FIREPOWER: Willpower vs Firepower | Judah Thomas

God is not telling you to _________ ___________________. [Galatians 3:3] How foolish can you be? After starting your new lives in the Spirit, why are you now trying to become perfect by your own human effort? Salvation begins with ___________________. We can't trust ___________________ to save us and then trust ___________________ to change us. [Galatians 5:19-23 ESV] Now the works of the flesh are evident: sexual immorality, impurity, sensuality, [20] idolatry, sorcery, enmity, strife, jealousy, fits of anger, rivalries, dissensions, divisions, [21] envy, drunkenness, orgies, and things like these. I warn you, as I warned you before, that those who do such things will not inherit the kingdom of God. [22] But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, [23] gentleness, self-control; against such things there is no law. We can't produce the Fruit of the Spirit _________________ the Spirit. [John 15:4 ESV] Abide in me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit by itself, unless it abides in the vine, neither can you, unless you abide in me. Spiritual fruit isn't the result of trying __________________; It's the result of staying ___________________. Before the Spirit demonstrates His power _______________ you, He wants to develop His character __________ you. [Galatians 2:20] My old self has been crucified with Christ. It is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me. So I live in this earthly body by trusting in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me. The Holy Spirit is making us like ___________________. [Galatians 5:16] So I say, let the Holy Spirit guide your lives. Then you won't be doing what your sinful nature craves.

Your Turn: The Evangelists (March 10, 2019) | Judah Thomas

Our gifts are to be used in ____________, to ____________ people, and ____________ them to Jesus. [Ephesians 4.11-12] Now these are the gifts Christ gave to the church: the apostles, the prophets, the evangelists, and the pastors and teachers. [12] Their responsibility is to equip God’s people to do his work and build up the church, the body of Christ. __________ are God's __________ for reaching the world. [Romans 10.13-15] For “Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.” [14] But how can they call on him to save them unless they believe in him? And how can they believe in him if they have never heard about him? And how can they hear about him unless someone tells them? [15] And how will anyone go and tell them without being sent? That is why the Scriptures say, “How beautiful are the feet of messengers who bring good news!” Evangelism is simply ____________ people to put their ____________ in Jesus. [Matthew 28.19-20] Go and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit. [20] Teach these new disciples to obey all the commands I have given you. And be sure of this: I am with you always, even to the end of the age.” We are called to make ______________ not converts. [Matthew 4.18-20] One day as Jesus was walking along the shore of the Sea of Galilee, he saw two brothers—Simon, also called Peter, and Andrew—throwing a net into the water, for they fished for a living. [19] Jesus called out to them, “Come, follow me, and I will show you how to fish for people!” [20] And they left their nets at once and followed him. We are _________ ____________ to share our faith. Evangelism starts with ____________. [Acts 4.29-31] And now, O Lord, hear their threats, and give us, your servants, great boldness in preaching your word. [30] Stretch out your hand with healing power; may miraculous signs and wonders be done through the name of your holy servant Jesus.” [31] After this prayer, the meeting place shook, and they were all filled with the Holy Spirit. Then they preached the word of God with boldness. Religion teaches how to ____________ with sin, but Jesus ________________ it.

