The Rehabilitation Research and Training Center on Neurogenic Lower Urinary TractDysfunction (NLUTD) was launched in 2019 and includes a diverse team of physicians(rehabilitation, urology, pediatrics), researchers, and people with NLUTD (more commonlyknown as “neurogenic bladder”). We are located across the United States and have a passion to advance science, health care, and quality of life around this common condition. Our podcasts are for clinicians, scientists, non-scientists, adults, kids, and everyone in between. We cover a wide range of topics, from the basics of neurogenic bladder and its management, to being in a relationship and dating, social justice, and even how your bladder is like a snowflake! Journal Club: Urine is not sterile
Dr. Catherine Forster, a Pediatric Hospitalist and Researcher at the University of Pittsburgh, interviews Dr. Alan Wolfe, Microbiologist at Loyola University in Chicago about his work on the urinary microbiome, or urobiome. They discuss what the urobiome is, what research has been done to date looking at the urobiome, and future directions for this area of research.

Journal Article: Self-Reported Urological Hospitalizations or Emergency Room Visits in a Contemporary Spinal Cord Injury Cohort
Dr. Mandy Rounds, a Research Fellow at MedStar National Rehabilitation Hospital, interviews Dr. John Stoffel, Urologist at the University of Michigan and Neurogenic Bladder Research Group about the findings of his article “Self-Reported Urological Hospitalizations or Emergency Room Visits in a Contemporary Spinal Cord Injury Cohort”. They discuss the important take-aways that people with spinal cord injury can consider when seeking medical attention for urologic issues, as well as considerations for clinicians who encounter spinal cord injury patients that are hospitalized or visit the emergency room with urinary tract infections.

Journal Article: Safety, Feasibility, and Efficacy of Transcutaneous Tibial Nerve Stimulation in Acute Spinal Cord Injury Neurogenic Bladder
Dr. Mandy Rounds, a Research Fellow at MedStar National Rehabilitation Hospital, interviews Dr. Argy Stampas an Associate Professor in the Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation at McGovern Medical School at UTHealth and the Director of Spinal Cord Injury Medicine Research at TIRR Memorial Hermann about his article, “Safety, Feasibility, and Efficacy of Transcutaneous Tibial Nerve Stimulation in Acute Spinal Cord Injury Neurogenic Bladder: A Randomized Control Pilot Trial”. They discuss this type of tibial nerve stimulation intervention that has been used in other populations and how it is now being used to improve bladder function in those with neurogenic bladder.
