    Jesus and the Sacrificial System

Episode 5 Study Guide Not every sacrifice was about sin, and blood was never a symbol of death. Here's what the sacrificial system actually did — and how it reframes Jesus entirely. A full breakdown of Israel's sacrificial system — sin offerings, burnt offerings, peace offerings, and the Day of Atonement's two goats — followed by Jesus' priesthood in the order of Melchizedek rather than Aaron, drawing on a Dead Sea Scrolls fragment most listeners have never heard of. In this episode: The different types of Levitical sacrifice and what each one actually accomplishedYom Kippur, the Day of Atonement, and the two goats chosen by lotWhy blood consecrates rather than merely symbolizing deathHebrews, Melchizedek, and the Dead Sea Scrolls fragment 11Q13 (11Q Melchizedek)Boaz, Ruth, and the go'el — what a "kinsman redeemer" actually did

Eat my Flesh and Drink my Blood

Episode 4 Study Guide Jesus said to eat his flesh and drink his blood. What did that actually mean before anyone called it communion? A close look at John 6's hardest saying, read without the later Eucharistic gloss — set against the wilderness feeding of the 5,000, Israel's own wilderness grumbling in Exodus 17, and the Torah's insistence that blood is life. Why would Jesus say something this shocking, and why did it cause his own followers to walk away? In this episode: John 6:25–58, the Bread of Life discourse, in its Second Temple Jewish contextExodus 17 and Massah and Meribah — Israel testing God in the wildernessLeviticus 17 and Deuteronomy 12 — why blood was forbidden as foodActs 15 and the Jerusalem Council's ruling on bloodCommunion, the Eucharist, and what "real food, real drink" actually meant

And With That, He Breathed on Them: Genesis 1-3 and Ezekiel Parallels in John

The Gospel of John begins with "In the beginning," but the echoes of Genesis don't stop there. This week, we track a massive literary parallel running from the creation and fall in Genesis 1–3, straight through the temple visions of Ezekiel, and landing in the resurrection accounts of John 1 and John 20–21. From the breath of life in the garden to Jesus breathing the Holy Spirit onto his disciples, we explore how the New Testament frames the resurrection as a radical act of new creation. If you are deconstructing old patterns and looking for a fresh, beautiful way to read scripture, this deep dive is for you. Episode 3 Study Guide

Bonus Episode (But Not Really-It is Crucial)

Methodology Reference Guide Why compare Ezekiel to John, or Elisha to Jesus? Here's the actual method behind it — and how to test it yourself. A bonus explainer episode pulling back the curtain on the exegetical method behind every episode of A Strange and Beautiful Kingdom. Using the feeding of the 5,000 in John 6 alongside Elisha's feeding of a hundred in 2 Kings 4 as a live case study, this episode lays out a precise, checkable framework for finding real biblical parallels — not vague pattern-matching. Jesus Said, Let's Have Breakfast: The Exploration of John 21 & Ezekiel 47

Have you ever wondered why the Gospel of John includes the exact number of 153 fish caught in the miraculous catch of John 21? It turns out this isn't just a random detail—it’s a profound theological riddle tied directly to the Hebrew prophets. In this episode, we connect Jesus' post-resurrection breakfast on the shore to the flowing waters of Ezekiel 47. We look past the standard "fishers of men" Sunday school lesson to uncover an ancient numerical pattern that changes how we view God’s global kingdom. Come, Breath, from the Four Winds: Ezekiel 37 & Revelation 7

Why did ancient prophets obsess over long-lost tribes, and what does it mean for us today? This week, we dig into the dramatic imagery of Ezekiel 37 and 47, exploring the prophecy of the Valley of Dry Bones and the symbolic act of the two sticks. By comparing these texts to the sealed 12 tribes of Israel in Revelation 7, we unpack how the New Testament reinterprets ancient prophetic restoration. If you’ve ever wondered why your Sunday school classes rushed past the complex tribal geography of scripture, pull up a chair as we wrestle with the stranger side of biblical prophecy.
