#15 What it's like being a Filipino composer abroad ft. Jaimie Pangan

Ever wanted to compose music for film? In today's episode I chat with Jaimie Pangan. Jaimie quit her job at IBM to pursue her master's in film composition at USC (a difficult program that only accepts 20 students a year). I found her story intriguing when I came across it on a When in Manila. In this episode we talk about: Writing melodies for film vs. songs Her experience taking her Masters at USC What she learned from her professors Composing for film vs. composing for games The business of being a full-time musician Mindset of being a successful freelance musician Dealing with fears and insecurities We had a lot of fun chatting and even recorded a second part! Maybe I'll upload soon but for now please enjoy this episode with Jaimie. #14 I Released my Debut Album!

Last February 18, I released my first album out into the world. It's been two years of living and writing down my experiences. It's now been over a month since the album was released. I still have a lot of feelings from the album's release. I wanted to share some of those thoughts and feelings with you today.

#13 How to Create When You're Feeling Uninspired

How do you make things when you're in a rut or are feeling uninspired? Here are a few tricks or hacks, that really serve as reminders, for when you don't feel like making things but have to. I know I've used this in my own music practice. Sometimes it's all about showing up and sitting down to do the work THEN inspiration will come and find you.  Please do leave us a review on Spotify or Apple podcasts! It helps other people find the show as well.  If you would like to support the podcast, you can do so here: https://www.buymeacoffee.com/liankyla

    #11 Let's plan for 2022 so it doesn't suck!

My family and I like doing a year-in-review and planning session every year. This year, we're still in the middle of a pandemic so things are difficult. However, I hope this episode helps you reflect on what happened in the previous year and be able to find things to look forward to in 2022 :)  You can also download the PDF guide of this journalling session that I mention in the podcast here: https://www.buymeacoffee.com/liankyla/e/52341 If you would like to support the podcast, you can do so here: https://www.buymeacoffee.com/liankyla

#9 The Business and Healing Power of Songwriting with Trisha Denise

Trigger warning! This episode contains detailed talk of suicide around the 40 minute mark. Please be warned.  Today we have a very special guest on the podcast. She is a singer-songwriter and the woman who penned Belle Mariano's hit single Sigurado. She also has been releasing her own music since she was a teenager. She recently came out with her newest album called Piece of the Puzzle. A very good friend of mine, Trisha and I talk about how she got into songwriting, the struggles of being an artist on the internet in the 21st century, and the heartbreaking story behind her first EP called Sunshine.  Hope you enjoy this conversation I had with Trisha!  If you would like to support the podcast, you can do so here: https://www.buymeacoffee.com/liankyla

#8 Making for the Views or Streams vs. Self Expression [minisode]

These past two weeks, I've been practicing making content and music that I enjoy vs. always looking at the numbers and the metrics of what I create. This is a new style of podcast that I want to try out! More journal reflection.
