    95. This Week in Asian American Politics: The New York Times Profile on "Saving" NYC's Chinatown, Auto Workers Strike, Asians Hiding Asianness, Hasan Minhaj Expose

This week in Asian American news: We cover a NYTimes article that profiling some young Asian Americans in Chinatown. Aaron, an organizer in that same Chinatown, has some thoughts. One of the country’s oldest unions, United Auto Workers, goes on strike! They get the big 3 manufacturers play whack-a-mole with the plants and boy do GM, Ford, and Stellantis miss every mole. A new Pew study finds that among Asian Americans, those who are young, 2nd gen, and…Democrat? are more likely to hide their culture and identity. We try to figure out why peopl are still coming up with studies like this. The New Yorker drops a bombshell of an interview with Hasan Minhaj that has the internet in an uproar: the man exaggerates in his stand-up! As comedians, we discuss the ethics of lying in one’s jokes.  - WHAT'S  POLITICALLY ASIAN PODCAST? -- We're two Asian American comedians talking about politics and the Asian American community to get more Asians talking about politics! 94. This Week in Asian American Politics: Asian Am. Tech Company Exploits Asian Workers Online, Making Zines About ATL's Cop City Is A Crime, Oprah's Hawaii Donations, the IRS Goes After Millionaires

This week in Asian American news: We cover Scale AI, an Asian American-founded tech company that outsources the AI training to workers in Asia (particularly Nepal, India, and the Philippines). Filipino workers speak out about these “digital sweatshops.”  In Georgia, RICO indictments seek to paint the Stop Cop City movement as a massive criminal enterprise. Police are citing use of words like “mutual aid,” “zines,” and “collectivism” as proof of criminal conspiracy. Ok, Sherlock Holmes. Billionaire Oprah donates 10million to Maui relief efforts. Native Hawaiians point out that it’s only .5% of her wealth (roughly $16 for the average American) and that she owns almost half as much land as what was burned in the fires.  And finally the IRS plans to actually do something cool: go after nearly 1,600 millionaires who owe a loooooot in taxes—upwards $250,000 each.   -- WHAT'S  POLITICALLY ASIAN PODCAST? -- We're two Asian American comedians talking about politics and the Asian American community to get more Asians talking about politics! 93. This Week in Asian American Politics: Japan Releases Radioactive Water into Ocean, the Republican Primary Debate, NY Dept. of Labor is SO Behind on Stolen Wages, Asian Glow? Cancer Says Hello

This week in Asian American Politics! Japan plans to release treated water from the Fukushima nuclear plant disaster. Japanese officials say the radioactivity is “negligible,” which is like your waiter saying they got “most” of the bugs out of your salad. Our favorite circus was in town last week: the Republican primary debate! We discuss the performance of some of the candidates and who DEFINITELY did debate club in high school. The NY Department of Labor has failed to recover $79 million in stolen wages. It’d be nice if we could get away with not doing 63% of our jobs.  And lastly, if you turn red when you drink alcohol, you’re 40-80% more likely to develop certain cancers. It’s like we’re human traffic lights, and our bodies are telling us to stop lol. -- WHAT'S  POLITICALLY ASIAN PODCAST? -- We're two Asian American comedians talking about politics and the Asian American community to get more Asians talking about politics! 92. This Week in Asian American Politics: Changing Races to Asian through Lofi Music, Nikki Haley & Vivek, Viral Copwatchers on Youtube, Jollibee Wage Theft, Twitter Loses Advertisers and Sues CCDH

This week in Asian American news: We dive into the world of people who think they can change their race, specifically to Asian. And they believe listening to certain Youtube videos can help. Has Lo-fi Hip Hop Anime Chill Beats to Study and Relax To gone too far?  Two Indian Americans, Nikki Haley and Vivek Ramaswamy, are running for President. We discuss how they handle the whole “running as a brown person when your party hates brown people” thing. While most of us can agree influencers are kinda annoying and usually when you hear about YouTubers, it’s giving some kind of apology, we learn about the world of cop-watchers or “auditors” and how they’ve held police departments accountable. Praxis!  Jollibee in NJ is not so jolly after allegedly firing workers who asked for better working conditions. Those better working conditions? A mere $3/wage increase. Champion of free speech, Elon Musk, sues a non-profit for posting facts about how hate speech is up 200% on Twitter since he took over the platform. -- WHAT'S  POLITICALLY ASIAN PODCAST? -- We're two Asian American comedians talking about politics and the Asian American community to get more Asians talking about politics! 91. This Week in Asian American Politics: 70th Anniversary of Korean War, Challenges to Legacy Admissions Part 2, Florida "Both-Sides" Slavery, Netflix Looks For AI Product Managers to Exploit Actors

This week in Asian American politics,  Many Americans don’t know that the Korean War is still ongoing. On the 70th anniversary of the war, advocates push for a formal end, which seems like a fantastic birthday present.  With the death of Affirmative Action, many now turn their attention to legacy admissions. The Education Department has opened a civil rights inquiry into Harvard’s, positing the question: what will happen to all the Asians that DID make it in?  Speaking of education, Florida passed some new standards to teach Black History, but skipped over consulting a literal volunteer force of Black educators, which probably explains why the standards say “[enslaved people] developed skills which, in some instances, could be applied for their personal benefit.” And last, as the WGA/SAG strikes wage on against AI, Netflix posts a product manager role for AI and machine learning with a salary band of $300-900k. We lay out an argument for why you probably shouldn’t apply for this. -- WHAT IS POLITICALLY ASIAN! ? -- We're two Asian American comedians talking about politics and the Asian American community to get more Asians talking about politics! 90. This Week in Asian American Politics: Asian Am. Tech Worker Sues for $20 Mil, Voter Restriction Laws Affecting Asians, Hindu Nationalism in USA, Chinese Scientists Leave America, Writer's Strike!

ANNOUNCEMENT: We’ll be moving to a bi-weekly cadence in regards to episodes because life has gotten very busy and we want to make sure that we keep this sustainable for us. THANKS! This week in Asian American news: An Asian guy sues his company for discrimination after they fire him despite his 22 years working there and developing a $1 billion product. He claims they banned speaking Mandarin and made rice jokes. Republicans get creative with laws to target people who assist others in voting. Asian Americans who help grandpa read a ballot or hand an aunty some water can now fear a fine as big as $50,000. Hindu nationalism isn’t on the rise in just India, it’s also on the rise in the United States. We discuss the parallels between Hindu nationalism and Christian nationalism. Chinese scientists are fleeing America thanks to the fallout from the China Initiative, an effort that sought to “weed out” (non-existent) Chinese spies. Relatedly, China overtook the US in most-cited publications. Hm. And lastly, Hollywood execs say they hope to wait out writers until they lose apartments and houses. Meanwhile, SAG-AFTRA announced actors are now on strike with the WGA, the first strike together since 1960.  -- WHAT'S POLITICALLY ASIAN PODCAST? -- We're two Asian American comedians talking about politics and the Asian American community to get more Asians talking about politics!
