"The One Jesus Loves" | Overview of John | Matt Carlson

What if the deepest truth about you isn’t how well you love Jesus, but that you are loved by Him? In this overview of the Gospel of John, we meet the eyewitness behind the story, discover why he wrote it, and trace the heartbeat of his Gospel: see Jesus for who He truly is, believe in Him, and receive the Life He came to give. John began as a hot-tempered “Son of Thunder,” but after a lifetime of being loved by Jesus, he came to describe himself simply as “the disciple Jesus loved.” That’s what grace had done to him. He was loved, and that love transformed him. If you’ve ever felt like you should be further along, have more answers, or try harder to become who God wants you to be, this message is for you. Come and see the Jesus John knew...the One who moves toward confused and imperfect people, loves them right where they are, and transforms them by His grace. What if we learned to see ourselves the way John did? The one Jesus loves. FOR GROUP DISCUSSION & REFLECTION: 1. John didn't define himself by his successes or failures, or even by his love for Jesus. He defined himself by Jesus' love for him: "the one Jesus loved." How do you tend to see yourself? And what would change in your everyday life if you saw yourself first and foremost as loved by God? 2. Matt drew a line between advice ("try harder, do more, maybe God will be pleased") and news ("something already happened"). Where have you lived in the exhausting, advice version of Christianity, where you're never enough and neither is God's grace? 3. John was a Son of Thunder who wanted to call down fire on a village, and he ended up the old pastor whose whole message was just love. Grace did that to him, not nagging. Where have you seen the difference between being pressured to change and being loved into it? 4. Every "I AM" names a hunger we're already trying to fill somewhere else: bread, light, a door, a shepherd. Which one lands on a place you've been striving to satisfy on your own? What would it look like to receive Jesus there instead of chasing it? 5. Almost nobody in John's Gospel understands Jesus the first time, and he keeps moving toward them anyway. Comprehension isn't the price of belonging. How does it sit with you that you don't have to have it all figured out to belong to him? + + + + + Hey, while you're here, please help Generation by clicking the 'Subscribe' button, then click on the BELL 🔔 (on mobile devices, also click 'ALL'). "Rescued to Rescue" | 2 Corinthians 5:13-21 | Tim Parlier

In this message, we explore how the gospel transforms us from those being saved into active agents of God's rescue mission. Drawing from 2 Corinthians 5, the sermon emphasizes that we are compelled by Christ’s love to no longer live for ourselves, but as "Christ Ambassadors" entrusted with the ministry of reconciliation. Just as Jesus sought out the lost, we are called to be available vessels, sent into our neighborhoods and workplaces to share the hope of the gospel and lead others back to Him. FOR GROUP DISCUSSION & REFLECTION: 1. What’s 1 thing you learned about the character of God through these scriptures?   2. The sermon described Jesus as the One who rescued us when we were spiritually stranded. What has "being stranded" looked like in your own life? How did Jesus rescue you? 3. What fears or assumptions most often keep you from talking about Jesus with others more freely? How might 2 Cor 5:13-21 help you face those fears?  4. Who is your one?  Who is God placing on your heart right now He wants to move through you to love and bless and guide towards Him?  5. What is one practical step you could take this week to begin (or continue) pointing them toward Christ? (Through both genuine love and the message of reconciliation.) + + + + + Hey, while you're here, please help Generation by clicking the 'Subscribe' button, then click on the BELL 🔔 (on mobile devices, also click 'ALL'). "Loved to Love" | 1 John 4:7-19 | Tim Parlier

