In this episode, we are joined by Adi from Pangrok Sulap—a collective rooted in the punk rock spirit and the rural communities of Sabah. He shares what it means to build a life and artistic practice together, transforming local memories and shared struggles into powerful woodcut prints. This season expands on the theme of MoCA TAIPEI’s 2026 exhibition Withdrawal: Our Collective Existence, exploring how contemporary artists approach collectivity as a form of knowledge production, a strategy for survival, and an aesthetic practice. Formerly Curator of Exhibition and Learning at Centre for Heritage, Arts & Textile (CHAT), Hong Kong and Adjunct Lecturer of Applied Art Institute at National Yang Ming Chiao Tung University, Huang is an independent curator based in Taipei. Her curatorial research focuses on hybrid cultures, migration history, geopolitics, and the dynamics between nature, human beings and the environment. Guest | Adi Helmi Jaini Adi Helmi Jaini (b. 1989, Sabah, Malaysia) is a printmaker, spoken word poet, and art director based in Kota Kinabalu. He is part of Pangrok Sulap, a collective known for its woodcut practice and strong connection to community work. Much of his artistic journey is shaped through this collective—working together to carve, print, and create images that reflect shared experiences. Pangrok Sulap Pangrok Sulap, established in 2010 in Ranau, Sabah, is a dynamic art collective comprising artists, curators, writers, researchers, activists, musicians, graphic designers, and entrepreneurs. This diversity enriches their discipline, enabling them to run various activities and programs.