FIREPOWER: The Ghost in You | Judah Thomas

The Holy Spirit is a ________________, not a _______________. [John 14:26] But when the Father sends the Advocate as my representative--that is, the Holy Spirit--he will teach you everything and will remind you of everything I have told you. The Holy Ghost isn't the presence of someone _______________, He's the presence of Someone _______________. [Romans 8:11] The Spirit of God, who raised Jesus from the dead, lives in you. And just as God raised Christ Jesus from the dead, he will give life to your mortal bodies by this same Spirit living within you. [John 16:7] But in fact, it is best for you that I go away, because if I don't, the Advocate won't come. If I do go away, then I will send him to you. [John 14:16-17] And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another Advocate, who will never leave you. [17] He is the Holy Spirit, who leads into all truth. The world cannot receive him, because it isn't looking for him and doesn't recognize him. But you know him, because he lives with you now and later will be in you. God keeps coming _______________. [Exodus 29:44-45] Yes, I will consecrate the Tabernacle and the altar, and I will consecrate Aaron and his sons to serve me as priests. [45] Then I will live among the people of Israel and be their God. [John 1:14 NIV] The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us. We have seen his glory, the glory of the one and only Son, who came from the Father, full of grace and truth. God's presence moved from _______________ us, to __________ us, to _________ us. [Matthew 27:51a] At that moment the curtain in the sanctuary of the Temple was torn in two, from top to bottom.  [1 Corinthians 3:16] Don't you realize that all of you together are the temple of God and that the Spirit of God lives in you? You don't have to get God's _______________ when you already have His _______________. [Romans 8:9] But you are not controlled by your sinful nature. You are controlled by the Spirit if you have the Spirit of God living in you. (And remember that those who do not have the Spirit of Christ living in them do not belong to him at all.) The Spirit is God's _______________ to everyone who _______________ to Jesus. [Galatians 5:25 NIV] Since we live by the Spirit, let us keep in step with the Spirit. Stop trying to accomplish through _______________ what God wants to accomplish through _______________.

Your Turn: The Prophets (March 3, 2019) | Judah Thomas

Our gifts are to be used in _____________, to ____________ people, and _____________ them to Jesus. [Ephesians 4.11-12] Now these are the gifts Christ gave to the church: the apostles, the prophets, the evangelists, and the pastors and teachers. [12] Their responsibility is to equip God’s people to do his work and build up the church, the body of Christ. Prophets _____________ and _____________ the voice of God. [Acts 2.17] ‘In the last days,’ God says, ‘I will pour out my Spirit upon all people. Your sons and daughters will prophesy. Your young men will see visions, and your old men will dream dreams. [1 Thessalonians 5.19-21] Do not stifle the Holy Spirit. [20] Do not scoff at prophecies, [21] but test everything that is said. Hold on to what is good. True prophecy always inspires _____________ not fear. Prophets tend to ________ ___________ others do not see. [Galatians 6:1] Dear brothers and sisters, if another believer is overcome by some sin, you who are godly should gently and humbly help that person back onto the right path. And be careful not to fall into the same temptation yourself. Prophecy starts with _______________. [John 10.27] My sheep listen to my voice; I know them, and they follow me. You can't speak on God's _____________ if you aren't _____________ His voice. Prophecy _____________ with spiritual disciplines. Prophecy is _____________. [1 Corinthians 14:3] But the one who prophesies speaks to people for their strengthening, encouraging and comfort. [Ephesians 4.29] NIV Do not let any unwholesome talk come out of your mouths, but only what is helpful for building others up according to their needs, that it may benefit those who listen. Do your words _____________ up or _____________ down? [Romans 12:6] In his grace, God has given us different gifts for doing certain things well. So if God has given you the ability to prophesy, speak out with as much faith as God has given you.

