrologer who sits at the crossroads of medical, traditional, and evolutionary astrology. He's someone I've admired for a very long time. Years ago, when I was too afraid to record podcasts, I hosted a lot of TalkTalkTalks over IG Live. These are absurd hour-plus conversations that should be podcasts. Cameron Allen was indeed one of these IG guests, along with Samuel Reynolds and Gemini Brett, all astrologers who I'm honored to say have been speakers at LA Astro Fest. If you're in the mood for scrolling, you can go way back in the Vivi Henriette IG history and find these interviews. One day I will make them podcast episodes for Club Astro members. In the meantime, you can head over to Art of the Zodiac on Substack and read the bonus print interview that accompanies this podcast> A quick note on this recording: I have no idea why I'm so entranced by the idea of a "spirit supply store." While Cam was talking, I had this image of ghosts walking into the shop and buying ghost accessories. The tools they need to haunt houses and whatnot. In my head, it was a world. On the recording, I sound like I've never heard of a botánica. Oof! The best part of interviews is I get to sound like an idiot as long as my guest sounds good. Cameron, per usual, sounds brilliant! This was such a delightful conversation. XO Vivi Support the Podcast & Learn Astrology! Ready to take a deep dive into astrology? The Magic of Naha Armády and 22 Teachings

For anyone in Los Angeles who moves in occult or occult-adjacent circles, the name 22 Teachings is certainly familiar. It's the School of Hermetic Science and Magical Arts, founded by Naha Armády.  When I reached out to her for an interview, I was nervous. This is someone whose work, by way of her disciples, I had come to admire. To my surprise, she was unreasonably gracious, inviting me into her home for conversation, where we talked about a lot of things—but, mostly, what it means to be a magician.  Naha is more kind and brilliant than the vast reputation that precedes her. Which is why I’m all sorts of excited to share that she is a speaker at the upcoming LA Astro Fest, happening June 23rd-28th in Los Angeles, along with a roster of my favorite astrologers and storytellers including Blair Bogin of Planets, Planets, Planets, Michelle Tea, Gemini Brett & more!  Tickets are now on sale for this intimate gathering, and if you've read this far, lucky you!
