Chats with Clark

"I'm a mindset guy," I often tell people when describing the content of the podcast. During a Chats with Clark episode, we will engage a conversation about mindsets and ideas that actually matter in the world. The rationale behind our actions, the "why" in what we do, brings us together. It's those mindsets that affect our view of the world.  At the end of each episode, I hope that all of us are better than we were before thinking about the topics of that day. Thank you for tuning in!

Kat & Noura: "Unfiltered Brew" Podcast Hosts; Live Life Authentically; Overcoming Obstacles to Grow!

Living life "unfiltered" is an idea growing in popularity throughout society. For Noura Awad and Kat, the guests of episode 82, living unfiltered means being your authentic self and aiming to put that out there at all times. Episode 82 of the Chats with Clark Podcast puts Kat and Noura on the opposite of the mic, as they are typically hosting their own podcast called Unfiltered Brew.  Unfiltered Brew has emerged on the Cleveland scene as a place for Clevelanders to build their brand image and share stories of who they truly are, as Kat puts it in our conversation. As with any business, Kat and Noura experienced struggles that tested their perseverance; however, their commitment to each other as friends and the movement that they had started keep them grounded.  For many, working with a best friend could be intimidating, recognizing that the friendship would be tested. As Kat and Noura put it, they are soulmates of sorts: not the romantic kind, but as best of friends who love each other dearly. This dynamic allows for them to be upfront and transparent about their needs with one another and for the show. Ultimately, their approach to running the business is a great example to all of us on how to progress through difficult situations. As two non-native English speakers, the hosts of the Unfiltered Brew Podcast sit down on episode 82 of Chats with Clark to share stories of achieving, of overcoming family difficulties and social pressures, and placing emphasis on what one truly wants to do (in their case, make a difference by adding tangible value in the lives of their listeners).  Check out more from the Unfiltered Brew Podcast, its hosts, and Chats with Clark on social media by visiting the links below!Unfiltered BrewHosts: Noura and KatChats with Clark------------------------------------------------------------------------------------Thank you for checking out episode 82 of the Chats with Clark Podcast! Bits of Bri: First Working Mom on YouTube; Be a Human Disco Ball; Follow What God Puts on Your Heart

"Tenacious, indomitable, and glitter-like" are the three terms that a dear friend of Brianna Koehler "Bits of Bri" used to describe her, prior to her arrival on episode 81 of the Chats with Clark Podcast. Throughout this episode, Bri shares her mindsets that epitomize these attributes. As someone devoted to bringing women together, used her YouTube channel to create a community of women who support and uplift each other, leading Bri to be penned the "first working mom on YouTube"! As a mom of three, Bri commits herself to being fully present in everything that she does. Her focus is to live a life that is holistic and vibrant, and she has taken the approach of believing in that which God has put on her heart. This approach is how she has made the difficult decisions in her life, including leaving her safe and steady job to do YouTube full-time, ending her marriage, and taking trips even solo to ensure growth and exposure in her life. "I may not take the most direct route," Bri contends, "But I'm going to get there one way or another."  Episode 81 with Bri Koehler is like being in a room with a disco ball that is shining its lights all around (hence Bri's ambition to be a human version of a disco ball). This episode will take you through the mindsets, stories, and approaches of someone who is influencing the lives of others and whose inner life ought to be heard. It's raw and vulnerable and will leave all of us feeling like buying the ticket, taking the trip, and working like mad to create the life that we envision, even if that means making the hard decisions.  Check out more from Bri Koehler and Chats with Clark on social media by visiting the links the pinned comment! ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------Thank you for checking out episode 81 of the Chats with Clark Podcast! Hayden Grove: Care about Details & Mental Health; Michael Bublé Influence; Season 27 of "The Voice"

