    On a side road in the small rural town of Troy, Ohio, the body of a young woman was found face down in a ditch. Her body was positioned in a manner that appeared to be staged by the perpetrator. She was placed in that ditch with her arms laid straight out and her bare feet crossed almost as if she was on a cross. Was this a symbol left by the killer? Was this a ritual or was it a way to ask for forgiveness? The unfortunate hurdle the police had to jump was who was this beautiful young woman and why would anyone want to kill her? The question of who she was was not answered for nearly 35 years after her death. She was known for all this time as the "Buckskin Girl", because of the buckskin jacket she was found wearing at the time. With the determination and hard work of a Detective who could not let it go and a large team of scientists she was finally identified as Marcia King. She was a young woman trying to find her way in life. She was a drifter who suffered from mental illness. Marcia left home from Arkansas and was last seen alive in Louisville, Ky. She was known to hitchhike and it appeared as if she may have been trying to get to a local religious group when she took a ride with the wrong person. She was badly beaten and strangled and left on the side of the road to die. Detective Hickey just had to keep going and he believes Marcia's Final Chapter will end with a conviction very soon. On a side note, this is also my Final Chapter of both my teaching career and this podcast. I will be retiring soon and I just want to say thank you to everyone that has helped us along the way.     In front of her two young children, Jillian Miles was ruthlessly gunned down. She was a wonderful mother who unfortunately had a hard time letting go. The father of Jillian's children was not exactly a law-abiding citizen and may have been a bit possessive, but he didn't want to be tied down to one woman, but Jillian was in love and wanted to make things work with him. Being a single mother is difficult and it is very expensive so Jillian had to find a way to support her family. Unfortunately, that meant she had to resort to illegal means to make ends meet. This introduced Jillian to a whole new world of bad individuals. One night an individual decided that Jillian was causing problems in their life of crime and it was time for her to go. Jillian had run out of ways to support her children and it cost her her life. She was just a young mother Trying Her Best.     Many people have to make money in different ways. Often, when things get tough they get into things they cannot get out of. Rebecca Lynn Carroll was a young woman trying to provide for her children but fell into a life of danger. As she tried to make ends meet, she met individuals with more deviant things in mind. To survive in that environment, you must become tough and sneaky to get what you need. These acts can then lead you into Dangerous Liaisons who have a different idea of what your role is in life. Rebecca unfortunately made the wrong connections that cost her her life. Due to some of her actions, Detective Thompson told us that within 500 yards at any time during the day, there was someone that possibly wanted her dead. One day it came true. She was shot and thrown into the river to be found several months later. She did not return to her kids and she was taken out of the business the hard way. To this day her crime is unsolved. Even though she lived a dangerous life, what happened to her was terrible and Rebecca Lynn Carroll deserves justice.     A young woman in a Columbus, Ohio apartment seems to be living her best life. She has graduated from The Ohio State University and is moving up in her job. Stacey Colbert was a happy young woman who lit up a room when she entered. She was blessed with many friends and they were more blessed to have her as a friend. Stacey enjoyed going out with her friends and coworkers to have a drink or a good time. One evening someone came to the door and being the wonderful human being she is Stacey let them in. Stacey was extremely nice, but she was also brilliant. If she thought the person was there to harm her she would have never let them in. Unfortunately, evidence proved that she either left in a hurry or someone took her. Stacey was last seen or heard from on March 22, 1998. Six years later in a field far away from her home, Stacey's skeletonized body was found. To this day Stacey's case is still unsolved, but those who knew her have not given up. Through a group known as "Finishing Stacey's Fight" friends and relatives have been working hard to keep her story out there and bring justice for Stacey. One day soon they will succeed and the Beauty Lost can then rest easy.     On September 1, 1974, a young woman storms out of the front door after a fight with her stepfather and disappears into the darkness. For 44 years the remains of a teenage woman went unidentified until 2018 when the remains were determined to be those of Linda Pagano. After being found on a riverbank near Cleveland, Ohio she went unidentified until one person decided it was time to find out who she was. Using genetic genealogy the mystery of where Linda had gone was solved. Now, what happened to her? That mystery still exists. We know she went to a concert with her boyfriend to hear the sweet sounds of Crosby, Stills, Nash, and Young and have fun. After returning home late, an argument with her stepfather ensued and like most teenagers, she rushed out the door to blow off steam. Unfortunately, a monster in the dark decided to take Linda out. With a shot to the back of the head, someone ended the bright future of a wonderful young woman. To this day Linda Pagano's case has gone unsolved and her story has Vanished into Time.     In a world where addiction is so easy to fall into it is no surprise when it leads to death. Many individuals who fall into this life get there in many different ways. The need to survive is overtaken by the need to escape the world that seems so cruel. The hunger for more is unbearable to the point where anything goes. Joan Palacio was a young woman just trying to survive the highs and lows of Dangerous Living. She was found in a vacant lot in the middle of the day in northern Ohio. She was seemingly thrown out with no regard for who she really was. Her lifestyle did not define the type of person she truly was. She was warm-hearted with a desire to be a good mother. Unfortunately, her addictive personality took away from her motherly personality and eventually led to her demise at the hands of an animal attacking its prey.     Some cases do not make sense. Franklin Benedict was a quiet young man who seemed to live a calm life. He was a former student of Kent State University who needed money, so he left school to become a Wal-Mart manager. He moved up the chain quickly because of his hard work and determination. Franklin liked haContactving money in his pocket so he often took on extra shifts at work, only this would be his last shift. On the night of July 8, 2015, Franklin would come home to a dark apartment. The electricity was not working in his apartment and while looking in the dark to check to see why it was off an intruder walked up behind Franklin unloading two shots into his body. The intruder had scaled the walls to his second-floor apartment to hunker down in his roommate's room until they could unleash their fury onto Franklin. So many questions about Franklin's murder remain unanswered. Why did the intruder hide in the roommate's room? Was Franklin the target? Why would someone go after such an Unusual Victim?     On a beautiful spring morning in May of 2008, the calm air of spring was disturbed by the heat and smoke of a house fire in Springfield, OH. The fire department rushed to the scene to put out the fire, but much of the house was engulfed with the flames. After fighting the fire the crew began to clean up the remains of the fire as the fire marshall made his way through the scene. Noticing something strange about the burn pattern the fire marshall began to think the fire was set intentionally. The rest of the crew continued to sift through the remains of the debris when Under the Rubble they found the badly burnt body of a young woman. The young woman was making a name for herself at her job. Her name was Alia Hartman and someone decided she had to go. The fire marshall ruled the fire an arson and the manner of death was ruled a homicide. To this day no one has been brought to justice for the brutal murder of Alia. She didn't seem to have any enemies, so who would want her dead, and who would go to the lengths to burn her in an arson? So many questions with no answers.