MIND THE GAP: Purpose in the Gap | Chris Varanelli

Minding the gap isn’t always ________________. It can be full of ________________. Our stories don’t have to end at our ________________, when we’re most ________________. [Acts 9:3-6] As he was approaching Damascus on this mission, a light from heaven suddenly shone down around him. He fell to the ground and heard a voice saying to him, “Saul! Saul! Why are you persecuting me?” “Who are you, lord?” Saul asked. And the voice replied, “I am Jesus, the one you are persecuting! Now get up and go into the city, and you will be told what you must do.” Life in the gap can be ________________, disheartening, and can feel ________________. God can use our ________________ as ________________. [Philippians 1:12-14] And I want you to know, my dear brothers and sisters, that everything that has happened to me here has helped to spread the Good News. For everyone here, including the whole palace guard, knows that I am in chains because of Christ. And because of my imprisonment, most of the believers here have gained confidence and boldly speak God’s message without fear. The place you ________________ want to be could be the place God wants to ________________ you most. [2 Corinthians 12:7b-10] Three different times I begged the Lord to take it away. Each time he said, “My grace is all you need. My power works best in weakness.” So now I am glad to boast about my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ can work through me. That’s why I take pleasure in my weaknesses, and in the insults, hardships, persecutions, and troubles that I suffer for Christ. For when I am weak, then I am strong. There is as much purpose in the ________________ as in the ________________. [Romans 5:3-4] We can rejoice, too, when we run into problems and trials, for we know that they help us develop endurance. And endurance develops strength of character, and character strengthens our confident hope of salvation. [2 Corinthians 1:4] God comforts us in all our troubles so that we can comfort others. When they are troubled, we will be able to give them the same comfort God has given us. God uses the gap to ________________ our faith and ________________ our faith. The gap isn’t just ________________ us for our purpose. It’s ________________ of our purpose. [Romans 8:28] And we know that God causes everything to work together for the good of those who love God and are called according to his purpose for them.

Your Turn: The Apostles (February 24, 2019) | Judah Thomas

Our gifts are to be used in ___________, to ___________ people, and ___________ them to Jesus. [Ephesians 4:11-12] Now these are the gifts Christ gave to the church: the apostles, the prophets, the evangelists, and the pastors and teachers. [12] Their responsibility is to equip God’s people to do his work and build up the church, the body of Christ. The Church is ________________ when these five gifts are not operating properly. [1 Corinthians 12:4-7] There are different kinds of spiritual gifts, but the same Spirit is the source of them all. [5] There are different kinds of service, but we serve the same Lord. [6] God works in different ways, but it is the same God who does the work in all of us. [7] A spiritual gift is given to each of us so we can help each other. “Apostle” means "one who is ________________". [Ephesians 2.20] Together, we are his house, built on the foundation of the apostles and the prophets. And the cornerstone is Christ Jesus himself. Apostles help to build the ________________. [Romans 12:8b] If God has given you leadership ability, take the responsibility seriously. True pioneers of the Spirit are never ________________. Apostles often pray for the ________________ of God's Kingdom. - Try to find __________-ideas in the midst of the __________-ideas. - Don't base the ________________ of people on their ability to contribute to your ________________. - Stay focused on the ________________ at hand and don't get sidetracked. [Luke 9.62] But Jesus told him, “Anyone who puts a hand to the plow and then looks back is not fit for the Kingdom of God.” - Find the direction that God has set for you and stick to it __________ _________ _____________.

