Monaco Weekly News by NEWS.MC - ep 102

This week, NEWS.MC TV brings you the latest updates from Monaco, as the Principality looks to the skies, embraces new financial technology and celebrates its rich cultural heritage. A rare partial solar eclipse drew crowds to vantage points around Monaco on August the 12th, with families and astronomy enthusiasts gathering to witness the first such event visible from the region in 27 years. Despite some challenging viewing conditions, the unusual celestial spectacle provided a memorable summer highlight. Monaco is also taking steps to bring its financial framework into the digital age. On August the 13th, the Principality unveiled draft legislation governing crypto-asset service providers, aiming to support innovation while strengthening financial security, compliance and anti-money laundering safeguards. A much deeper journey through history is underway at the Museum of Prehistoric Anthropology, where the exhibition From Toumaï to Sapiens explores seven million years of human evolution. Running until October the 15th, the interactive exhibition follows humanity's extraordinary journey from some of our earliest known ancestors to modern Homo sapiens. As Monaco's nightlife enters its busiest period of the summer, the Be Safe association continues working to make sure nights out end safely. More than 1,000 people a month use its free late-night shuttle services, which operate from Wednesday to Sunday between midnight and 5.30am across Monaco and neighbouring French communities. Rare archival material has also shed new light on the Hollywood career of Grace Kelly. The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences has opened up a selection of photographs, letters and production documents chronicling her rise to stardom, her collaboration with Alfred Hitchcock and her decision to leave the screen following her marriage to Prince Rainier III. Closer to home, Monaco's bathing waters are being carefully monitored throughout the summer. The Environment Department carries out weekly testing at the Principality's five supervised bathing areas, checking a range of physical and chemical indicators to ensure the water remains suitable for swimmers. The Museum of Old Monaco is also enjoying a strong return after reopening following an extensive renovation. The historic museum on the Rock has already welcomed more than 1,700 visitors from 40 countries, offering a glimpse into Monaco's traditions, heritage and everyday life through its collection of historic artworks and objects. The Principality then welcomed the finish of one of the Mediterranean's classic offshore races. Black Jack 100 claimed Line Honours in the 21st Palermo to Monte Carlo race, reaching Monaco on August the 20th after 47 hours and 27 minutes at sea. The 30.5-metre Maxi, skippered by Monaco's Tristan Le Brun, completed the challenging course from Sicily with an 18-strong crew. And this week, NEWS.MC TV is joined by Sebastien Dameno, Administrator of Les Grand Chais Monegasques, for an exclusive interview discussing the company, Monaco's wine and hospitality landscape, and the importance of quality and tradition in the Principality. Monaco Weekly News by NEWS.MC - ep 101

This week, NEWS.MC TV brings you the latest stories from Monaco, beginning with a spectacular new addition to the Principality’s sporting calendar. Family entertainment has also returned to Monaco as the Piedon Circus arrived in Fontvieille on August the 6th. Described as the world’s smallest circus, the sixth-generation family troupe has been touring France for more than a century. Led by William Piedon, just six performers deliver a 90-minute show combining acrobatics, animal acts and plenty of family fun. With the Vuelta a España’s Grand Départ now just days away, Monaco’s volunteer teams are preparing for one of the Principality’s biggest sporting events of the summer. On August the 6th, around 184 riders were confirmed for the opening individual time trial on August the 22nd, while volunteers received their final briefing ahead of taking up positions across 26 key locations around Monaco. Motoring has proved a major attraction at the Grimaldi Forum, where the summer exhibition Monaco and the Automobile from 1893 to the Present Day welcomed more than 40,000 visitors during July. The exhibition’s impressive collection of historic vehicles and archives, combined with immersive scenography, has attracted families and a new generation of young automotive enthusiasts, with organisers hoping to surpass 75,000 visitors before it closes. Monaco-based Venturi Group is also helping take the automobile beyond Earth. Through a partnership with California-based Astrolab, the company is contributing to NASA’s Artemis programme and the development of lunar exploration vehicles. Astrolab’s CLV-1 rover is designed to transport astronauts and scientific equipment across the Moon’s south pole, supporting ambitions for a sustained human presence on the lunar surface. Monaco celebrated one of its most important traditional religious festivals on August the 9th as Saint Roman’s Day brought music, faith and Monegasque heritage together. Festivities included a procession through Monaco-Ville accompanied by traditional music, followed by a Mass celebrated in the Monegasque language at the Cathedral and a procession to the Saint-Martin Gardens. Tourism has also remained resilient in Monaco despite a challenging international economic climate. Hotel occupancy in July remained broadly in line with the same period last year, with visitors from the United States continuing to represent the Principality’s largest international market, followed by France, the United Kingdom and Italy. The Principality is also reminding residents that blood donations remain essential, with demand continuing to exceed available supplies. Donations can be used for patients undergoing cancer treatment, accident victims, surgical procedures and women experiencing complications during childbirth. People aged between 18 and 70 can donate following a medical assessment designed to protect both donors and recipients. Meanwhile, a wildlife rescue centre supported by Her Serene Highness Princess Charlene is facing an unprecedented summer workload. Instinct Animal, based in Saint-Cézaire-sur-Siagne, has treated around 2,400 wild animals since the beginning of the year. The intense summer heat has placed particular pressure on the centre, with large numbers of injured and distressed swifts among the animals requiring care. This week, NEWS.MC TV is joined by Alessia Castelli, Founder and Editor-in-Chief of Monaco Woman Magazine. In an exclusive interview, she discusses the changing role of women in Monaco, the stories and personalities shaping the Principality, and her vision for creating a platform that celebrates the women making an impact both locally and internationally. Monaco Weekly News by NEWS.MC - ep 100

