    Heaven's Gate

The final episode in the pilot season of the Very Eerie, Extremely Wicked, and Quite Spooky podcast. This season has been all about the perplexing world of cults and how they may start off as welcoming communes that bring peace but eventually turn into something more sinister or vile. Unlike the previous cults we have discussed, Heaven’s Gate falls on to a different spectrum. It didn’t have scandals or allegations of abuse that led to its downfall. It didn’t have a siege or was claiming to be something it was not. Heaven’s Gate was an American UFO religious cult that believed they would be taken to a extra terrestrial spacecraft when they received a ‘sign’. That ‘sign’ came in 1997 when Comet Hale-Bopp passed Earth on its path toward the sun. What did the members do ? Find out when Raven & Rhe dive deep into the rise and fall of Heaven’s Gate to close out the pilot season.

The Rise of The Garden "Commune" & Fall of NXIVM

NXIVM was an American sex cult that engaged in sex trafficking while claiming to be a multi-level marketing company. Based in Clifton Park, New York, a suburb of Albany, the group claimed to offer personal and professional development seminars through its "Executive Success Programs" of large-group awareness training. The Garden, formerly known as Shut Up and Grow It, is commune that claims to be egalitarian, alternative, leaderless (leaderful), community, propagating a culture of sharing, freedom, and cooperation. But with recent traction on TikTok from user @treeisalive, users are now starting to believe this commune just might be that start of a cult like Jonestown or The Manson Family.... What do you think?

    The Branch Davidians- Episode 14

For nearly two months in 1993, the city of Waco, Texas was under the spotlight for the intense standoff between federal and state law enforcement against the religious sect The Branch Davidians, led by David Koresh. A religious group originating in the 50s, The Branch Davidians were founded based on Victor Houteff’s prophecy of an imminent apocalypse involving the Second Coming of Jesus. After allegations of abuse and potentially housing illegal weapons, law enforcement began investigating and decided to arrest Koresh. The decision would lead to a siege lasting two months, which ended in tragedy. On episode 4 in their discussion of infamous cults, Raven & Rhe explore the chilling group who’s historical and tragic standoff made front line news, and was cited as the inspiration behind the 1995 Oklahoma City Bombing.

    Children of God- S1. E3

⚠️TRIGGER WARNING: CHILD S*XUAL ABUSE* A family with a sinister history. On episode 3 of our pilot season on cults, Raven and Rhe get pretty heated when discussing the notorious group Children Of God which unlike the previous cults we’ve looked at, this one is still active despite the decades worth of scandals, controversies, and illegal activities. This cult is known to have once had members you may recognize like the family of River & Joaquin Phoenix as well as Rose McGowan. We warn our watchers/listeners that if you are sensitive to the topics of s*xual abuse of children, i*cest, & human trafficking then it would be wise to not tune into the episode or at least be aware that these concepts will be discussed as they are related to the group. #cults #truecrime #truecrimepodcast

    Don't Drink The Koolaid- S1 E1

Have you ever had someone tell you “don’t drink the kool-aid?” Did you know that phrase was coined following the tragedy of Jonestown that took place in 1978? After 918 devoted followers of The Peoples Temple died from drinking cyanide laced KooL-aid, the phrase means for one to not be taken in by anything like an idea or person to the point where your whole life is dedicated to it, which is unfortunately what happened on that fateful day in Guyana. On the pilot episode of season one of The Very Eerie, Extremely Wicked, & Quite Spooky Podcast, Raven and Rhe will explore the perplexing rise and tragic fall of Jim Jones’ The People’s Temple, which prior to the attacks on 9/11 was the greatest single loss of American citizens.
