When Hurt Blocks Healing: Why Apologies Are Hard to Receive

Send us Fan Mail We talk about what happens when someone offers a real apology and our hurt still refuses to receive it. Because sometimes the apology is genuine. The accountability is there. The actions are changing. And still, something in us says, “No. Not yet.” In this episode, we explore the difference between protecting yourself and becoming trapped inside the pain, so healing does not require you to excuse, forget, or minimize what happened. • Why hurt can become its own form of defensiveness  • What separates real accountability from words meant to end discomfort  • The fear underneath forgiveness and receiving repair  • Why letting go does not mean letting someone off the hook  • How boundaries, trust, forgiveness, and reconciliation are different choices  • What to look for when someone is genuinely trying to change Receiving an apology does not erase the truth. Forgiveness does not automatically restore trust. And healing does not mean abandoning yourself. If someone came to mind while listening, share this episode with them. Not to say, “See, this is what you do.” Maybe simply to say: “Can we understand each other differently?” Please help support the Lift OneSelf podcast by liking, sharing, and subscribing. When Anger Becomes the Bodyguard: Are You Listening or Defending?

Send us Fan Mail Your chest tightens. Your thoughts speed up. And suddenly, you are not listening anymore. You are building a case. We have all been there. Someone says, “You hurt me,” or “I didn’t feel heard,” and before they even finish, anger has already stepped in to defend your character, your intention, and your version of what happened. In this episode, I’m talking about why anger can become the bodyguard for deeper emotions like shame, fear, rejection, powerlessness, and the pain of being misunderstood. Because when vulnerability feels too exposed, anger feels strong. And that is often when the bodyguard grabs the microphone. We also get into something I believe can change difficult conversations: Understanding is not agreement. You can listen to somebody’s experience and still disagree. You can understand how they got there and still say no. You can make room for their truth without abandoning your own. I also talk about what happens in the body when we feel attacked, why regulation matters when we are trying to listen, and how one breath can create enough space to respond instead of immediately defend. And we look at an uncomfortable question: Are you setting a boundary, or have you built a wall that keeps people from being able to understand you? If you want better communication, healthier boundaries, and more emotional safety in your relationships, this episode is for you. And when you finish listening, ask yourself: Am I listening to understand, or am I listening to defend? If someone came to mind while listening, share this episode with them, not to prove a point, but maybe to open a different kind of conversation. What If Your Grief Is A Compass

Send us Fan Mail Something is shifting, and you can feel it in your body before you can explain it with words. I sit down with artist and Creative Genius Podcast host Kate Shepherd for a tender, honest conversation about navigating a polarized world without letting fear flatten your humanity. We start with a mindful moment, then move straight into what it means to live at an intersection of beauty, devastation, and deep transformation, and why compassion is not weakness when you’re trying to keep going.  We talk about capacity as a real nervous system limit, how sleep, health, hormones, and stress change what you can hold, and why curating your inputs matters if you want to stay resourced. Kate shares the phrase that keeps finding her, “tip the scales,” and we explore intuition as a practical tool: learning to trust an inner yes or no, even when it clashes with expectations, identity, or the urge to be endlessly productive.  Kate also opens up about creative healing, from reclaiming her voice after early shame to seeing creativity as the animating intelligence of the universe that holds you when the well runs dry. We go into her nature-based jewelry work (Morning Moon and Pebble Bellies), the strange and beautiful way people respond to it, and how aligning work with the moon cycle can bring more flow and less burnout. We close with parenting, boundaries, and the permission many of us need most: you have permission to fall apart.  If this resonates, subscribe, share with a friend who needs steadier ground, and leave a review so more people can find these conversations. Joy Is Healing: Permission to Play, Laugh & Let Go

Send us Fan Mail Joy gets treated like a prize at the end of a long, exhausting race. We’re told to earn it, justify it, and postpone it until we’ve healed enough, worked enough, suffered enough. But that mindset quietly keeps us stuck in survival mode, where scrolling replaces play and “being productive” replaces being alive. We sit together for a short, grounding reset that speaks directly to burnout, nervous system overload, and the belief that rest is lazy or softness is weak. We talk about why joy isn’t the reward at the end of healing, it’s the healing, and how play can be a portal back to your purpose. You’ll hear simple, practical permission to laugh loudly, dance even when it makes no “logical” sense, and let yourself feel light while you’re still working through heavy things. There’s also a quick somatic practice you can do anywhere: a hand on your chest to feel your heartbeat as proof you’ve made it through every day you thought you wouldn’t. We close with a mantra you can carry into the rest of your day,  “IAM, therefore IWILL” plus a gentle challenge to do one thing with zero purpose except that it makes you feel alive. If you’re craving more support, we also share details for Slow and Steady on September 24th at Rainbow Minerals, including mirror work and a sound bowl ceremony designed for release and play in community. Subscribe, share this with someone who needs permission, and leave a review with one playful thing you’re choosing today. Stillbirth, Soul Contracts and Finding Purpose: A Live Akashic Reading on Grief and Stepping Into Your Power

