The Tailgate Podcast: Refs Suck... Nuff Said

We welcome back OG Tailgater Devin on this week's show! We broke down the Week 2 NFL action, including thoughts on the Chiefs meltdown in Baltimore on Sunday night as well as Aaron Rodger's bounce back and the exciting Sunday afternoon slate that saw 3 games come down to the wire within a few minutes of each other. We got into some picks for college football this weekend, with Oklahoma State fan Devin and Kansas State fan Duncan discussing the Big 12 opening matchup between their teams. Officiating in football was "Thrown On The Grill" as all of us are fed up with the inconsistent and just overall terrible calls. Finally, we toasted Lisa Byington, new Milwaukee Bucks' play-by-play announcer, for being the first female full-time play-by-play announcer for a major men's pro sports team.Apple: https://apple.co/2QCEVQrGoogle: https://bit.ly/3gJxyScSpotify: https://spoti.fi/32V8vDATwitter: @TailgateKCPN

    Discount Double Choke!

Tailgate is back and all together again as Ty has found the house and was eager to talk some football! The three of us went over our NFL picks from last week, with each of us going 3-2, and then made picks for this week's games. We also dove full on into the action from last weekend, discussing potential Week 1 overreactions. We had some big college matchups to get into as well, including Iowa's huge win over Iowa State. Our toast was to a speedy recovery and hopefully a late season comeback for K-State senior QB Skylar Thompson after a heartbreaking knee injury potentially ended his final campaign in Manhattan. Finally, for our "Throw It On The Grill" segment, we each chose a storyline from NFL's Week 1 that merited being thrown down, Ty the Packers, Aaron Matt Nagy, and Duncan the AFC North.Apple: https://apple.co/2QCEVQrGoogle: https://bit.ly/3gJxyScSpotify: https://spoti.fi/32V8vDATwitter: @TailgateKCPN

    That Rat Bastard Strikes Again!

The Tailgate is at it again, albeit sans Ty as he and his lovely bride, Dawn, are looking at homes for themselves and little Archie to settle into. But Aaron and Duncan are holding it down, and we've got some breakdowns and pick'ems for this weekend's NFL matchups, as well as each of our Super Bowl predictions(Ty gave his picks beforehand, so we've got his too!). We touched on some of the games from last weekend's college football action, as our teams, Iowa, Michigan and Kansas State each had statement wins to start the season. We were happy to revisit a bit from last year and mix it in with a newer segment as That Rat Bastard, Notre Dame coach Brian Kelly, found himself "Thrown On The Grill" for his boneheaded and forced attempt to recreate a classic quote by John McKay to explain how he felt about his team's performance. To finish off, we toasted former UCF QB McKenzie Milton for coming back from a devastating and potentially career-ending knee injury and playing snaps down the stretch for Florida State in their loss to Notre Dame, as well as a toast to Kelby Telander, who was an Iowa kid captain over a decade ago as his family sought a Cochlear implant so he could hear again, to now being in uniform for the Hawkeyes on Saturdays as a preferred walk-on.Apple: https://apple.co/2QCEVQrGoogle: https://bit.ly/3gJxyScSpotify: https://spoti.fi/32V8vDATwitter: @TailgateKCPN

    NFL Talk From Cinder Block

The Tailgate dudes are back! We are proud to be hosted this week by Cinder Block Brewery in North KC and joined on the show by Cinder Block's Matt Estes! Today we have our NFL Divisional breakdown, as Matt joins us in making our picks for who'll win each division. As per usual, Ty is feeling bolder than the rest of us and has a couple shockers. We touched on some of the major matchups of ranked teams coming up this weekend in college football, as well as K-State headed down to Jerry World in Dallas for a big non-con tilt with Stanford. After an embarrassing 58-0 loss by high school program Bishop Sycamore to powerhouse IMG Academy being nationally televised on ESPN's high school football kickoff this past weekend, we threw ESPN and scheduling group Paragon for not doing their due diligence on the seemingly illegitimate and massively shady Bishop Sycamore program and allowing them to be featured on the Worldwide Leader. Finally, a toast to the Royals' Salvador Perez, for continuing his career year with 6 homers in his last 7 games including grand slams in back to back games.Apple: https://apple.co/2QCEVQrGoogle: https://bit.ly/3gJxyScSpotify: https://spoti.fi/32V8vDATwitter: @TailgateKCPN

Was That Heaven? No, It Was Iowa

The Tailgate fellas are feeling the need to crack open some "Shot-Gun" Headlines after technical issues rendered last week's show "The Episode that Never Was: Edition 4.0"! We were excited to have a full week of preseason and broke down the action, particularly the play of the rookie QBs. Iowa native Aaron and the boys were excited to discuss the 'Field of Dreams' game played in Dyersville, Iowa between the White Sox and Yankees last week, featuring a ton of homers and some great nostalgia for the Kevin Costner classic. For a 3rd time, the NCAA was "Thrown On the Grill" for basically deciding it isn't their place to punish a program for players committing sexual misconduct in the wake of their light punishment on Baylor football for the many cases of rape committed by players last decade. Finally, a toast to Iowa football legend, and first Black All-American at Iowa, Duke Slater as he was given long overdue accolades of being inducted into the Hall of Fame and the Field at Kinnick Stadium being named Slater Field, as well as a toast to college football legend Bobby Bowden, the iconic Florida State coach who passed away last week.Apple: https://apple.co/2QCEVQrGoogle: https://bit.ly/3gJxyScSpotify: https://spoti.fi/32V8vDATwitter: @TailgateKCPN

    Athletes: 1 SI: NIL

The Tailgate is coming in hot with their Shot-gunning Headlines! We've got our NBA Finals match-up set and we make our picks between Phoenix and Milwaukee. We touch on the dominance of Tampa Bay in the Stanley Cup Finals, some NFL news and returning players in college basketball. Sports Illustrated is put "on the grill" for being behind the times with their recent magazine cover that is critical of the NCAA student-athletes' victory in the NIL rule change. And we finish with a toast to some of those student-athletes who have decided to pool their NIL earnings to share with their teammates.Apple: https://apple.co/2QCEVQrGoogle: https://bit.ly/3gJxyScSpotify: https://spoti.fi/32V8vDATwitter: @TailgateKCPN

    There Goes Our Herro

The Tailgate crew brings you a brand new episode! The fellas had a lot of NBA to discuss, including the conference finals, Ty's Pistons landing the #1 pick in the NBA Draft lottery and the coaching carousel including Aaron's Celtics hiring Ime Udoka. The guys also discussed the Stanley Cup Finals between Montreal and Tampa Bay, the possible Tyrann Mathieu extension and had a tirade against the marriage pastor that screwed over Ben Zobrist. The NCAA was "Thrown on the Grill" for forcing NC State to forfeit their CWS Final Four game and finally a toast to Tyler Herro for leaving a workout to assist with the rescue efforts in Miami after the condo collapse.Listen to this episode and more from KCPN: Check out The Tailgate Podcast on all our other platforms! Welcome to a world in which Spider Tack is a sports term..

We were a man down due to Aaron being under the weather, but Ty and Duncan had support from Baby Archie who brought some screaming takes of his own! The boys discussed MLB finally cracking down on pitchers using foreign substances, the 2nd Round of the NBA Playoffs, and mandatory minicamp news across the NFL. Lastly, Ty had to throw his own beloved Michigan football program On The Grill, and gave an impassioned rant over an extremely dark mark on U of M history under former coach Bo Schembechler.Listen to this episode and more from KCPN: Check out The Tailgate Podcast on all our other platforms!
