No More Wahala, Inshallah is the brainchild of Kiwi-born Iraqi Australian, Ayah Sahib, and Nigeran American Australian, Eyitoritse Mojuetan. They laugh, cry, and rant about the things that make life as a POC that little bit harder; waking up, praying that there will be no trouble today. We would like to acknowledge the traditional owners of the land we are recording and residing on. We acknowledge that the land of so-called Australia was stolen, and sovereignty was never ceded. Christmas may have passed but Eid is on the horizon, so let's chat about the multiple Eids Muslim celebrate, and what it’s like for Ayah as an Iraqi-Australian diaspora kid. We also take a dive into the bizarre, random, hilarious, lowkey racist things Muslims experience around Christmas time. We chat about interfaith celebrations, the capitalist and secular nature of Christmas these days, and how ‘Toritse celebrates Christmas.     Episode 7: Criticisms, Silences, and the White Supremacist Agenda

    CW: Discussion of racialised violence, sexual violence, and patriarchy, discussion of Alan Kurdi. In this episode of No More Wahala, Inshallah we delve into one of the many complex positions white supremacy and patriarchy put women of colour in. We discuss why it is so hard and uncomfortable to talk about misogyny and patriarchy in our own cultures and ethnic communities more broadly to a white audience. We highlight the way white supremacy weaponises our criticisms of misogyny and patriarchy in our cultures and uses this to further their hatred and justify their racism against ethnic communities, and nations more broadly.     Episode 6: Protests, Risk, and the Racialisation of Violence

    CW: in depth discussion of violence and racialised violence, mentions of Black Lives Matter, End SARS, sexual assault, the Stolen Generations, and murder. In this episode of No More Wahala, Inshallah we explore protests and the greater risk BIPOC people face when engaging in civil disobedience. We discuss the policing of anger and the way people resist, and then dive into the judgement so-called progressive white people can pass on the choices BIPOC people make to survive. We touch on the Black Lives Matter movement, and discuss the markedly different responses the wave of anti-lockdown/general anti-COVID-19 restrictions protests happening here in Australia are receiving. This time we're here to chat about all things representation in the media. We unpack why it’s important to us and social structures more broadly, the reach Hollywood has, and the complexities of representation. We dish out some rare gems of good representation, and realise that “good” representation is not as clear cut as it seems. We highlight the many terrible tropes and narratives that exist about Africans, Black people, Arabs, and Muslims. So listen on to hear why we’re talking about lady parts, and a surprisingly good (non-racist) movie from the 80s!

    Episode 2: Position YOUR SELF 😤 [zoom edition]

    CW: discussion of interpersonal racism, race related stress, trauma, emotional abuse, and gaslighting. In this episode of No More Wahala, Inshallah we discuss the incredibly important idea of positionality (through the abyss that is a Zoom call). We cover what it means, how we position ourselves, how you can too, and why it is paramount to conversations of race and the racialised experience. From the suffocating way whiteness can shape the lives of BIPOC, to the draining nature of conversations about race, this episode hit a little too close to home for us. As such, we encourage all our BIPOC listeners to prioritise themselves and reach out to support networks for solidarity and comfort.
