    The #1 Story Formula You Can Use For Anything Have you ever heard a story that really got your attention and kept you totally captivated for anywhere from a couple of minutes to a couple of hours? Have you ever read a book that you just couldn’t put down until you finished it? Is there a movie you love, and you keep watching over and over again? And have you ever heard a sales story so compelling that you had to buy that product even though you weren’t sure you even needed it?     The Value Ladder Your Value Ladder mission statement (VLMS)

    Whenever I start a new company or start working with someone on their business, the first thing I always do is map out the customer’s value ladder. It helps to give you a vision of how you plan on serving your dream customers and where you want to take them. It helps you figure out the real purpose for your company: the main goal or result that you are trying to help them achieve. This starts with defining the result that your dream customer will be coming to you to achieve. I call this your “value ladder mission statement.” or VLMS, and I break it down like this. We help (insert who) to (insert result they want to achieve) through (insert your new opportunity). Who is the person you want to serve? We have talked a lot about your dream customers so far in this series. We build everything inside of this value ladder to attract and serve them. What is the result you can provide for your dream customer? What is it that they have been unsuccessfully trying to accomplish before entering your world that you know you can solve when you have a change to serve them? What is your new opportunity that you want to offer them? What is the offer that you are providing the that is different from the things they have tried in the past when attempting to achieve this same result? After you’ve defined that for your value ladder, everything you create will be moving people towards the next step. Every offer you create at each step of the value ladder will be helping to achieve that core goal.     Every day, as you’re scrolling through your Facebook newsfeed, checking your email, or searching to find something on Google, there are hundreds of business owners who are throwing out “hooks” with a goal to grab your attention long enough that they can tell you their story. The hook are the headlines, images, ad videos that we put in front of our dream customers wherever they are congregating, with a goal to capture their attention just long enough that we can tell them our story. I call these hooks “Enquirer Interrupts” Because they remined me of being at the grocery store and walking through the checkout stand, where one of the headlines from the tabloids grabs my attention. Your job online is almost the same. You are going to the busiest places online, where your dream customers are congregating and throwing out dozens of hooks, with a goal to capture the attention of those people, just long enough that you can tell them a story, and then make them a special offer. The hook doesn’t provide any value by itself, but it grabs attention for the story, and each story could have dozen of different hooks. Every story you put into the market has dozens of potential hooks that you could be throwing out. We never know which ones will grabs your market’s attention, so it’s important that we keep throwing out hooks until you find the ones that effectively hook your dream customer. Hook , Story, Offer. After you know who your dream customers is, and you’ve identified where they are congregating, this is the bait that will get them to come into your world so you can serve them and change their lives with the business that you’ve built. This leads us to the last step in the secret formula, which is the result What is the big result that you are trying to get from them?     We all have a story to tell or many stories that we need to tell. Those are the stories that we need to tell to get people to buy what you are selling. Your stories is what will bond you and your customers together. Your stories are what will make people relate to who you are and what you are selling to them. Most people think that telling stories are not important but if you do not tell your story how can they relate? The truth is they cannot. How can they trust that you know how they feel and what their needs are if you are not willing to tell your story that you were in the same position as they currently are. I know what you are thinking but I sell homes or an RV how does story telling make a difference. The answer is look at why are you selling those things and that is the story you want to share when you are showing people homes or that new RV. Do you remember the first home you bought or lived in? Do you remember the happy memories of a home that you lived in? Again that is a story you can share? Let’s look at selling RV’s do you have a camping story that makes you happy? Did you take an RV trip that brought joy to your life? These are all stories that you can share and they will bring you closer to your customers. How does the story telling build trust or bond you with your customers. The answer is simple it takes them on a journey from where they are now, that same place you were at the start of your story, to the place they want to be, that is where you currently on. Your story tells them that you have been in their shoes and you know how to take them to that place they want to be. When you get good at story telling you take each and every person who hears your story on a path that you went on and you give them hope that if you can achieve what you have achieved they can as well. You give them an “AHA” moment. You give them a reason to trust and believe. Take the time and write down your story to why you are doing what you are doing. Write as much detail, write down your struggles and write the end result and how that has changed your life. That is what your customer will buy. The product or service matters very little because if your customers cannot relate to the story and you they will never buy into your product or service. Write your story.     Hook, Story, Offer