Send us Fan Mail What if clarity wasn't something you chased, but something you tuned into? Business and energy expansion coach Kanika joins us to demystify the Akashic Records a living library of soul knowledge that heals root patterns, strengthens identity, and brings your life and business into true alignment. Kanika's story begins where many of us hide: success on paper, emptiness within. After the heartbreaking stillbirth of her daughter, she could no longer outrun the pain. That loss cracked her open to faith, mentorship, and eventually trained clairvoyance and now she helps clients do the same. Together we unpack why symptom-level fixes fail, how relationships carry old agreements, and what changes when you heal at the source. We reframe time from something to manage into something to design. We explore beliefs as scaffolding for action, trauma as the distance from self, and the simple but radical question: what do I want to create? Midway through, Kanika opens the Akashic Records for a live reading. What arrives isn't prediction it's permission. A crossed portal, ancestral guides, a ceremonial crowning. Commit to your next self and let support meet you there. We close with the reminder that anchors everything: you are love. Ask for more of it and watch the path brighten. If this sparked something, share it with someone ready to stop managing their life and start designing it. Fear Is Not The Boss: How to Stop Letting Fear Control Your Life

Send us Fan Mail Fear doesn’t just warn you. It can recruit a whole committee, draft a presentation, and convince your body to brace for a future that hasn’t even happened. In this episode, I explore why fear can feel more familiar than trusting Life, how our nervous system uses the past to predict what comes next, and why trying to control Life can really be an attempt to avoid feeling disappointment, grief, rejection, uncertainty, or pain. I also challenge the idea that if you manifest properly, think positively enough, or stay perfectly aligned, Life will always unfold according to your design. Painful experiences are not automatic proof that you failed, weren’t positive enough, or somehow deserved what happened. For me, the work is not creating a Life where nothing painful ever happens. It’s becoming internally resourced enough to navigate what does happen. We talk about surrender, psychosomatic stress, fear versus certainty, and what it means to stay connected to yourself when you don’t know what comes next. I’ll also guide you through a short breathing and somatic reflection practice to notice how uncertainty, trust, desire, and receiving actually feel in your body. Because fear can inform us without becoming the authority. And trusting Life is not the same as believing you can control Life. Batman Needed the Crime

Send us Fan Mail The world feels shaky, and the easiest trap to fall into is black and white thinking: a clean hero, a clear villain, and a fast emotional hit that keeps us reactive instead of reflective. We want certainty because it feels safe, but that safety can come at a cost. When we numb out or stay permanently triggered, we lose critical thinking, empathy, and the ability to see the full picture. We use an unexpected mirror to widen the lens: Batman and the Joker. As kids, many of us are taught to idolize the hero without questions. As adults, the Joker’s “crazy” rants about corruption and broken systems can start to sound like truth we can’t unhear. Then comes the uncomfortable layer most people skip: what if Batman needs the crime, not to save Gotham, but to avoid his own grief? What if the cape is an identity built around a wound, a way to stay busy, needed, and defended from feeling it all? From a somatic and emotional sobriety perspective, we explore how we’re conditioned to feel safe with the heroic and unsafe with the disruptive and why that’s often nervous system programming, not wisdom. We talk about holding contradiction, hearing truth without becoming destruction, and what real healing demands when the identity you built to survive starts to hold you back. If this resonates, share the episode with someone who’s tired of being pulled into extremes, subscribe for more, and leave a review so more people can find the work. What identity have you built around your wound, and what would have to die for you to lay it down? You Already Know Who Keeps Breaking Your Wings

Send us Fan Mail  You already know who keeps breaking your wings. You've known for a while. So why are you still there? This episode tells the story of a scorpion and a butterfly, two beings who cannot coexist, even when they want to. It's not about good or bad. It's about incompatibility. And sometimes, love cannot grow where someone's patterns keep causing harm. We explore why you stay when you know better: the savior complex, the belief that your love can change someone, the fear that leaving means admitting you failed. We look at nervous system reflexes, trauma responses, and the gap between intention and safety. If you're the butterfly, you'll hear why choosing yourself isn't selfish, it's survival. If you're the scorpion, you'll hear why wanting to be good isn't the same as doing the work to become safe. Context isn't an excuse. It's a map. You don't owe anyone your wings.
