What to Do When God Seems Silent

What do you do when you have prayed about the same thing for months or even years and nothing seems to change? You still believe God is good. You still believe He hears you. But if we are honest, His silence can begin to feel like absence. In Psalm 13, David begins by asking, “How long, O Lord?” Yet he ends by declaring, “I will sing to the Lord” without any evidence that his circumstances have changed. What changes is David’s posture toward God. In this episode, you will discover: • Why honest lament is an act of trust, not a failure of faith   • The difference between trusting God and merely toughing it out   • Why persistent prayer does not mean you lack faith   • How to hold what you feel against what you know about God   • Why peace can begin before your circumstances change   You do not need to pretend that the fear, disappointment or sorrow has disappeared. Bring your pain to Jesus. Speak honestly, ask boldly, remember who He is all while  choosing to trust. This is part two of The Quiet Work of God, a series about trusting God when His work is hidden. Why Keep Going When Nothing Seems to Change?

What do you do when you have been faithful, but nothing seems to be changing? When there is no visible progress, encouragement or reward, it is easy to wonder whether your obedience matters or whether God is doing anything at all. Drawing from 1 Corinthians 3:5–9, Pastor Chris explores the tension between faithful effort and results we can’t control. We are called to plant and water, but God alone gives the growth. In this episode, you will discover: • Why a lack of visible results does not mean you have failed  • How the need for recognition can turn stewardship into ownership  • Why faithfulness is neither passivity nor control  • How to keep obeying God when the soil still looks unchanged  • Why hidden faithfulness never escapes God’s notice  Sometimes faithfulness simply means putting one foot in front of the other and continuing along the path God has given you. Don’t force the outcome. Obey Jesus, trust Him with the growth and keep walking. Follow Walking with Conviction so the next episode appears automatically. If you know someone who is tired of doing good without seeing results, share this episode with them. #573 Why pray if God already knows?

If God already knows what you need before you ask, why pray at all? Many of us quietly assume prayer is meant to persuade God, change His mind, or convince Him to fix our circumstances. But Jesus teaches something far deeper. Prayer is not primarily about informing God. It is one of the ways God forms us. In this episode of Walking with Conviction, Pastor Chris Miller continues the series Learning to Live: The Ordinary Habits of Extraordinary Faith by exploring the Lord’s Prayer, unanswered prayer, anxiety, peace, and the true purpose of coming before God. You’ll discover: • Why prayer begins with “Our Father” • Why God does not need to be persuaded, manipulated, or informed • How prayer reorders our desires and priorities • Why “Your kingdom come” matters before we make our requests • The difference between feeling anxious and being ruled by anxiety • How the peace of God guards us even when our circumstances do not change • Why prayer is less about changing our circumstances and more about God changing us If you have ever prayed repeatedly and nothing seemed to happen, wondered whether prayer really works, or felt like your anxiety meant you were failing spiritually, this episode offers an honest, compassionate, and deeply biblical perspective. Prayer may not always remove the burden, but it draws us close to the Father who already knows what we need. God uses the ordinary habit of prayer to form extraordinary faith. #572 Why Reading The Bible Changes More Then Your Mind

Most Christians know they should read the Bible. But have you ever stopped to ask why? Is it simply to gain more knowledge? To become a better theologian? Win a game of Bible trivia? Or did God give us His Word for something far greater? In this episode of Walking with Conviction, Pastor Chris Miller continues the series Learning to Live: The Ordinary Habits of Extraordinary Faith by exploring one of the often overlooked truths in the Christian life: The Bible wasn’t given merely to inform you. It was given to form you. Scripture is one of God’s primary instruments of transformation. As we consistently place ourselves under His Word, meditate on it, and allow the Holy Spirit to apply it, God reshapes our thoughts, our priorities, and eventually even our instincts. In this episode you’ll discover: - Why simply knowing more about the Bible isn’t enough - The difference between information and spiritual formation - Why biblical meditation changes more than memory - The difference between conviction and condemnation - Why pressure reveals what formation has been building - How God’s Truth becomes your natural response when life is at its hardest Whether you've been following Jesus for decades or are just beginning to take Scripture seriously, this episode will encourage you to see the Bible with fresh eyes, not as another task to complete, but as God’s gracious means of shaping you into becoming more like Jesus. 🎧 New to the podcast? #571 What is Quietly Shaping Your Life?

You don’t become the person you hope to be by accident. Every notification, every conversation, every habit, every decision, and every ordinary day is quietly shaping your future. The question isn’t whether you’re being formed—it’s what is forming you? In today's episode Pastor Chris Miller explores why attention is one of the most powerful forces shaping our lives. Drawing on Scripture, everyday experience, and even modern neuroscience, we discover that lasting spiritual growth rarely happens through dramatic moments. More often, God uses small, ordinary habits faithfully repeated over time.  In this episode we'll look at: Why your attention is shaping your character The surprising connection between neuroscience and spiritual formation How ordinary habits become the path of least resistance Why a day is more valuable than you realise The difference between urgency and purpose Why Jesus wasn't never driven by urgency How a simple Rule of Life can help you become the person God is calling you to be.  Whether you’re feeling distracted, overwhelmed, spiritually stagnant, or simply longing to grow, this episode will help you understand that the life you want is built one ordinary day at a time. ☕ Support the podcast If you've found value in Walking with Conviction in an Anxious Age and you’d like to support the podcast, you can buy me a coffee here: https://buymeacoffee.com/walking_with_conviction Every gift helps make more episodes like this one possible. #570 You're Becoming Someone. Is It Who You Want to Be?

You don’t drift into becoming the person you hope to be. Every day, your habits, routines, and repeated choices are quietly shaping your character and determining the direction of your life. In this first episode of our new series, Learning to Live, Pastor Chris Miller explores the biblical idea of the 'Rule of Life' -the daily rhythms and practices that shape who we become over time. Drawing from Deuteronomy 6 and Jesus’ words in Luke 6, we discover that spiritual maturity is rarely built through dramatic moments. More often, it grows through ordinary faithfulness repeated over years. In this episode you’ll discover: • Why everyone already has a rule of life—even if they don’t realise it • The difference between rules, laws, and principles • Why the path you’re on matters more than your intentions • How daily habits quietly shape your future • How Jesus calls us to build lives that stand when the storms come Whether you’re feeling spiritually stuck, longing to grow, or simply wondering why lasting change feels so difficult, this episode will help you see that the life you want is built one ordinary day at a time. 🎧 Search Walking with Conviction in an Anxious Age on Spotify or Apple Podcasts.
