Virginia Carnesale, founder and CEO of Stage, is a breast cancer survivor, wellness enthusiast, and information activist who is on a mission to create a community and shopping destination around breast cancer. During Virginia’s journey battling Stage II  breast cancer, which included chemotherapy, radiation, and multiple surgeries, she was shocked to realize that the breast cancer conversation only happened every October.

Virginia’s cancer journey was a turning point that gave her a new purpose and opened her mind and heart to the possibility of using her extensive experience in areas of retail management, marketing, merchandising, and e-commerce to help other women navigate through their own cancer journey. She wanted to pay it forward to women who may lack access to information and support and made it her mission to provide knowledge, community, a sense of levity, headscarves – and everything in between. Post-treatment, Virginia brought Stage to life in February 2022 – to see the modern woman through this uniquely personal journey.

EP 159-Straight Talk with Dr. Edo McGee

    Bustin' Out of Breast Cancer
New Episodes are released Wednesdays at 7:00 am EST
EP 159-Straight Talk with Dr. Edo McGee-Pharmacist, Mindset Coach, Thriver, and Founder of S.E.W. Wellness

Dr. Edo McGee is a 5-year breast cancer Thriver and the CEO/Founder of S.E.W. Wellness. They serve breast cancer patients from the start of diagnosis and beyond through survivorship to support, and empower them to prioritize their mental health as a critical part of overall wellness during their recovery journey.

Dr. McGee talks about how she went from a high achieving pharmacist/educator to diagnosed with breast cancer in 2017 at 33 with a 3 yr old. She followed her treatment from starting chemo to surgery but the whole time after hearing her diagnosis she had become depressed, anxious, and hopeless. While unpacking the mental aftermath of the diagnosis with a licensed therapist, she discovered that the missing link to her recovery was mental wellness. The transformation came when she discovered the role of a certified peer mental health specialist that used a wellness recovery framework. She realized how much it helped her so she became certified herself. Now she can help young high achievers, diagnosed with breast cancer, to identify their goals, hopes, and dreams with the help of a mindset breast cancer coach.

There are several options to choose from at SEW Wellness including group coaching virtually by partnering with cancer institutions to serve as a wellness program for patients receiving treatment and beyond, cancer care packages for family members and friends looking to support a survivor during treatment; and FREE 10-day mental health wellness challenges.

    Important topics in this episode:

    ● The importance of recognizing your mental health and well being after a breast cancer diagnosis, during and after
    ● How early detection saved her
    ● How she became depressed, anxious and felt helpless after her diagnosis
