    Episode 2: Becoming Lena O'Ree

This week I talked about Lena O'Ree, one of New Brunswick's Greatest Pioneers for Change and a recipient of the New Brunswick Human Rights Award. She was born in 1914 but from a young age, she was a trailblazer, continuously advocating for Black Peoples' rights in her hometown of Saint John. I also wrote an article for CBC that goes into lots of detail about my experience portraying O'Ree in a play that I'm starring in called "WE WERE HERE". I must say it's a very blunt play so if you're content in believing the myths and lies surrounding the topic of racism, maybe go watch Fox News or something like that. I don't wanna spoil any more of the podcast/play/article for you so I'm going to leave you to listen/watch/read and reflect on the information you take in. However, before I go I want to say that it was such an honour to be apart of what will be a significantly historic event. The cast is made up of so many multi-talented individuals and it's a pity that Saint John, New Brunswick and Canada, in general, don't shine the light on these extraordinary people. Nonetheless, I'm glad that we are stepping into the future and moving forward as a society. We're certainly not where we were 100 years ago which is something to celebrate but on the other hand, we are not where we should be. Just because protests have decreased doesn't mean the fight is over, just because #BlackLivesMatter isn't trending on Twitter anymore doesn't mean that racial inequality has been solved. Keep on advocating for Black Rights' and educating yourself on this complex issue.
