Brown Girl In Beijing

Dr. Baby

Hey guys! I’m Dr. Baby, the Brown Girl in Beijing! I’ve been in Beijing since the Summer of 2018 and it’s been a ride ever since. I’ve loved living in Beijing and while it is definitely different from my hometown of The Bahamas, it’s been a wild and wonderful ride. I wouldn’t trade it for anything in the world. And I’m here for the foreseeable future, so why not let you all get a look into the random and, sometimes, weird experiences that I have?

    The Traveling Therapists

Hello, good people! Well, this is the season finale! Already?! I know, I know. But, here it is. Today, I got to sit down with a new friend that I’d met less than a year ago. Kindall Tyson, M.Ed, LPC, NBCC, has been living in Beijing for the past few years. She works as a school counselor here and also has her own agency, Aspire Counseling and Wellness. Although we met last year, we didn’t really reconnect until after my episode on my mental health aired during season 2.  Once people were actually looking for therapists here in Beijing, I reached out to her to let her know that I’d be sharing her information with those that were interested. That’s when our friendship began. We went out for brunch, and now we’re checking in with each other and going out on friend dates. This friendship is definitely a breath of fresh air for me and it’s led me to other blossoming friendships with other Black women in Beijing. We do get a little emotional here, as well, but what’s a bit of tears between friends? We Three Bears - The Accent Challenge

Hey, y’all! Today, I’m joined by my shadows. They’re often in the peanut gallery, or even behind the camera(s), but they’re front and center with me for this episode! Meet Lolo and Zozo, two of my daughters here in Beijing. They talk a little bit about themselves and how they navigate the city as students, and then we get into the dialect and accent challenge. Admittedly, I get passionate at one or two points during the episode, but it’s all in love, and they still love me back, thankfully. Lolo hails from Antigua and Barbuda in the West Indies, while Zozo comes to us from Mozambique, South Africa, and Zimbabwe in Africa. We find that while we’re from two different parts of the world, our speech is still strongly linked to each other in some ways. Maybe we can try this again with more expats in a future season! *This episode was shot (and produced) by Sam of ReignConcept aka one of my sons.
