    SOUL DEJECTION BY GEORGE WHITEFIELD

    Another George Whitfield sermon, entitled Soul Dejection, this sermon is based off of Psalm 42 written by David. Verse one reads as a Hart or Deer panteth after Water-brooks, so my soul panteth after Thee O Lord, and it goes on to say why is my soul cast down, but many of our fast food, freewill friends have no idea how to use the psalms because they use the third use of the law which means that they’re getting the booster shot from the Holy Spirit to follow the law, but in reality the law can only condemn, as Jesus says in Matthew 23 the law is to be used to clean the inside of the cup, that we might see the evil black cat in our heart and repent over it before it escapes and then we won’t need to clean the outside of the cup. David writes in Psalm 38, rebuke me not in Thy wrath O Lord, nor chasten me and Thy hot displeasure, for thine arrows stick fast in me, and Thy hand presses me sore, for there’s no soundness in my flesh, because of thine anger, no rest in my bones because of my sin: Here David is seeing his original is sin, that his original sin is sin before the evil black cat escapes. So if we use the law properly, Jesus said, blessed are the poor in spirit for theirs is the kingdom of God. In order to be a Christian we have to be poor in spirit otherwise the kingdom of God will not be ours. Blessed are those who mourn and mourn over what, but over our original sin and they shall be comforted. So the law demands perfection and perfection throws us to the feet of Jesus, crying out for mercy in order that we might find Grace. So when our soul is dejected, we can find a psalm that matches how we feel and we do not let any crisis go to waste. We immediately go to the psalms and find what Psalm matches where we’re at and then we begin to memorize it because we’re so overwhelmed, with maybe world persecuting us, or our own sin nature tempting us, that our soul is dejected and so we go to God, and do as David did, he says in psalm 42, why is my soul cast down, so you explain that to the Lord and so we don’t need to go to a psychiatrist, we go to the psalms whenever we’re overwhelmed with the evil forces from the outside or the evil in our own heart. The psalms are a perfect way to pray and George Whitfield totally understood this and thus entitled this sermon Soul Dejection and in psalm 42 King David talks about his dejection. King David talks about his dejection and his soul is cast down, but then later on he says, then I remembered the Jordan then we remember all the things that God has done for us and we go from our soul being cast down to our soul being lifted up. Listen to the sermon over and over and you’ll find many nuggets of truth in this sermon may the Lord bless the hearing of this sermon to your souls.

THE POINT IS WE ALL KNOW THIS IS TRUE AND IF SOMEONE DENIES IT WE KNOW THAT THE PERSON IS LYING OR MORE IMPORTANTLY IS LYING TO HIM OR HERSELF. THUS WE AS AMERICANS ALL KNOW WE ARE FORNICATORS AND ADULTERS BY NATURE. IT IS A SELF EVIDENT TRUTH 9: ARE WE ALL AS AMERICANS THIEVES BY NATURE? YES OR NO. IF SOMEONE DENIES BEING A THIEF BY NATURE DOES THE THOUGHT OF GOING AROUND THE SCANNER EVERY ONCE IN AWHILE OR THE THOUGHT THAT SOMEONE ELSE WOULD GO AROUND THE SCANNER ENTERS OUR MIND PROVES WE ARE THIEVES BY NATURE. AND WE COULD GO ON AND ON. ​IF WE LIARS BY NATURE CAN WE BE ADMITTED INTO HEAVEN?

