  1. EPISODE 1

Mario Moussa on Business Anthropology and How it Shapes Workplace Culture

Meet  Mario Moussa, a management consultant turned award-winning author. His latest book, The Culture Puzzle, represents the culmination of over 75 years worth of expertise on an anthropological approach to workplace culture. Mario has taught at the world's leading academic institutions, with work published in the Journal of Business Anthropology.   With over a decade's experience applying anthropology to business contexts, Mario sits down with Brad Jennings,  a People and Change Director at Newton, to tackle the question: What is anthropology, and why should we care about it in the workplace?   In this first episode of our fourth season,  amongst other things, Mario and Brad discuss different organisational culture types. The two take us on a journey as they delve into how culture impacts employee attitudes and performance, asking: How can anthropology help organisations change?   Mario helps us understand how this often overlooked discipline can help us build better, more resilient workplace cultures and reminds us of the crucial importance of listening to our people, since they are the heart and soul of any organisation.   This season was inspired by the findings in our national workplace culture report.  Using the research as a launch pad for  some refreshing conversations with leading experts,  the episodes further unpack the biggest questions that organisations are facing today.  You can read the full report here https://www.newtoneurope.com/workplace-culture  Newton is a recognised specialist in strategic delivery across highly complex environments, brimming with people who have a passion for cracking really knotty problems. 2. EPISODE 2

Dr. Eliza Filby on the Intergenerational Workforce and Bridging the Age Divide

Meet Dr. Eliza Filby, academic, author, podcast host and visiting lecturer at King's College London. As a consultant and Doctor of British History, Eliza is a 'historian of contemporary values and generational dynamics' and specialises in 'Generational Intelligence'. Her well-documented background on the history of generations and ageing has made her a sought after media commentator for BBC News, Sky News, and BBC Radio 4, as well as a keynote speaker. And in 2022 she was awarded the Europa Forum's 2022 Millennial Leaders Award.    In this episode, she sits down with Darra Singh OBE, Public Sector Strategy Partner at Newton, to discuss the challenges around bridging the gap between the four generations working alongside each other in the workplace today.    Together, they look at how ageing and cultural shifts in the workplace present both points of tension and opportunity for businesses in the twenty-first century. But also how understanding the context, appreciating the value, and learning from the strengths of each generation is key to building a resilient, heterogeneous workforce.    Eliza urges employers to look at older workers as the future of their organisation, as much as they do with millennials and Gen Z. With a later retirement age and employees often choosing to stay in   work for longer, investing in their wellbeing and development is vital. As Eliza notes, companies need to recognize how the life cycle is changing and then create company policies that reflect that modern reality.   This season was inspired by the findings in our national workplace culture report.  Using the research as a launch pad for  some refreshing conversations with leading experts,  the episodes further unpack the biggest questions that organisations are facing today.  You can read the full report here: https://www.newtoneurope.com/workplace-culture Newton is a recognised specialist in strategic delivery across highly complex environments, brimming with people who have a passion for cracking really knotty problems. 4. EPISODE 4

    That's A Wrap, Season Four!

Newton Talks is back with an exclusive new episode after an enriching fourth season exploring what it takes to create and sustain an inclusive workplace how to bridge the gaps of an intergenerational workforce and the lessons businesses can learn from applying an anthropological lens to their office dynamics. For the first time, executive producers Michelle Bosa-Edwards and Kerry Harris take to the mic, joining host Brad Jennings to discuss their key takeaways from the latest season, and explore what each episode brought to the table as part of this wider conversation on workplace culture. Brad highlights how Darra Singh and Eliza Filby's conversation drove home the profound need for the over 40s to be considered and catered to in the workplace, just as much as younger generations.  Meanwhile, Kerry unpacks Brad's talk with Mario Moussa, drawing parallels between business anthropology "tribe" dynamics and Newton's own role as consultants. And Michelle reflects on being moved by Kate Haddon and Geffrye Parsons' discussion on allyship, sharing how she's become more conscious of how she can show up as an ally at work – from passively supportive to actively supportively, as Geffrye says.
