    World Cup Final Massive Audience + ESPN Firings And Petty Dealings With Outkick.com etc | LWOS Media Podcast

    We're back here in the Summertime with another edition of the show with sports media takes, news, and info on the "LWOS Media Podcast." Host T.J. Rives gives his thoughts on: Amazing World Cup Final won by Spain (in a less than thrilling 1-0 game) over Argentina and was this the last World Cup for Fox Sports, as the deal with FIFA has expired? If so, they did an amazing job covering the drama and there's ratings success to also to tout. Then, he talks the Friday night real time TV coverage by USA Network and Golf Channel of Bryson DeChambeau's "meltdown" over a two stroke penalty at the Open Championship. It was "tremendous TV" and even with a dramatic win on the final hole Sunday by New Zealand's Ryan Fox, DeChambeau overshadowed it all. T.J. has takes. And, then the unfortunate latest rounds of ESPN firings and non-renewals (don't call them layoffs) that took place this week, where anchor/play by play man Karl Ravetch is the biggest name to be ousted after 33 years with the network, but NFL analyst Ryan Clark is the most controversial and polarizing. We go over over it all and the outstanding journalism by Bobby Burack of Outkick.com to have the story and then, how petty ESPN PR acted to delay him comment and then leak the story to others.  We go over a bunch on the "LWOS Media Podcast" and make sure to follow/subscribe on Apple/Spreaker/Spotify, etc.!

    MLB All Star Game, World Cup Finishes Up, Wimbledon And More With Awful Announcing's Ken Fang | LWOS Media Podcast

    Lots to go over as the Summer rolls on with the MLB All Star Game Tuesday, the World Cup wrapping up this week and more. And, we're ready to go over iall from a media perspective on the "LWOS Media Podcast!" Host T.J. Rives returns with Ken Fang of Awful Announcing for their takes and insight. They talk the MLB "Home Run Derby" coverage by Netflix for the first time and the reality of streaming services becoming so large. The guys then breakdown Fox Sports/MLB showcasing the All Star Game itself.  That segues into Fox and their coverage of the Soccer World Cup that is finishing up this week. What abou the massive audience and will it continue for the Tuesday and Wednesday weekday ratings without the USA team involved? Also, what about the different broadcasters on the coverage and will Fox hang on to the coverage with their deal expiriing? The guys have takes on ESPN/ABC's coverage of Wimbledon tennis (a hint- Ken's not a fan), plus a salute to an NBA announcer saying goodbye after 37 years of calling every season of his team's existence.     It's a brand new edition of the POD off the July 4th holiday weekend and we're ready to go over the latest with sports media news, info and conversation on the "LWOS Media Podcast!" Host T.J. Rives is joined by outstaning columnist from SportingNews.com and college basketball hall of fame writer, Mike DeCourcy to go over it all! They start talking first about how far technology has come in communication and in work related challenges in the media business. Mike has amazing stories about how ancient the methods were in the 1980s to cover and write or talk about games was! Next, they talk tons about the ongoing World Cup: What happened to the U.S. Men's National Team Monday night in Seattle? Where and how much do we shovel blame? Also, the "star" of the team, Christain Pulisic, was basically a no-show and shouldn't there be the same criticism of him like other big stars of team sports?  Mike and T.J. have thoughts on that and will the Fox audience drop off without the Americans? And, what are Mike's thoughts on whether Fox can hang onto the FIFA rights with their contract expiring and does this mean a streaming service will take over? They also discuss the current state of college hoops and the money involved with paying players legitimately through NIL and the departure of Michigan national championship coach Dusty May bolting for the NBA and the Dallas Mavericks.     We're back to close out June and head into July with the slower Summer going, but there's still plenty to talk about with sports media news, personalities, etc. on the "LWOS Media Podcast!" Host T.J. Rives returns with co-hosts: Jason Powers of the "Powers on Sports Podcast" and DeShaun Tate of "Tate's Take Podcast" and Locked on Atlanta Hawks Podcast coverage to discuss it all. They talk plenty of World Cup and the U.S. Men's National Team and just how much interest is there on the TV coverage, etc. Plus, DeShaun is in Atlanta and the English are there for their Wednesday match. And, if the USA wins in Santa Clara, CA on Wednesday night, how much audience will build up this weekend for the next match?     It's the biggest sporting event in the world, as every four years the FIFA World Cup is held in Soccer. And on this special edition of the podcast, host T.J. Rives is joined by Fox Sports' long time lead host for their Soccer coverage, Rob Stone.  Rob and T.J. are long time friends from the 1990's in the Tampa Bay market and his love of Soccer was apparent then, as he shared great stories from early in his career.     NASCAR In Nashville, NBA Finals, Stanley Cup And World Cup With Nick Couzin! | LWOS Media Podcast

    It's another jammed packed week to discuss the latesst in sports media, stories, news and newsmakers. And, we're ready to discuss it all on the "Last Word on Sports Media Podcast!" Host T.J. Rives returns with guest Nick Couzin of Roundtable Sports to give their insight and takes. Nick is just off covering the "Cracker Barrel 400" NASCAR race in Nashville and talks about the experience and the differences for the media than other sports. Then, there's talk of the NBA Finals and coverage by ABC of the Knicks and the Spurs. The guys also go over the main announce team of Mike Breen, Richard Jefferson and Tim Legler. And, they also give their "thumbs up" to the Inside the NBA imported pregame, halftime and post game show adding to their broadcasts. There's also discussion on the Big 12 controversy with Texas Tech allowing QB Brendan Sorsby to go to Lubbock court to keep him eligible despite admitting to betting 10s of thousands of dollars on college football and his own team. The other Big 12 schools and even, some out of conference are threatening to not play them. What about the media coverage and pressure on this and will it make Texas Tech change their mind?     It's the start of the coverage for the NBA and Stanley Cup Finals, LOTS of Disney/ESPN sports media news and a special guest to talk Fox and The World Cup, too! It all happens with host T.J. Rives and the "LWOS Media Podcast!" T.J. has takes on the Giants Jaxson Dart controversy for introducing President Donald Trump at an event and why the double standards with politcs and sports have existed for the last 2-3 decades. He also has thoughts on CBS destroying it's "Late Show" brand and whether 60 minutes should be pre-empted for the biggest sports events on Sunday evenings? Then, there's more on the chase for "Lord Stanley's Cup" in hockey with Vegas and Carolina (not exactly major media market help) battling and the broadcasters, etc. The NBA Finals start up with San Antonio and the NY Knicks and the #1 media market appearing in the championship series for the first time since 1999 (when they played the Spurs, also). What can we expect from the audience numbers and what about the rare "muting" of Stephen A. "Solitaire" Smith during the NBA??
