After narrowlyescaping serious injury from The Great Potato, on a lark, he co-authored a specscript for Star Trek with friend Judy Burns when they were college students. The story, "The Tholian Web," became one of the series’ most popularepisodes. And he did —adventures in surfing, learning and performing music, travel to exotic placesfor river rafting, the work as a rocket scientist. Along the way, he’s alwaysmet fascinating characters. He did write — essays (over 50 have been publishedso far). But it was the loss of Sarah, the love of his life, that caused Chetto write his first book of stories. Perfection. But more importantly, as timely and provocative as anything I’ve done in thelast six years. More forceful. Required attendance if you all were in school. Idid take five pages of notes. Dr Nasir is wondrously caring, eloquent, brilliant, and honest. A former optical engineer. A stint in the Peace Corps. Aplastic surgeon. An extraordinary thinker. The notion of writing a dystopiannovel came to him in a flash. I know the feeling. Great chemistry with us. Hewrote ‘The Last Surgeon: A Dystopian Novel.” It’s unsettling. AI beginsdiagnosing disease, replaces nurses, and performs operations better thanhumans. Machines aren't bad or cruel, just better than us humans. A beautifullywritten novel. Scared me. And I’ve been immersed in AI stuff for years. Itstarted bothering me in 1956 (read my LinkedIn Newsletter). Now, some words andthoughts (from my notes) to entice. Not a writer. It just came out quickly.Advice. If you don’t know what to do, ask if it’s your son, mother, or father.Do no harm. Younger people accept machines more easily. Marcus Aurelius. PinkPanther. What happens when the better surgeon is no longer human? AI that failsor AI that succeeds beyond our expectations. Both are bad. Clinical Preflight.A brave new world is here.