"It's important to care about the details... Care about everything," Hayden Grove, the beloved Cleveland Jazz, rat-pack-style singer contends on episode 80 of Chats with Clark. Grove, who is a steadfast Clevelander, has been singing since he was a child, when his dad would rattle off songs for Hayden to sing.  Growing up in a household that adored music, Hayden had been surrounded by an appreciation for it. Through the years, he took lessons and found that his voice developed towards a sound of the idols before him: Sinatra, Armstrong, Bublé, his own father, and more.  After college, he erupted on the journalism scene, covering highlights of Cleveland sports, like the Cavs championship season, Browns playoffs, and the then-Indians World Series battle. With such success and great opportunities early on, Hayden felt that he had done all he had wanted to do in the sports world and took a chance on himself, on the music.  While singing with local pianist Mike Patrone in Cleveland, Hayden started consistently posting social media videos of him singing. Each video seemed better than the next, and eventually, Hayden garnered the attention of Michael Bublé.  From there, the process expedited; Season 27 of "The Voice," singing alongside Bublé, himself, and now touring as an alter-ego of "Cleveland's Crooner."  Hayden's story is one that has tremendous experiences and very high highs. With them, Hayden openly discusses his bouts with mental health struggles. Hayden urges all of us to "Take our mental health the most seriously, but never to take ourselves too seriously." This passion for mental health wellbeing is near and dear to his heart, so Hayden commits great support and activism towards the realm.  Episode 80 of Chats with Clark will leave you stunned, as we take you behind the scenes of the thought processes of Team Adam's Hayden Grove and what has powered Hayden to reaching new heights in his singing career and beyond.  How does someone on stages in front of thousands overcome battles in his own brain? What does one do to stay grounded when hateful comments are thrown one's way? Where does God fit into all of this? And also, long live music.  In episode 80, we have you covered. Tune in and enjoy Hayden Grove. In the words of Bublé, "You're a beaut, Hayden"! Rocco Whalen: Renowned Cleveland Chef; Owner of Fahrenheit Restaurants; A Homer & Uplifter of Others

"I'm a homer," Chef Rocco Whalen contends to start off episode 79 of Chats with Clark! Born and raised in the suburbs of Cleveland, Ohio, Rocco was always in the kitchen with his grandma and his mom, learning the ins and outs of making dishes that were both delicious and filling.  Moreover, Rocco learned the importance of sitting down for family dinners and chatting about anything and everything. So much so that Rocco is adamant that the world's problems would be better solved around the dinner table with a great meal and perhaps some good bourbon.  This recognition of the humanity of one another is what has allowed for Rocco to excel throughout his career and life. After his initial training under the beloved women in his life, Rocco studied and practiced under the great Wolfgang Puck out in Phoenix, Las Vegas, and the west coast.  At merely twenty-four-years-old, Rocco went all in on himself and opened Fahrenheit in the Tremont neighborhood back home in Cleveland. During the initial opening year of the restaurant, Rocco received praise from Gourmet magazine (and others) and began creating a significant name for himself around the city.  Instead of a cut-throat approach, Rocco believed in the value of collaboration, which is what compelled Chef Rocco Whalen to befriend and learn from Cleveland staple chef Michael Symon. Like advised by Wolfgang, Rocco furthered his name for himself by being a chef that visited the tables and ensured that his restaurant attendees were always satisfied.  Again, person-to-person connection is a value that Rocco has embodied from his youth.  Fahrenheit is thriving with Rocco at the helm because of the full-circle approach. Tune in to hear how Rocco Whalen is using all of the best ingredients both in his food and in the environment to create top notch experiences for all who enter.  Rocco is one of those people whose energy is felt when he is in the room. He's a mover. See for yourself in episode 79, and after you watch, you'll be on the phone with Fahrenheit for a reservation.  Check out more from Rocco Whalen and Chats with Clark on social media by visiting the links below!Rocco WhalenFahrenheit Cleveland and Fahrenheit Charlotte Chats with Clark-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------Thank you for checking out episode 79 of the "Chats with Clark" Podcast! Tom Rini: Inject Passion into Everything; Black Flag Athletics; Practicing a Hall of Fame Mindset

Tom Rini, founder of the gym Black Flag Athletics Strength & Conditioning, joins episode 78 of the Chats with Clark Podcast to share the mindsets that allow for him to excel as a gym owner and a leader.  As a member of the 2011 John Carroll University Athletic Hall of Fame, Tom exhibits a "Hall of Fame" mindset throughout his life. To earn this achievement, Tom displayed steadfast commitment to his craft, almost to an obsessive point.  In business, Tom shares with his employees that energy is infectious. "If we don't act like we want to be here [at the gym], why would anyone else?" This notion of showing up every day with passion and bringing enthusiasm into each aspect of life is Tom's philosophy.  Throughout the process, Tom has grown more in balance. He describes cleaning the toilets and wearing all of the hats when initially starting the business, but through trusted individuals in his corner, they encouraged him to delegate in order to take care of himself. Ultimately, that strive for balance is an ongoing quest and inherently difficult in collaboration with Tom's Hall of Fame mindset. Jason Trusnik: The Respectful Dawg; Former NFL Linebacker; Be Great Today; "I'm Chasing You Down"