MIND THE GAP: Trust in the Wilderness | Kirsten Salgado

It is in the gap that God does his ________ work in our hearts. God wants closeness with _____! [Exodus 14:11-12 NIV] They said to Moses, “Was it because there were no graves in Egypt that you have taken us away to die in the wilderness? What have you done to us, bringing us out of Egypt? [12] Is this not the very thing we told you in Egypt, ‘Let us alone so that we can serve the Egyptians’? For it would have been better for us to serve the Egyptians than to die in the wilderness.” [Exodus 15:25b-26] It was there at Marah that the Lord set before them the following decree as a standard to test their faithfulness to him. [26] He said, “If you will listen carefully to the voice of the Lord your God and do what is right in his sight, obeying his commands and keeping all his decrees, then I will not make you suffer any of the diseases I sent on the Egyptians; for I am the Lord who heals you.” Trusting God in the __________- is often harder than living in the bondage we ________. God is ________ you in the gap. [Exodus 16:2-4 NRSVUE] The whole congregation of the Israelites complained against Moses and Aaron in the wilderness. [3] The Israelites said to them, “If only we had died by the hand of the Lord in the land of Egypt, when we sat by the pots of meat and ate our fill of bread, for you have brought us out into this wilderness to kill this whole assembly with hunger.” [4] Then the Lord said to Moses, “I am going to rain bread from heaven for you, and each day the people shall go out and gather enough for that day. In that way I will test them, whether they will follow my instruction or not. [Exodus 20:19] they said to Moses, “You speak to us, and we will listen. But don’t let God speak directly to us, or we will die!” Trust takes ____________. Trust takes ____________. [Deuteronomy 8:1-7] “Be careful to obey all the commands I am giving you today. Then you will live and multiply, and you will enter and occupy the land the Lord swore to give your ancestors. [2] Remember how the Lord your God led you through the wilderness for these forty years, humbling you and testing you to prove your character (NIV says “to know what was in your heart”), and to find out whether or not you would obey his commands. [3] Yes, he humbled you by letting you go hungry and then feeding you with manna, a food previously unknown to you and your ancestors. He did it to teach you that people do not live by bread alone; rather, we live by every word that comes from the mouth of the Lord. [4] For all these forty years your clothes didn’t wear out, and your feet didn’t blister or swell. [5] Think about it: Just as a parent disciplines a child, the Lord your God disciplines* you for your own good. [6] “So obey the commands of the Lord your God by walking in his ways and fearing him. [7] For the Lord your God is bringing you into a good land of flowing streams and pools of water, with fountains and springs that gush out in the valleys and hills. [Matthew 4:1-4 NLT] [1] Then Jesus was led by the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted there by the devil. [2] For forty days and forty nights he fasted and became very hungry. [3] During that time the devil came and said to him, "If you are the Son of God, tell these stones to become loaves of bread." [4] But Jesus told him, "No! The Scriptures say, 'People do not live by bread alone, but by every word that comes from the mouth of God.'" God wants us to trust his ___________. [Hebrews 11:39-40] All these people earned a good reputation because of their faith, yet none of them received all that God had promised. [40] For God had something better in mind for us, so that they would not reach perfection without US.

Your Turn: The Gifts (February 17, 2019) | Judah Thomas

[1 Peter 4.10] God has given each of you a gift from his great variety of spiritual gifts. Use them well to serve one another. Everyone that follows Jesus has been given a _____________ ______________. [Acts 1:8] But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes upon you. And you will be my witnesses, telling people about me everywhere—in Jerusalem, throughout Judea, in Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.” These gifts are given to point people to _____________. [1 Corinthians 12.14-18] Yes, the body has many different parts, not just one part. 15 If the foot says, “I am not a part of the body because I am not a hand,” that does not make it any less a part of the body. 16 And if the ear says, “I am not part of the body because I am not an eye,” would that make it any less a part of the body? [17] If the whole body were an eye, how would you hear? Or if your whole body were an ear, how would you smell anything? [18] But our bodies have many parts, and God has put each part just where he wants it. The Church doesn't function at full-capacity without ________. Just because you have a _____________ doesn’t mean it won't take _____________. [2 Timothy 1:6] This is why I remind you to fan into flames the spiritual gift God gave you when I laid my hands on you. God gives you everything you need to accomplish your _____________. [Ephesians 4.11] Now these are the gifts Christ gave to the church: the apostles, the prophets, the evangelists, and the pastors and teachers. 12 Their responsibility is to equip God’s people to do his work and build up the church, the body of Christ. These gifts are for _____________ not _____________. [1 Corinthians 13.1-3] If I could speak all the languages of earth and of angels, but didn’t love others, I would only be a noisy gong or a clanging cymbal. [2] If I had the gift of prophecy, and if I understood all of God’s secret plans and possessed all knowledge, and if I had such faith that I could move mountains, but didn’t love others, I would be nothing. [3] If I gave everything I have to the poor and even sacrificed my body, I could boast about it; but if I didn’t love others, I would have gained nothing. 3 Questions to Help You Discover Your Gift Do you _____________ it? Do others _____________ it? Do you actually _____________ in it?