    At this point in the secret formula, you should know exactly who you want to serve, and you should have started to identify the places that your dream customers are congregating online. Now it’s your job to create bait that will bring those dream customers into your world. The way we do that is through a framework that I call Hook, Story, Offer. Every step in your business should have a hook, story and an offer. The ads you place online, the emails you send, the landing pages your create, as well as any upsells, webinars, or phone calls you make, will all have a hook, a story, and an offer. If something isn’t working in your business, it’s always either the hook, the story, or the offer. This framework is the key to your success online, so I want to dive deeper into how to create hooks that will grab your dream customers, how to tell stories to increase the value of your offer, and how to create and present an offer in a way that people have to say yes, Even though it’s called Hook, Story, Offer, I want to actually start with the offer first. After we talk about how we create an irresistible offer, then we’ll talk about how to craft a story that will increase the value of that offer, and lastly we’ll talk about the hooks we will create to grab someone’s attention long enough that they will listen to your story. Your Irresistible Offer If you’re following this series, then you likely already have a product or a service that you are selling or would like to sell online and you want to figure out how you can sell a lot more. If you don’t have a business yet, and are trying to figure out what you should sell to be successful online, then these are the three core categories that almost every business online falls into: You’re selling a physical products: This could be anything from supplements to flashlights to TV’s or more. Any type of physical product that you would ship out to someone after they order. You’re selling an information product: These are my authors, speakers, coaches or consultants (or affiliates selling these products for others). These products often include digital courses, membership sites, live events and training.     Question #4: What is the unique result or value that you can create for your dream customer?

    Once you’ve hooked your dream customer with the perfect offer, the last question is what result or value do you want to give them? We are not talking about what product or service you want to sell them. A business is not about product or services. A business is about what result you can get for your clients. Once you (and they) understand that concept, the price is no longer a barrier. You need to understand that many of your customers may not be able to pay for your top level service (which is why you should develop other products or services), but understanding where you ultimately want to take the dream customer is the key to this step. Take a moment to imagine that your dream client could pay you anything to get a desired result. What, then, would you do to help guarantee their success? Where would you lead them? What does that place look like? Keep that place in your mind; it’s the pinnacle of success for your clients. It’s where you want to take them. The framework for this step of the secret formula is called “the value ladder.” It will be broken down in greater detail later in the series and I will show you how to ascend your customers so you can make more money and they can receive more value. That’s it. The four questions to the secret formula, again, are as follows; Who is your dream customer? Where are they congregating? What is the bait that you can use to attract them to you?     Once you know where your dream customer are, you have to create the right hook to grab their attention. The hooks are the ads that will grab the attention of your dream customers just long enough for you to tell them a story. The goal of the story is to build rapport with them as well as break the false beliefs they have that would keep them from taking you up on your offer. The offer is the thing you’ve created for your dream customer so you can give them the results they desire. If you do this step correctly, it will repel the customers you don’t want to serve and attract the right customers to you. So you need to crate the offer that will attract your dream customer. You know the two customers we created in the last part of this series, Remember mine were Jessica and Brodie. When you figure out what your dream clients want, it becomes very easy to attract them. Through out this series we are going to talk more about creating the right offer. But for now, just realize the offer has to match what your dream customer wants. Because this step in the formula has its own framework (called “Hook, Story, and Offer”). We will dive deeper into that later in the series.     Question #2: Where are your dream customers congregating? The second question in this secret formula is where can you find your dream customer? Where are they already congregating online? The greatest power of the internet is the power of congregations. Groups of people gathering in little corners of the internet make it possible for people like you and me to get into business quickly ad be successful without all the barriers and expensive hurdles of traditional media. When you hear the word congregation, what’s the first thing that pops into your head? For most people, the word congregation brings to mind a church. A church is really nothing more than a group of people who gather based on similar interest. If you were selling a perfect product to someone who attends church than you would find your dream customer there in one place. All you’d have to do is put your message out in front of them, and if you made a good offer, some of them would buy. I want to stop here before this analogy goes any deeper, because my point is not to teach you how to sell things to churches. I just want you to understand the power of a congregation because it’s one of the main reason the internet is such an amazing tool for business. Remember prior to the internet it was hard for people around the world to congregate. We were limited by location and ability to communicate. But now it’s possible for anyone and everyone to congregate and discuss almost anything with groups of people who have similar interest. There are congregations online for everything you can dream up. What are the online congregation that you participate in? My guess is there are at least a dozen or more things that you’re interested in, and you have a special place on the internet to go be with your people and talk about what’s important to you. I want you to now start thinking about congregations as they relate back to your dream customer. What are the congregations that they are already participating in? Start asking yourself these questions: What are the top websites that your dream customer already go to? What forums or message boards do they participate in? Where are the Facebook groups they participate in? Who are the influencers they follow on Facebook and Instagram? What podcast do they listen to? What are the email newsletters they are subscribed to? What blogs do they read? What channels are they following on YouTube? What keywords are they searching for in Google to find information? Once you understand the core concept of congregations, driving traffic becomes incredibly easy. My job as a marketer is to figure out who it is You want to serve, and then figure out where they are already congregating. So go and find where your clients are congregating!!