Are you tired of feeling like you have to "fix" yourself before you can truly belong? In this message from 1 John 4, we explore how the gospel meets our deepest needs for community, strength, and purpose. Discover how being fully known and loved by Christ frees you from the burden of self-reliance and invites you into a life where His love flows through you to others. You were made for community, and your weakness is exactly where God's power works best. FOR GROUP DISCUSSION & REFLECTION: 1. What’s 1 thing you learned today about the character and nature of God?  Why is that significant to you? 2. Which of the three “types” from the sermon—Floater, Taker, or Fixer—do you most identify with, and why? How does the gospel specifically speak to that tendency? 3. Where have you personally experienced Jesus' love through another believer? How did that shape your faith? 4. 1 John 4:19 states “We love each other because He first loved us.” Why is this important for us to understand? 5. Who is one specific person God may be inviting you to intentionally love this week? What is one concrete way you can let Christ's love flow through you to them? + + + + + Hey, while you're here, please help Generation by clicking the 'Subscribe' button, then click on the BELL 🔔 (on mobile devices, also click 'ALL'). "Fully Known. Fully Loved" | John 10:1-10 | Tim Parlier

We all long to be fully known and fully loved, yet shame, fear, and the voices around us often lead us to hide...even from ourselves. Through the story of Scripture and Jesus’ words in John 10, we discover the Good Shepherd who knows His sheep by name, pursues us in our hiding, and replaces lies with life-giving truth. Because Jesus sees us completely and still chose the cross, we no longer have to perform, pretend, or earn an identity. In Him, we are safe, made new, fully known, and fully loved. FOR GROUP DISCUSSION & REFLECTION: 1. Have you ever had the feeling that nobody really knows the REAL you?  Describe the last time you felt that way and what was going on in your life at that time? 2. Adam and Eve hid from God after they sinned. What lie must they have believed to make them believe they needed to hide from Him?  3. Jesus says (John 10) that He speaks to His sheep AND YET there are “hire hands/false shepherds” that also talk to the sheep and try to direct them. Whose voice has shaped your identity or sense of worth in a way that contradicts God’s Word. 4. We "fully known and fully loved" in Christ. How does the cross prove that they are both true? 5. Revelation 2:17 says Jesus knows and has given us our REAL name. How might this reality change the way you live today?   + + + + + Hey, while you're here, please help Generation by clicking the 'Subscribe' button, then click on the BELL 🔔 (on mobile devices, also click 'ALL'). "No More Excuses" | Psalm 150 | Matt Carlson

Do you ever feel like you’re sitting on the sidelines of your own life, stuck in a cycle of worry, failure, or exhaustion? It’s easy to feel like praise is only for the "good days" or for those who have it all figured out. But what if praise isn't a performance, but it’s actually the key to your joy? In this message, we dive into Psalm 150 to dismantle the four common excuses that hold us back from experiencing God’s presence. Whether you’re navigating a "low valley" or simply feeling weary, discover why you are a "living sanctuary" and how the very breath in your lungs is an invitation to experience freedom. Join us as we explore how praise can change your perspective and remind you that, through the cross, your story doesn’t end in despair but it in victory. Talk It Over: 1. Which of the four excuses do you relate to most right now? "I don't know where... why... how... or who should praise God." What tends to keep you from living a life of praise? 2. The sermon described praise as something that completes our joy, not just fulfills a command. Can you think of a time when talking about something you loved actually increased your enjoyment of it? How does that change the way you think about praising God? 3. The message said we are now God's "portable sanctuary" because His Spirit lives in us. How would your Monday look different knowing you carried God's presence everywhere you went? 4. The cross and resurrection were described as God's "mightiest mighty deed." How does remembering what Jesus has already accomplished reshape your perspective on your current circumstances or struggles? 5. Psalm 150 ends with, "Let everything that has breath praise the Lord." What is one practical way you can "give your breath back to God" this week—in your work, home, relationships, or everyday routines? + + + + + Hey, while you're here, please help Generation by clicking the 'Subscribe' button, then click on the BELL 🔔 (on mobile devices, also click 'ALL'). The Risk of Being Known | John Lynch