Making it to the NFL is an incredible feat, and making it to the NFL and recording your first interception against Tom Brady is a really incredible feat. For Jason Trusnik, these feats, among many others, are highlights of his underdog story and ability to outwork anyone.  Joining Chats with Clark for episode 77, Trusnik shares how he is "chasing you down" in any field that he enters (literally and figuratively). For Trusnik, falling prey to mediocrity is not an option, insofar that he can exhibit top notch attitude, effort, and preparation. Excelling in these areas are what allowed Jason to make the NFL as an undrafted free agent and to compete for years, while gaining and holding the respect of NFL legendary coaches and players alike.  Beyond the NFL, Jason has lived out a life mantra to "Be great today!" by opening a gym a Cleveland, OH suburb (Strongsville) called Pro Sports Performance, where he touts the nickname "The Gorilla" for his intense attributes and overt holistic strength. Through the gym, Trusnik has built a community of individuals that are striving to grow and compete with themselves each step of the way towards better versions of who they are.  More, Jason displays his football knowledge and experience as the head coach of the Strongsville High School football program, where he leads young men to be "respectful dawgs." To Trusnik, a respectful dawg is someone who is a dawg, someone who puts his all out there and is going to work like mad to leave a positive impact and achieve his goals. This dawg, though, is respectful, and is the type to treat people well, lift up others, and be an outstanding sport. For high school young men, these attributes are what Trusnik preaches will carry them well into their lives, beyond merely their football careers, and allow them to excel.  Tune in to episode 77 to hear about "The Gorilla," Jason Trusnik, who exhibits the characteristics needed to be great today and every day, making him the respectful dawg. Former NFL star and a leader in many communities, Trusnik has the mindset of continually making things better and growing; thus, anticipate nothing less for yourself in engaging with this episode.  Check out more from Jason Trusnik and Chats with Clark on social media by visiting the links below!Chats with ClarkJason TrusnikPro Sports Performance-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------Thank you for checking out episode 77 of the Chats with Clark Podcast! Jim Walter: Building a Family Legacy; Overcoming the Murder of His Family; Empowering Women in BLOOM

Jim Walter, renowned UFC manager and entrepreneur, joins episode 75 of Chats with Clark, which Jim notes as his first real public appearance since his life flipped upside down in July 2022. Born and raised in Cleveland, Ohio, Jim was founded on service to others and thinking about the ways in which he could improve the lives of people around him, crediting Saint Ignatius High School for this mentality. On that day in July 2022, Jim's mom and grandma were brutally murdered by his brother. When the fight turned for Jim, he credits his background in jujitsu for Jim's ability to stay alive. Really, though, the fight kept going after that horrific day. Each and every day, Jim aims to be consistent. From then on, Jim recognized all the more how precious time is. In his words, his advice to younger him would be to "smell the roses" more and to spend time on things that really matter (faith, community, service to others, friendship, love, connection). With his life entirely changed, Jim worked to emerge as his best self. He never backed down and worked feverishly on growth. Prior to the tragedy, Jim was a UFC manager, which expanded past just the UFC; Jim managed the legendary careers of Stipe Miocic, Anthony "Lionheart" Smith, and even Myles Garrett, among many others. Back on his feet, though admittedly never out of the waters from this horrible day, Jim strives now to empower women athletes with his representation group called BLOOM. Jim's mom was a massive sports fan and always advocated for women in sports, and Jim sees this work at BLOOM as a great way to build his family legacy and uplift his mother's passion. As one of the most humble, disciplined men, Jim Walter encourages all of us to live by one of the quotes that he reads each morning: "I love myself and the good things that are meant for me will come to me." Tune in to episode 75 to hear Jim Walter's bone-chilling story and how he is using his story as means to develop and carry on his family legacy, while also  inspiring female athletes throughout the world to keep chasing their dreams. Frankly, Jim inspires each and every person that he encounters; every person that knows Jim, loves Jim. He is THAT impressive. This is one of those episodes that you won't stop thinking about and will definitely listen to more than once.