This week marks a special milestone as NEWS.MC TV celebrates its 100th episode. To mark the occasion, we bring you another round-up of the biggest stories from Monaco, beginning with a major signing for AS Monaco ahead of the new football season. AS Monaco completed the signing of French striker Matthis Abline on July the 30th, securing the 23-year-old on a five-year contract from Nantes. After contributing eight goals and seven assists last season, Abline arrives in the Principality in a deal reportedly worth between €25 million and €30 million, strengthening Monaco's attacking options ahead of the new campaign. Music filled the Cour d'Honneur of the Prince's Palace on July the 30th as the Monte-Carlo Philharmonic Orchestra continued its celebrated summer concert series. Conducted by Juraj Valčuha, the programme featured works by Bernstein, Sibelius and Prokofiev, while acclaimed Japanese violinist Sayaka Shoji captivated audiences with an outstanding performance of Sibelius's Violin Concerto on her 1729 Stradivarius. Monaco's commitment to animal welfare remains at the heart of the redevelopment of the Rainier III Zoo. Announced on July the 31st, the long-term project continues with the careful relocation of nearly 450 animals representing around 70 species, ensuring their wellbeing while work progresses on creating a modern conservation-focused facility. One of the biggest transfers of the summer has also been completed, with Maghnes Akliouche joining Paris Saint-Germain from AS Monaco. The reported €50 million deal follows months of negotiations, making the talented attacking midfielder the most expensive signing in Ligue 1 during the current transfer window. Conservation efforts extended far beyond the Principality on August the 1st as the Prince Albert II of Monaco Foundation awarded its prestigious Camp Monaco Prize. The $100,000 award will support research protecting the Greater Yellowstone ecosystem from the spread of invasive cheatgrass, continuing a scientific partnership inspired by the pioneering expeditions of Prince Albert I. Monaco joined commemorations on August the 3rd marking the European Day of Remembrance for the Roma and Sinti Holocaust. Representatives gathered at the former Auschwitz-Birkenau concentration camp to honour the thousands of Roma and Sinti victims murdered during the liquidation of the so-called "Gypsy Family Camp" in August 1944. Public safety has also been strengthened in the Principality with new regulations banning flares, Bengal lights and other open flames in entertainment venues. Introduced following the tragic nightclub fire in Crans-Montana, the measures reinforce Monaco's already rigorous fire safety standards for restaurants, clubs and live entertainment venues. Marine conservation returned to Monaco's waters on August the 4th as the ACCOBAMS Survey Initiative resumed its international research campaign. Scientists aboard the research vessel Song of the Whale are combining ship-based observations with aerial surveys to monitor whales, dolphins and other marine wildlife across the Mediterranean, updating data first collected during the landmark 2018 survey. And to celebrate this landmark broadcast, NEWS.MC TV's 100th guest is Seb Delanney, the internationally recognised automotive and lifestyle influencer. In an exclusive interview, Seb discusses his passion for performance cars, the evolution of digital content creation, and why Monaco continues to be one of the world's premier destinations for automotive culture.