In this teaching, John explores the transformative power of grace, authenticity, and the beauty of being truly known within a community. Discover how letting go of our masks and allowing others to bear our burdens can lead to a deeper healthy relationship with Jesus and others. Talk it Over: 1. John mentioned that we often hide because we aren’t convinced others will love us if they know the "truth" about us. Why do you think it feels safer to be "hidden and tidy" rather than "known and messy" within a church community? 2. The sermon highlighted that sin grows in hiddenness but loses its power when we bring it into the light of a safe community. Have you ever experienced the relief or freedom that comes from sharing a burden or a struggle with a trusted friend? 3. John said, "I want to earn your trust so I can protect your heart." As a small group or community, what are some practical ways we can earn each other’s trust and create a "safe enough place" for people to come out of hiding? 4. We often see our limitations as weaknesses to be fixed, but John suggested God gives us limitations specifically so that we can be loved by others. How does changing your perspective on your limitations—from "problems to fix" to "opportunities to be loved"—change how you interact with others? 5. Looking at Galatians 6:2 ("Bear one another’s burdens, and so fulfill the law of Christ"), what does it look like practically to "get up under and lift" someone else's burden this week? + + + + + Hey, while you're here, please help Generation by clicking the 'Subscribe' button, then click on the BELL 🔔 (on mobile devices, also click 'ALL'). "A Better Hiding Place" | Psalm 32 | Matt Carlson

What do you do with the things you’d rather nobody knew about? We all know what it’s like to carry guilt, hide our struggles, and wonder if we’ll ever feel truly free. In Psalm 32, David shows us two very different paths: one of covering, pretending, and slowly wearing down…and another of honest confession, complete forgiveness, and lasting joy. If you’ve been exhausted by trying to manage your image, outrun your past, or keep it all together, this message is an invitation to stop hiding and discover the freedom that’s already yours in Christ. Because the greatest hiding place isn’t where you keep your sin—it’s where Jesus has already covered it. Talk It Over: David isn't writing from inside the mess. He's writing after he came through it, and the first thing he wants you to know is what's on the other side: joy. Has there been a time you finally stopped hiding something and actually felt that relief, lightness, joy, on the other side of it? What was that like? The sermon named two options: hide it or bring it into the light. What's your default when guilt or shame shows up? Where do you think that pattern first got built? "Hiding from God doesn't protect you. It hollows you out." Has there been a season where you felt that hollowing, even in something small? What did it actually cost you to carry it alone? Confession got defined as agreement, not a transaction or a courtroom scene. Does that change anything for you? Is there something you've been managing instead of simply agreeing with God about? Verse 9 pictures an animal controlled from the outside. Verse 10 pictures unfailing love surrounding someone from every side. Which one more closely matches how your actual week with God feels right now, and why? + + + + + Hey, while you're here, please help Generation by clicking the 'Subscribe' button, then click on the BELL 🔔 (on mobile devices, also click 'ALL'). "God Is Our Safety" | Psalm 46 | Roman Saward

In this sermon on Psalm 46, Roman explores how God is our ultimate refuge in a chaotic world. While fear and loneliness often drive us to seek safety in our own strength, the Gospel reminds us that through Jesus, we are never alone or helpless. Because the Lord of Heaven's Armies is with us, we can stop our striving and find true rest in His power and protection. Talk It Over: 1. Roman used the metaphor of Dunkirk to describe feeling "unsafe." What are the specific "wars" or "mountains falling into the sea" in your life right now that make you feel vulnerable or overwhelmed? 2. We often feel unsafe because we believe we are alone, helpless, or unprotected. Which of these three lies do you struggle with most, and how does it manifest in your daily anxiety? 3. Psalm 46:1 calls God a "very present help in trouble." How does the reality of Jesus being *with* you—made possible through the Gospel—change the way you view your current circumstances? 4.  What "weapons" (control, perfectionism, overworking, etc.) are you currently using to try and create your own safety? What would it look like to "be still" and lay those weapons down this week? 5. Roman reminded us that because of Christ's victory, we have already won. How does knowing the "end of the story" help you find peace in the middle of your current "battle"? + + + + + Hey, while you're here, please help Generation by clicking the 'Subscribe' button, then click on the BELL 🔔 (on mobile devices, also click 'ALL').
