"Superman" brings nothing to the table | Movie Review by The Bluff Council

It's a bird! It's a plane! It's a movie with the weight of the future of the entire DCU and Warner Bros. filmography on its back! No small task... It's "Superman!" Directed by James Gunn and starring David Corenswet, Rachel Brosnahan, and Nicholas Hoult. Perhaps no film this year HAS to be as great as this one needs to be. Can it possibly live up to the challenge? No. No it can't. We're sorry to say. But let's at least talk about it. Spoilers begin at roughly the 7:00 mark, and some small spoilers may be contained in the text below. 00:00 - Intro / We're very important people AKA Amazon Prime subscribers 01:42 - What Keith thought 03:46 - What Ev thought 05:23 - This film fails to meet the massive expectations it kinda needed to meet 07:12 - "This movie is like a sequel to a movie that was never released" AKA you need to have at least something of a pre-existing relationship with this IP going in 09:08 - This film is too crowded with too many characters and too many conflicts 13:42 - The character development that is here is good, but there's not enough of it, particularly for Lois Lane 16:40 - Is this movie solely for diehard Superman fans? And if so... why? 19:53 - The kitschy tone of everything 24:10 - The Snyderverse wasn't exactly great but at least there were stakes 26:38 - Thank God that CGI dog was around to save the day every single time AKA will our hero ever win on his own? 31:17 - The film is very well cast with solid performances - Keith loves Nicholas Hoult as Lex Luthor, Ev loves David Corenswet as Clark Kent 34:37 - Edi Gathegi as Mr. Terrific is the best part 36:40 - Why do women love Jimmy Olsen so much and why is that so key to the plot of this film? 42:03 - Lois Lane flying the spaceship is stupid 44:56 - James Gunn knows better and has made better films before... Why do all the emotional moments here fall flat? 51:05 - Flashbacks to "Wonder Woman 1984" OH MY GOD NO 55:36 - Is this film going to make people excited for what's to come? "Happy Gilmore" is the best Adam Sandler movie POINT BLANK PERIOD | Movie Review by The Bluff Council

In the long and illustrious and meandering and uneven and hilarious career of Adam Sandler, "Happy Gilmore" stands out as a truly funny comedy classic, so much so that Netflix is dusting off the IP for a sequel, nearly thirty years later (yay...?). What makes this film so timeless? Where does it rank in Sandler's filmography? How is Shooter McGavin so incredible? How long can two grown men dissect one joke about sleeping with an elderly Asian woman? All of these questions and more will be shouted about ad nauseam in this brand new episode of The Bluff Council. CHOKE ON THAT, BABY. Note: There is a slight static/flicker that mysteriously appears at approximately the 20 minute mark; it only lasts for a minute or two. 00:00 - Intro / LET'S GET RIGHT INTO IT 01:30 - "Happy Gilmore" vs. "Billy Madison" 02:30 - We agree that this is Sandler's best 06:09 - Keith and Ev reflect on their first memories of watching "Happy Gilmore" 09:56 - Give Ben Stiller an Oscar for his work in this movie 10:52 - The importance of thoughtful character development, even (especially?) in "stupid comedies" 12:12 - Who is the funniest character? 13:11 - Christopher McDonald as Shooter McGavin is one of the great comedy performances of all time 17:46 - From the opening credits to the music choices, this film works to ground its world and connect you with its characters 20:22 - Happy isn't just funny, he's COOL, and that is vitally important 22:28 - All great comedies start with a solid dramatic premise 25:08 - Why was Julie Bowen walking alone in a slip on the 9th green at 9pm AKA LOCK DIDDY UP 26:20 - Shoutout to the Endless Love of the Zamboni driver 27:52 - Is the Bob Barker fight the most memorable scene? 29:19 - "You no want breakfast!?" is the funniest part of the movie, let us explain to you why in more detail than you could ever want 34:47 - CARL WEATHERS APPRECIATION 36:18 - We also love Kevin Nealon 36:58 - The very high highs and very low lows of Adam Sandler's wild career 43:46 - "Happy Gilmore 2" is going to be awful, we're sorry, better to ready yourself for it now 49:32 - Where does "Happy Gilmore" rank in comparison to other comedies of its time?
