Questions for God: Is Homosexuality Really A Sin

Marc begins by sharing about Forward City's Discipleship Pathway. Marc then leads us in a study and understanding of 1 Corinthians 6:9-10. Marc explains that despite the cultural time we live, Scripture speaks clearly about practicing homosexual acts. Marc clarifies that all of us are pre-disposed to various inclinations, and that this passage does not elevate any sin above another. Submission and obedience to Christ also means submission of the seemingly most inherent desires that we have.

Questions for God: Why Don't You Intervene?

Marc discussed the "problem of evil" and how God doesn't always intervene in our suffering. Marc shares that God’s will always entails some sort of mystery. Marc pointed out that to remove all suffering, God would need to either remove sinners from the world or remove our choice to obey. Neither of these options reflect God’s heart for his creation.

Questions for God: There's Only One Way?

Marc shared from John 14:1–6, explaining that Jesus is the only way to the Father. Jesus is not just another member of a pantheon; He is the revealed character of the God of the Universe. Jesus compassionately bears with sinful humanity to the point of his own death. This makes Jesus is worthy of exclusive worship and devotion as God and Saviour of all humanity.

Questions for God: Why Isn't Life Fair?

This week, Marc walks us through the Parable of the Workers of the Vineyard from Matthew 20. Marc also discusses the notes of Matthew 19, form Peter's discussion of the disciples reward for following Jesus. Marc encourages and challenges us to walk our own journey with Jesus. Rather than compare and look at what others are given, we must focus on our own walk to recognize and celebrate the blessings given to us. It is our role to follow Jesus with what he has given us today.

    Killing Our Idols

Marc spoke on the Israelites continuous struggle to get Egypt out of their hearts. Despite the Israelites having seen God's faithfulness through various miraculous moments, they struggled to have faith that God would give them the Promised Land. The Israelites continued to struggle with obedience because they had not had their hearts formed in such a way to remove Egypt and become Israel. Israel continued to struggle with building idols and losing faith by trusting the ways they used to know. Marc challenged us to continuously allow the Holy Spirit to evaluate our hearts and minds to rid us of our idols.

    Walking Through The Storm

Marc led us in celebrating communion together, reflecting on our need for Jesus. Spencer spoke from Matthew 14:22–33 where Jesus walks on the water in the middle o the storm. Spencer focused on Peter’s response to seeing Jesus, following him out onto the water, but eventually having doubt and falling. Spencer reminds us that faith means stepping out, but it also means “Fixing our eyes on Jesus, the pioneer and perfector of our faith.” (Heb 12:1)

    Acts 4: Proclaiming Christ

This week, Spencer shared from Acts 4, confronting the challenge to our Gospel boldness in this day and age. Spencer challenged us that unlike the early church, our obstacle to boldness is mostly not persecution, but distraction and comfort. Spencer unpacks the way in which Peter and the other apostles lived out faithfulness. They displayed the power of God while being above reproach, where the Sadducees could not find anything against them, and thus the message of Christ's resurrection could not be discredited.  Spencer challenged us to consider whether the Gospel is truly as important as we claim to believe. Is it enough for us? Do we believe it's enough for our family, friends, and neighbors?

Josiah: The Transformative Power of God's Word

This week, Ben shared on the story of Josiah, whose servants rediscovered the Law when excavating the treasures of the Temple. Ben shared about the need to repent and return back to God's word, allowing the Holy Spirit to shape us and our lives by it.
