#14 Cultivating Resilience : 12 tips to Cultivate Resilience

In this podcast I share some of my lived experience to help in the understanding of the topic of resilience. I define resilience here as "Learnings and mental, physical and spiritual fitness, gained from lived experience which helps you adapt, survive and thrive in tough and unexpected situations." I share 12 tips for cultivating resilience: 1. Recognising and accepting that Change is the only constant. Nature is always changing. We are a part of nature. 2. Practice doing hard things. Put yourself in challenging situations during good times. This builds muscle memory for the tough times. 3. Observe and learn from other resilient people. 4. Remember, the resilience that is in your DNA. It is a miracle you are here. You are the face of your tupuna. You come from resilience. 5. Practice going without. 6. Learn from nature. Observe nature. Mimic nature. 7. Rest and recover during the good times. You will need it in the tough times. 8. Understand your emotions. Focus on positive emotions. Learn to shift stuck negative emotions. 9. Build yourself an inner fortress and sanctuary. 10. Nourish your body with good organic food, movement and stretching 11. Spend time reading, listening to, researching and reflecting on...Ancient Wisdom. The ancients might have known a few things we don't! 12. Bridge the gap between knowledge and doing! If you like this podcast and want to dive deeper in person, reach out and experience some of this in nature on one of our Men's Wellbeing Retreats. www.theprovider.co.nz www.theprovider.co.nz/retreats www.facebook.com/provideradventures www.instagram.com/provider_nz

Wellbeing in Leadership : Pushing Reset

As a leader in your family, community, small or large businesses, you might  recognise that often, you are putting the needs of others before your own wellbeing. Sometimes the best thing you can do, to serve others, is to take a step back to recharge the mind, body and soul. This podcast explores the importance of taking a step back to recharge from time to time, in order to be an effective leader.  We talk to Aaron, on the last day of his bespoke 12 day Men's Wellbeing Retreat. The Provider Podcast explores Men's Wellbeing, including diet, movement, mindset and spirituality - and our connection to nature. Provider Men's Wellbeing Retreats reconnect men back to the healing power of nature, through an immersion in the landscapes and seascapes of the Coromandel Peninsula, New Zealand - fishing, diving, hunting, cooking, talking, walking, broga, meditation, learning and breathing.  Participants in our retreats find they have positive shifts in mental health, body weight, increased resilience, moving from fixed to positive mindset and opening space in their lives to attract positive opportunities. Dr Nic Gill : Strength and conditioning coach for the All Blacks

Last night I had a yarn via video link, with one of the many charter clients of mine I consider to be a bloody good man. Dr Nic Gill has had a long tenure with the best team on the planet, the All Blacks , as their strength & conditioning coach. Gilly gives us an insight behind the scenes of the AB's. We also yarn about fuelling your body with the right kai, about managing stress and about how to stay well and resilient in tough times. In addition to working with the AB's Gilly is also an avocado grower, an Ironman, an author, and associate professor of the The University of Waikato and a bloody keen hunter and fisho. Enjoy! (And go the AB's this weekend!)

Foraging and Fishing with Peter Langlands

I have a yarn with New Zealand's foremost expert on FORAGING, a great tool to add to your resilience toolkit. Peter Langlands from Wild Capture - wild foods and foraging - NZ shares his vast knowledge on foraging, and we talk broadly about nature as our source of wellbeing. There's a lockdown challenge at the end, so drop your answer in below. Peter wears many hats, he runs foraging tours, collects foraged foods for some of New Zealand's top restaurants like Amisfield , has been a trout fishing guide, produces his own trout guides, plus writes for NZ Fishing News . He's also been an observer on commercial fishing boats over the years, and consulted to DoC so.... there's plenty to yarn about! Enjoy!

Scott Macindoe, Legasea, Recreational Fishing & Mangaakitanga

Scott Macindoe is definitely someone who embodies the word Provider. Scott could easily have put up the gone fishing sign a long time ago, but he has chosen to continue his hard work and use some of his success in the business world to help fix New Zealand's fisheries management. He is a founder and driving force behind Legasea, an organisation striving to restore and protect New Zealand's abundance. He stands for all our rights to catch and eat fish fresh from the ocean without corporate New Zealand getting involved. Some things we talk about in this podcast: -Where does our food come from? -The Kai Ika project -Are public servants acting fast enough to protect our abundance? -The scallop rahui -Rescue Fish -Self esteem -What does being a Provider mean? -Mangaakitanga Enjoy the listen!
