She helped to create the framework of this great non- profit organization that keeps the memory of Major League Baseball's first Negro player. As a genealogist, she has wonderful stories on discovering her own ancestry line, all the way back to the 1300's. She is a member of The Daughters of the American Revolution. They have had wonderful careers and is still contributing their spirits to the uplifting of humanity. Gasby Brown has lived a fulfilling life in many disciplines. She was a financial correspondent on television in New York,a professor, a nonprofit organization executive, and a public relations leader. She also have painted 600 paintings, being self-taught! She has worked for WNEW TV in New York, National Urban League, Green Peace and Washington National Opera Company. Leon Pinkney is a writer, an actor, speaker ", and an energy healing practitioner. Films that he has been in includes "Car Wash", "Aaron Love Angela" and "The Gambler". He is currently featured in "Delusional" on Amazon Prime.He has many Theater credits, including "What the Wine Seller Buys" produced and directed by Woodie King, Jr. You will love this episode... so informative yet fun! He founded the Association of Black Cardiologist 50 years, when there was only 2 Black Caridiologists in the United States. He founded the Minority Health Institute when it was not popular to talk of the health disparities between the races. He is an international on hypertension, healthcare disparities, diabetes, obesity,heart failures and sudden cardiac death. He was honored by the American Heart Association with their LifeSaver Award. Additionally... he is a renowned jazz trumpeter, who has worked or learned from some of the jazz icons of all time.     My guest on this episode are NY/NJ Port Authority manager and jazz vocalist, Steve Comity; and NYC Board of Education Administrator/Educator and Jazz drummer, pianist, percussionist and singer Eric Frazier.  Mr. Cromity poignantly relate his harrowing journey from the 73rd floor of the NY World Trade Center to safety after hearing the planes crash into the buildings on 9/11/2001. He did not realize the life threatening danger he was in  while descending those steps. It is a truly gut wrenching, powerful experience to have in ones life.  Mr Fraizer talks about his experience being a Principal in the NY Board of Education school system. He was a remarkably focused educator that made a difference with his students and staff.  Both  gentlemen got deeply entrenched in the New York jazz scene upon their retirement from their respective careers. It's a wonderful story about changing the downward trajectory of your life course, perseverance and setting goals, while being true to yourself. Enjoy! In July 2014, he returned to Piney Woods as the first alumnus to serve in this capacity. A trained University of Chicago and Harvard educator, he is also a lawyer and  Civil Rights expert, having served as a Senior Advisor in the Office for Civil Rights at the US Department of Education for President Barack Obama. His bully and outgoing personality make this a truly memorable, informative yet funny episode! Enjoy!!!     A must hear, simply marvelous episode of two sisters, Catherine Thomas, Esq and Dr. Claudia Thomas, MD. Catherine Thomas was a Civil Rights and International Business attorney, who was involved in some of the important civil rights cases in America. She is now a realtor in the Maryland area. Her sister, the 1st Black women orthopedic surgeon in the United States, was one of the student leaders of the successful takeover of the Vasser College administration building in 1969. It led to the Board of Trustees acquiescing to the black students 9 demands without getting expelled. Her example and mentoring has lead to now over 100 Black women orthopedic surgeons now in the United States. It is a story of wonderful parenting at a time Black had to breakdown barriers to education... a testament of wonderful, courageous parents of the 50's and 60's.