    CONVERSION AND REPENTANCE BY GEORGE WHITEFIELD

    The George Whitfield sermons are worth listening to many times over, this one especially entitled: Repentance and Conversion. Many people believe that George Whitfield was completely extemporaneous, but he wasn’t. His sermons were typically meticulously written out with each word perfectly placed Benjamin Franklin would print his sermons. Not only was each word perfectly chosen by George Whitfield, but each paragraph most of the time has a golden nugget in it. Many times a verse or a part of a verse that he doesn’t say is a verse, he puts into the sentences and those of us that have read Bible s recognize those scripture in his sentence. A lot of us will recognize those sentences to be part of a verse and then he has a theme that runs through that particular sermon and he tells you what the theme is going to be. It is much like some of our better written movies for example, take the movie Patriot, there are certain things like the north star is placed throughout the movie; that my sins will revisit me is throughout the movie; moral rectitude of the cause is throughout the movie, that it was the cause of the revolutionary war that they were fighting for, that was the motivating factor they hung unto, for it was a just cause. The same is true, in a more recent movie, entitled, All the Light We Cannot See. In this movie as well as the the movie, Braveheart by Randall Wallace, they were in the making for about 10 years, but what made them good were the themes carried throughout the movie and the perfectly placed words throughout. George Whitfield is completely on the spiritual side of things but he uses a lot of those same principles to make his sermons powerful. George WHITEFIELD knew he was speaking to dead fish and dead fish can’t hear as they are floating downstream to the falls of perdition. George WHITEFIELD knew as did Paul that preaching the true gospel, is foolishness, for the dead fish can’t make himself born again, and neither can Paul nor George WHITEFIELD make a dead fish a live fish, for both the hearer and the preacher are 100% dependent on the supernatural intervention of Jesus, yet they are exhorting the dead fish to believe when the dead fish cannot hear no more than Lazarus could hear that Jesus say, Come Forth, until Jesus first made him Alive. So the point is, if George WHITEFIELD is a little over your head, it’s worth listening to those sermons 5-7 times maybe even 10 times and each time you will begin to understand more what he is saying and how he makes Predestination doctrine come alive and not a dead Calvinism.

    THE FAMILY PT. 1:THE WOMAN WE AS MEN SHOULD NOT CHOOSE, FOR GOD’S WIFE FOR MEN IS MIRACULOUS

    If the destruction of the family in America does not terrify John Q public of America, it should, for the family is the building block of our American nation. The family is a mini nation. It is the first government that our children will know and when that government fails, it’s a blow to our children. It’s a blow to our nation. Each divorce is a critical blow to the country and we as John Q public of America must ask ourselves, how is it that from 1620 to 1860 that the divorce rate was less than 5% and answer to that question is because the laws were such that in order to get a divorce it was very hard to get that divorce, which is the way it should be because none of us Americans want to see families self-destruct. It’s a mini nation !!! We don’t want to see America self-destruct, for the family is the bedrock of America. It is the building block of America so we should change the laws back to what they were in order to protect the family and if couples know that it is very difficult to get out of a marriage, they will be more careful in who they marry and they will call on God more readily to get them the right mate. Living together was forbidden, in early America because living together is condemned in the Bible for fornication is condemned. In 1860, at the time of Abraham Lincoln, the divorce rate was about 3%. The divorce rate was getting close to 10% and by the 1920s it was into the 20% by 1985. It was over 50% Reagan in 1969, I believe, signed into law the no fault divorce and he said it was the worst mistake that he ever made. For the laws have to be such that they protect the family, and that each mini nation will work out whatever problems they have except for extreme cases, and our laws must make it such that it is very difficult to get out of the marriage for our children want and desire to have their own parents and so in this message we begin with the Genesis of the family and what is the genesis of the Genesis of the family, but it is for the husband or the future husband, that is, to choose a wife that is going to be his help meet or help mate, for the husband is the leader of the family. Eve was made out of the rib of man. If Eve was to be equal with Adam, she would’ve been made out of the dust of the ground. The wife is to be the help mate of the husband and not vice versa and the husband is to be the breadwinner. The women today have the majority in the college which means they’ll probably will be getting the better jobs which means that they will earn more money and then become the bread winner and the man becomes the help mate with the part time job. It is God that must put the two couples together this message emphasizes who not to marry, and we talk about several different characters in the Word of God who ended up in an adulterous affairs, and we also speak about parents who did not control their child who had the strong Will who normally is the future leader maybe they even the country and how if that child is not disciplined, can bring shame not only to the family but to the country especially the country, if our leaders have children that are out of control and so hopefully this message will help us to have more clarity on how to choose a wife and how to be very very careful of getting involved in fornication or adulterous affairs. Hopefully this message will make us American men much more aware of how critical it is that we go to God to find the perfect mate for ourselves.

