Aging While Black: The Mirror and the Mask: How Black Gay Men See Ourselves—and How the World Sees Us”

“He Said, He Said, He Said Live!” A Look at the World from A Seasoned Black Man’s Perspective…because one perspective isn’t enough!” for  Aging While Black: The Mirror and the Mask: How Black Gay Men See Ourselves—and How the World Sees Us” Friday, August 14, 2026 @ 7:00 pm He Said, He Said, He Said are taking our Aging While Black Series somewhere very personal. Alvin and Bobby are joined by three extraordinary Black gay professionals — GregWright of Baltimore / Jules Williams of Philadelphia / Maurice Scott of Washington, D.C. And we're asking some questions that may make you stopand look in the mirror yourself. How do you see yourself? Is that how the world sees you? What happens when you walk into a room as a successful Black gay man—and everyone in that room has already decided who they think you are? What about when that room is filled with your own people? And what happens to our friendships with straight menwhen they know we're gay? Do we really understand each other? Do some men feel threatened by gay men who don't fit the stereotype? And we're taking that conversation into the Red Dress Run and Red Dress Weekend, asking: We made it a moment. Do we owe it a donation? What happens when a community helps elevate a culture and energy around an event—and then starts asking where it sees itself in the impact? And after all these years of living, loving, working, leading, succeeding, and sometimes having to prove ourselves...  What have we finally learned about who we are? This isn't a conversation about labels. It's about perception. It's about identity, masculinity, friendship, success, authenticity, and the freedom that comes with getting older and finallybecoming comfortable in your own skin. Because for too long, other people have told our story. Five seasoned Black gay men. Five perspectives. One conversation you won't want to miss. Because one perspective isn't enough.
