    Episode 166: Time out

    The Health Geeks reflect on their nearly 5-year podcast experience.  We have reviewed 92 books and have decided that we need some time to digest all that information.  We feel like we have completed an academic degree and joke about “graduating” from Podcast University. Join us as we share a fun conversation, remembering some highlights from this journey.  We are grateful for all the participation and guidance we received from so many.     Episode 159:  Forever Strong – PART III

    We’re continuing our discussion on Dr. Gabrielle Lyon’s book, “FOREVER STRONG: New Science-based Strategy for Aging Well” (2023). In this episode we focus on nutritional guidelines (WHAT). We explore the shifts between plant-based and meat-derived dietary recommendations over the years. We’ll take a historical journey to meet some key figures – individuals, corporations, and even the US government – who have influenced our understanding of nutrition. (EDUCATE) We also examine Dr. Lyon’s recommendations, which differ from current RDA guidelines, and aim to clarify these distinctions. Our discussion included some questions regarding Dr. Lyon’s perspective. Kristen shares her professional insights (LINK), particularly emphasizing: 1) the underutilization of dietitians within the medical system, and 2) the tendency of some influencers to continue to bash an outdated food pyramid.  Kristen, Eleanor, and Tim also discuss their protein intake and reflect on the challenges of meeting Dr. Lyon’s recommendations.