For these he prayed (Jn. 17:9), and not for the world. For these elect ones, and these only, he is now interceding, and with their salvation he will be fully satisfied. I purposely omit making any further particular remarks on the several last pages of your sermon. Indeed had not your name, dear Sir, been prefixed to the sermon, I could not have been so uncharitable as to think you were the author of such sophistry. You beg the question, in saying that God has declared, (notwithstanding you own, I suppose, some will be damned) that he will save all— i.e., every individual person. You take it for granted (for solid proof you have none) that God is unjust, if he passes by any, and then you exclaim against the "horrible decree": and yet, as I before hinted, in holding the doctrine of original sin, you profess to believe that he might justly have passed by all. Dear, dear Sir, O be not offended! For Christ's sake be not rash! Give yourself to reading. Study the covenant of grace. Down with your carnal reasoning. Be a little child; and then, instead of pawning your salvation, as you have done in a late hymn book, if the doctrine of universal redemption be not true; instead of talking of sinless perfection, as you have done in the preface to that hymn book, and making man's salvation to depend on his own free will, as you have in this sermon; you will compose a hymn in praise of sovereign distinguishing love. You will caution believers against striving to work a perfection out of their own hearts, and print another sermon the reverse of this, and entitle it "Free Grace Indeed." Free, not because free to all; but free, because God may withhold or give it to whom and when he pleases. Till you do this, I must doubt whether or not you know yourself. In the meanwhile, I cannot but blame you for censuring the clergy of our church for not keeping to their articles, when you yourself by your principles, positively deny the 9th, 10th and 17th. Dear Sir, these things ought not so to be. God knows my heart, as I told you before, so I declare again, nothing but a single regard to the honour of Christ has forced this letter from me. I love and honour you for his sake; and when I come to judgment, will thank you before men.

    “It is God wounds the soul, and it is he that heals it; has he wrought in thee not only a deep and humbling sense of the outward acts of sin, but a humbling sense of the inward corruptions of thy heart? has he led thee be­yond the streams, through the powerful opera­tions of his Spirit, to the fountain head?” NUMBERS xxiii. ver. 23.‘According to this time it shall be said of Jacob and of Israel, what hath God wrought?’ WHEN I read you, my dear hearers, these words; when I consider what occasion, and by whom they were originally spoke, I cannot help thinking of that trium­phant expression of the royal Psalmist, Why do the heathen rage? When Pontius Pilate and the Jews conspire to destroy the cause of God, he that sitteth in heaven laughs them to scorn: the Lord not only has them in derision, but over­rules even their malice and violence (no thanks to them) to promote that very cause they at­tempted to destroy; so that 'tis a very wrong maxim, and argues great ignorance in us, to imagine that God never brings about his de­signs by the means and instrumentality of wicked men. This is the Papists objection a­gainst the reformation: great pains have been taken to blacken the reformers, and to make it believed that a reformation could not be good that was begun by people of bad charac­ter, and a king of an immoral life. But so far is this from eclipsing, that it illustrates the wisdom and goodness of divine Providence, in obliging the wicked to do what they never designed, and over-ruling their counsels for the fulfilling God's holy, wise, and sovereign decree. Now hath God wrought in you? hath even given this conviction to you; not a little flight now and then, or a qualm of thy conscience; the devil and natural con­science may do this; but when it is wrought in thy heart by the Spirit of God, it goes to the bottom, the arrow sticks fast, and a poor soul sometimes endeavours to pray, endeavours to pull it out, but in vain. Hath God wrought this in thy soul? now when God works this change in the soul, the devil is always busy in tempting the poor convicted sinner to despond if not despair. Ignorant formalists, who are some of the worst people under heaven, when a person is under conviction, think the devil is got into them, whereas the devil is in them­selves; for the devil hoodwinks people, and he endeavours to persuade them, that there [...] no harm done to God by sinning against him. It is God wounds the soul, and it is he that heals it; has he wrought in thee not only a deep and humbling sense of the outward acts of sin, but a humbling sense of the inward corruptions of thy heart? has he led thee be­yond the streams, through the powerful opera­tions of his Spirit, to the fountain head? when he has done so, then are we Christians indeed; and this cannot be the work of the devil, who never did, nor do I know whether he can, show a person the inward corruptions of his heart; it must be the Spirit of God: the devil may frighten a person, as to outward things, but I very much question whether it is in the power or will of the devil to show a person that he is totally depraved, that the whole fountain is corrupt; this cannot be, because this would make the devil omnipotent, of equal power with the Holy Ghost, who alone shows thee the guilt and corruption of thy heart. This I have found to be the fact, from thirty years observation and experience of thousands, thousands, thousands with whom I have spoken about their hearts.
