    Spiritual Warfare: The Battle You Don't Have to Fight with Bill Vanderbush and host Latoya Lackey

    What if much of what we have called spiritual warfare is actually rooted in forgetting who we are?In this episode of That Kingdom Life, I sit down with Bill Vanderbush for a deep conversation about union with Christ, identity, the finished work of Jesus, spiritual warfare, deliverance, and what it means to live from the reality that Christ is in us and we are in Him.We talk about the early church understanding of theosis, how Christianity developed language of distance and separation, and why seeing Jesus as fully God AND fully human changes what we believe is possible for our own lives.We also go into some territory that may challenge the way you have thought about spiritual warfare and deliverance.What if the enemy's primary weapon is a lie?What if our confidence in darkness has sometimes become greater than our confidence in the finished work of Christ?And what happens when we stop beginning our story with the fall in Genesis 3 and remember that our true origin story begins before Adam, in Christ?Bill and I also explore the difference between knowing something theologically and actually awakening to it experientially. Union is not simply another doctrine to believe. It changes the way we see God, ourselves, darkness, salvation, authority, and the world around us.One of my favorite thoughts from this conversation:If our beginning starts in Genesis 3, we will spend our lives trying to outrun Adam.     What If You’re Not Broken? | Finding Wholeness with Brooke Waters

    What if the journey isn’t about fixing what’s broken, but remembering who you already are? In this episode of That Kingdom Life, I sit down with Brooke Waters of Path to Wholeness for a wide-open conversation about identity, wholeness, hearing God, religious expectations, emotions, pain, and learning to live as the person God actually created you to be. Brooke is a crisis counselor, addictions and recovery counselor, and founder of Path to Wholeness. Her work centers around helping people discover what she calls the truth that they are “already whole.” And this conversation goes everywhere.We talk about what wholeness actually means and why it is not the same thing as perfection. We explore how easily we can mistake other people’s expectations for our identity, why the things that come naturally to us may reveal something about how we were created, and what happens when we stop judging ourselves and become curious instead. We also get into hearing God. What if God has been speaking more than you realize? What if you’ve dismissed His voice because it didn’t sound “spiritual” enough? Brooke shares a simple way she teaches teenagers to communicate with the Trinity: imagine you’re texting Him. Tell Him what you’re actually thinking and feeling. Relationship with God doesn’t have to be complicated. We also talk honestly about pain, fear, emotions, religious expectations, living in the present instead of the “what if,” and allowing ourselves to experience both the difficult and beautiful parts of being human. This one feels less like an interview and more like you pulled up a chair and listened in on Brooke and me having coffee for the first time. I hope it causes you to ask some new questions about yourself, God, and the way you were created.
