Gregorian Rant

This is awesome content, but there are a lot of typos/capitalization errors in the titles and descriptions. I know that’s very unimportant, but I just think it might be good to fix.

An unfortunate throwback to 60’s and 70’s Catholicism. Chock full with the same irreverence and disdain for Tradition.

Gregorian Rant is a window into the discussions between Fr. Brian Larkin (FBL) and his friend and disciple, Patrick. FBL has an eloquence and polish that reminds me of Bishop Barron, but with more of a pastoral focus than a professorial one. FBL comes off like a guy who was very popular in high school, which is probably why his brother Companions on the Catholic Stuff You Should Know podcast love to rag on him so much. Patrick is an honest truth seeker who knows he has found the “pearl of great price” in his relationship with Jesus that has been revealed to him through his Catholic faith, his friendship with FBL, and his marriage to his wife. However, his faith is still nascent and he is actively trying to learn more. FBL & Patrick’s discussions are personable, rich, and enjoyable. I’ve found myself consistently choosing to listen to this podcast when I have the opportunity. Thanks for producing it!

A year ago I hit a rough patch career wise (Feb. 2020). Thankfully, it was a dark night of the soul moment (St. John of the Cross reference) that has stoked a deepening journey of faith. Bishop Barron and disciples from other podcasts (Bible in a Year, Catholic Answers, Word on Fire, Jeff Cavins, Catholic Man Show, Mike Schmitz, Catholic Stuff You Should Know, Every Knee Shall Bow, Catholic Gentleman) have been fruitful food for the journey. One of those podcasts mentioned Gregorian Rant, and this podcast quickly became a favorite of mine. Despite being a cradle Catholic (with patches of light and darkness) there is much I do not know about my faith. Patrick and Father Larkin provide an approachable and relatable dialogue. Father Larkin pulls from his 10 years of priesthood and the gift of naturally recalling and inserting scripture, all the while presented in a humble and inviting manner. Patrick’s reconversion story (cradle Catholic to secular success seeker to dark night to reawakening to renewal 2 years ago) provides the perfect fodder for their conversation. The evident friendship between the two provides a safe space for comfortable questioning - as Father Larkin puts it, you need the welcoming relationship first in order to be open to understanding foundational church teachings that go against current secular beliefs.
