Welcome to Crime Scenes: A True Crime Movie Podcast! The show is hosted by us, Bolton Harris and Grace Baehren, two movie buffs, true crime addicts, former lawyers, and friends since college!! Each week we will recap a movie based on a true crime while also discussing additional facts about the real events gathered from our own research. We promise to keep the banter fun, the stories interesting, and that there will never be a dull moment!

    Episode 12: Drew Peterson: Untouchable

    In Episode 12, Bolton and Grace recap the 2012 Lifetime Movie, Drew Peterson: Untouchable, and discuss the facts of the true crime story that the movie is based on.  The screenplay was written by Teena Booth and based on the book "Fatal Vows: The Tragic Wives of Sergeant Drew Peterson" by reporter/author Joseph Hosey. The movie was directed by Mikael Salomon.  The film stars Rob Lowe as Drew Peterson, a police officer who arouses suspicion after his fourth wife goes missing four years after his third wife was found dead. Kaley Cuoco stars as Stacy Peterson, Drew's fourth wife. This movie is classic Lifetime with cringey scenes and an abundance of drama. The movie is unique in that it was made after Drew Peterson appeared on multiple media outlets to speak about his fourth wife's disappearance and his third wife's death, but before he was convicted.  Additionally, Joseph Hosey's book, on which the movie is based, was published before Drew Peterson was even indicted on charges.     Episode 11: Catch Me If You Can

    In Episode 11, Bolton and Grace recap the 2002 film, Catch Me If You Can, and discuss the facts of the true crime story that the movie is based on.  The movie was written by Jeff Nathanson and directed by Steven Spielberg and is based on the autobiography of the same name written by Frank Abagnale Jr. with Stan Redding . The film stars Leonardo DiCaprio as Frank Abagnale Jr., a self-proclaimed con man who contends that he successfully performed cons worth millions of dollars by posing as a Pan American World Airways pilot, a doctor, and a prosecutor - all before his 19th birthday. Tom Hanks plays Carl Hanratty, an FBI agent who chases and eventually apprehends Frank Abagnale Jr. Christopher Walken plays Frank Abagnale Sr. and Nathalie Baye plays Frank Jr.’s mother. There are cameos from various other famous actors and actresses and viewers will enjoy seeing who pops up next. The film is fast-paced and entertaining, but after reading the book “The Greatest Hoax on Earth: Catching Truth While We Still Can” by Alan C. Logan, viewers may be disappointed to compare investigative research to Frank Abagnale Jr. 's story. This is definitely our most meta episode yet!     Episode 10: Molly's Game

    In Episode 10, Bolton and Grace recap the 2017 film, Molly’s Game, and discuss the facts of the true crime story that the movie is based on.  The movie was written and directed by Aaron Sorkin and is based on the 2014 memoir of the same name written by Molly Bloom. The film stars Jessica Chastain as Molly Bloom, a former world-class skier and aspiring law student, who found herself running a star studded high stakes poker game. Kevin Costner plays Molly’s demanding father, Michael Cera plays the infamously repugnant ‘Player X’, and Idris Elba plays Molly’s lawyer who she hires after she is named in a Federal mob indictment. The film focuses on the life of Molly Bloom, how she came to run such a high-stakes poker game, why she ends up in Federal Court and perhaps why she received the sentence she did. The film is a nice break (for the most part) from violent crime stories and immerses viewers into the world of high-stakes private poker.     Episode 9: In Cold Blood (Part 2)

    In Episode 9, Bolton and Grace finish recapping the 1967 true crime classic, In Cold Blood, and discuss the facts of the true crime story that the movie is based on.  The movie was written, directed, and produced by Richard Brooks and is based on the 1966 book of the same name written by Truman Capote. The musical score was composed by the great Quincy Jones. The film stars Robert Blake and Scott Wilson as convicted murderers Perry Smith and Richard "Dick" Hickock. The film focuses on the seemingly random murder of a family of four in Holcomb, Kansas. Truman Capote's In Cold Blood is hailed by many to be the birth of the true crime genre. Likewise, the movie is often noted as the first true crime movie ever made.  The film goes beyond birthing the true crime film genre and provides an entertaining, yet not overly dramatized or gory, and aesthetically interesting viewer experience.
