Light in Perilous Times — 2 Timothy 3 · Living in the Light Pt 3

Difficult times are coming, and Scripture told us so. In week 3 of Living in the Light, Pastor Benny Ferguson opens 2 Timothy 3:1-5 and Matthew 24:3-8 and three truths for living in the light in perilous times: darkness was predicted, discernment must increase, and hope must shine brighter. The purpose of biblical prophecy isn't to make us experts about the future but to make us faithful in the present. God didn't reveal these things to scare us. He revealed them to prepare us. So we don't deny the darkness and we don't fear it: we prepare for the day instead of predicting it, and we shine. “Not everything that sounds spiritual is spiritual. Not everything that is dressed up to look like truth actually is truth.” IN THIS MESSAGE00:00 Turn to 2 Timothy 3 and Matthew 2400:56 God is light, and you are light01:29 Living in the light in a darker world02:33 Where is all of this headed?03:30 More Scripture, not more speculation03:48 The purpose of biblical prophecy04:29 2 Timothy 3:1-5 - times of difficulty05:31 Paul's last letter06:13 Not to scare us, but to prepare us06:43 1. Children of the Light — Ephesians 5:8-10 · Living in the Light Pt 2

You were darkness, but now you are light in the Lord. In week 2 of Living in the Light, Pastor Benny Ferguson opens Ephesians 5:8-10 and 1 Thessalonians 5:1-11 and three marks of a child of the light: remember who you are, reflect the family resemblance, and remain ready. Jesus doesn't simply change where we go when we die. He changes who we are while we live. And because of what He has done, we're already accepted: we don't behave to become, we behave because we have become. “The world doesn't need Christians who are louder. Passionate Obedience — 1 Samuel 15:22 · Calvary Midweek

What are you passionate about? More to the point, what is God passionate about? On a Wednesday night at Calvary, Pastor Len Burdick opens 1 Samuel 15, where King Saul did most of what God asked, kept the best for himself, and called it worship. God's answer still stands: to obey is better than sacrifice. Four truths carry the message: God wants our obedience more than what we want to do for Him; He is looking for wholehearted obedience, not delayed, selective or partial; obedience is an expression of love; and obedience flows from relationship. “He loves our songs, but He looks for our surrender. He loves our praises, but He looks for our practices. He loves our words, but He looks for our willingness.” IN THIS MESSAGE00:00 Welcome — Pastor Len Burdick00:34 What are you passionate about?01:49 What God is passionate about (2 Chronicles 16:9)03:11 To obey is better than sacrifice (1 Samuel 15)04:19 1. God Is Light — 1 John 1:5-7 · Living in the Light Pt 1 of 6

Before we can learn to live in the light, we have to know the One who is light. In the first message of our new six-week series Living in the Light, Pastor Benny Ferguson opens 1 John 1:5-7 and the three truths everything else in the series will rest on: God sees what we cannot, God reveals what we need, and God calls us to walk in the light. Our eyes take in only a sliver of the light that is really there. The same is true spiritually — there is far more going on than we can see. The question isn't whether an unseen reality exists. The question is whether we will trust the God who sees all of it. “Reality is not determined by what we see. Reality is determined by what God sees.” IN THIS MESSAGE00:00 Open your Bibles - 1 John 1 and the series guide01:52 Living in dark and perilous times03:30 How much of reality are we actually seeing?04:52 The visible spectrum is a tiny fraction06:04 Could it be the same with our spiritual eyes?07:23 The headlines, the diagnosis, the unanswered prayer08:26 What if God promised something better than the whole road?08:49 1 John 1:5 - God IS light10:40 1. Grace doesn't just set people free — it produces people who change the world. Set Free Part 11: In Step with the Spirit | Galatians 5:16-26

There is a war going on inside every one of us. Paul names it plainly in Galatians 5: the flesh and the Spirit want opposite things, and starting to follow Jesus doesn't make that battle disappear. In Part 11 of our Set Free series, Pastor Kelli Ferguson walks through the conflict, the works of the flesh, and the fruit the Holy Spirit grows in a life lived close to Jesus - then shows what it actually looks like to keep in step with Him, one moment-by-moment choice at a time. "Fruit is the character of your life being shaped by the nearness of Christ."
