Coming Back from Hermit Mode | The Journey Back Online

Have you ever been away from the world for so long that coming back feels like learning how to live in it all over again? For me, isolation has been a different kind of experience. I call it my hermit mode — a period of experiencing life differently, navigating my world with limited resources, and spending years with a phone as my primary connection to the digital world. Now, I'm finding my way back online, trying to reconnect with things I once created, ideas I once shared, and parts of myself I haven't had the opportunity to express in a long time. But returning isn't as simple as logging in and picking up where I left off.The platforms have changed. The familiar names are disappearing. Some of the things I remember no longer exist in the same way. I recently returned to recover my old podcast, Open Mic, only to discover that Anchor, the platform I used to create my show, no longer exists as it once did. Suddenly, finding my way back to something that was already mine became another journey of searching, learning, and trying not to give up.And honestly, there are moments when I feel like I can't go on.Not necessarily because I've stopped caring, but because sometimes the distance between where you are and where you're trying to get to feels exhausting.Imagine trying to reconnect with the world while you're still figuring out how the world works now. Imagine having the desire to create, to speak, to share your experiences, but finding yourself caught between what you remember, what has changed, and what you still have the capacity to do.That's part of what coming back means to me.I'm not returning with all the answers. I'm returning with questions, memories, unfinished projects, and the willingness to try again.Perhaps this is what Open Mic can become for me now: more than a podcast, but a space to document the experience of finding my voice again. This is me coming back from hermit mode — one connection, one discovery, one small step at a time.
