Ep 41. New Year, Same You

In the new year, we always seem to hear the phrase New Year, New You.

The new year is all about reinventing ourselves and setting aside who we are right now to become something even better.

And although I do believe that personal growth and development and continually becoming something better than we were yesterday is a hugely important part of life, I believe it’s also important to love and accept ourselves along the way.

So what if this year, we started out by deciding to really get to know ourselves and accept ourselves and love ourselves for everything we are–our strengths and our weaknesses, our good parts and our no-so-good parts.

Do you really know yourself?  And do you really accept yourself for exactly who you are? If you’re not sure, listen to this episode and hopefully become inspired to look at yourself a little differently this year!

Ep 39. Co-Parenting Through the Holidays

The holidays can be a stressful time for just about anyone, but if you’re a separated or divorced parent, adding that in on top of what you already have going on adds another level of stress. Now you have to navigate separate household schedules, extended family expectations, both parents wanting to spend as much time with your child as possible during this special time, along with all of the emotional stuff you still might be working through.

Holiday co-parenting can be so tough.  You are no longer married to your child’s other parent, yet you have to deal with them a lot, especially during the holidays. But the thing is, you and your child deserve a happy, low-stress holiday. So... in this episode, I talk about 5 tips that will help make your holiday co-parenting more healthy and less stressful for both you and your child.

Ep 38. The Greatness of Gratitude

Ep 38. The Greatness of Gratitude

Expressing (and receiving) gratitude has even greater benefits than you might have known.  Not only does it help us to create a more positive mental outlook, but it can enhance our physical and emotional health as well. There are so many studies that have been done about the benefits of gratitude, and I sum it all up for you here.

With this new knowledge of the greatness of gratitude and how it can benefit us in our daily lives, I hope we bring these lessons to our children so that they can reap the benefits of a better, more grateful life as well.  I also give you a couple simple ideas on how you can implement some easy gratitude practices with your family.

Ep 37. Children & Smartphones, Pt 2: Social Media

Ep 37. Children & Smartphones, Pt 2: Social Media

Being the first generation of mothers to parent the use of cell phones, we are just starting to learn the effects that social media is having on our children.  Cyberbullying is part of it, yes, but a much larger part of it is the endless scrolling as our children sit there and compare themselves to others all day long.  This simple act is causing our children's anxiety, depression, and suicidal thoughts to skyrocket.  In this episode, I give you a few things you can do to help lessen the effects of social media on your child.

Ep 36. Children & Smartphones Pt. 1: Contracts

Ep 36. Children & Smartphones Pt. 1: Contracts

Have you ever thought about the fact that we are the first generation of parents to ever parent the use of cell phones?  I think that deserves a badge of honor!

In this episode, we talk about using cell phone contracts with our children.  This is something you might want to consider if you don't already have one in place.  Just like everything else in life we are expected to teach our children, the use of smartphones is no different.  Your child will not automatically know how to use their phone safely and responsibly.  You must teach them.  It's important to think through how you want their smartphone usage to look and make sure it is communicated to your child in a clear way and reviewed often.  I believe a contract is the best way to do this.

Amazing advice for moms!

I have benefited so much from listening to The Mommy Whisperer podcast! I started practicing the “3 C’s” with my kids, which has helped me feel like a better mom. I realized that I had not been setting clear expectations or being consistent, so my kids were driving me crazy. Now things are running a lot more smoothly! I especially loved Heather’s advice from the “I’m Bored Solution” episode, which has been a lifesaver for these long summer days!

Love this podcast!

Each episode I’ve listened to has had me nodding my head yes. I found this at exactly the right time. Heather really gets it as a mom and has great examples and is very clear at explaining what to do and how to do it. She’s also super encouraging when I can be hard on myself! I’m feeling better about taking some new steps on my parenting journey. My kids are 8 and 6 and I’ve learned I haven’t been doing the three c’s very well and it’s resulted in a lot of behavior issues, confusion and frustration in our family. It’s learning a new skill for me but I’m ready to try it!

Not just for moms!

Heather’s content is extremely useful and entertaining, and not just for moms. I’ve found several episodes that have valuable information for dad’s too. For anyone looking to improve family life, be a better parent, or just needing a few minutes of solid entertainment from a rational voice, this podcast is great!
