Wes walked out, threw a backflip, landed it slightly wrong, picked up the microphone, and the first words out of his mouth were an apology for the backflip. He has not had a soda, a coffee, or an energy drink in fourteen years. He knows the exact date he quit. He drinks half a gallon of chocolate milk a day instead, which prompted our host to tell him, on air, that he must have tremendous bones. He deleted Hinge. He describes his time on it as having made a lot of friends. King Wes is 29, six foot, from Plymouth by way of a town in Iowa where his high school graduating class was 48 people. He's a teaching pro at Medina Country Club who won a tournament the day before this taping, and in the winter he runs a ski trip company and chases snow to Japan. There's a stem cell company that sponsors him. His Rottweiler, Rainy, is his backpacking partner and, in his words, his best friend. And he'll tell you flat out that he doesn't watch movies and hasn't seen a football game in years, because he's a doer, not a watcher. Remember that part. Three blind dates. Ten minutes each. A FACE FOUNDRIÉ facial for the winning couple. And a Shoot Your Shot that rewrote the whole night. Date 1: Brynn — 25, supply chain analyst, from a town of 700 with a graduating class of 22, now in South Minneapolis. She is banned from Hinge, and the reason is that she put her Venmo in her profile and asked strangers to sponsor her next Disney trip. Nobody sent a dollar. She's been to Disney about ten times. She also does impressions of people to their faces, and she says she only needs a little while to learn somebody's tendencies before she can do them. She's about to get ten minutes and a microphone. Date 2: Kayla — 27, real estate out in Lakeville, six years behind a bar before that. She has been to Kwik Trip at least four hundred times. One summer she went twice a day, every day, and ordered a hot dog and a corn dog and a Diet Coke on both trips. She has also, at 27 years old, never eaten a hamburger. Not once. Not a Juicy Lucy, not anything. She rescued a dog who'd spent eighteen months in a kill shelter and hated people, then brought him to work at the bar every single day until he didn't. And she carries a harmonica everywhere she goes. She can play exactly two songs, and neither one is the song this room is going to ask for. Date 3: Blythe — 25, from the Jersey Shore, moved to the North Loop last month, and she is a brand new veterinarian. Until she was twelve her legal middle name was "Female," because her mother filled out the birth certificate wrong, and she changed it and now regrets changing it. For her birthday she is hosting a drunk spelling bee, where you win by spelling the most words and also by being the drunkest. She once entered a hot dog eating contest, ate one and a half, and came in last. Also: Wes mentioned earlier in the night that Rainy has a bad leg and an expensive specialist appointment coming. Blythe is the only person in the building who can do anything about that. Then Tobi opened the floor for Shoot Your Shot. The first time we ran this segment at Graze, a man walked up out of the crowd and won the entire night. This week somebody got out of her seat who had not come here planning to do anything of the kind. Wes said it himself, early: he's a doer, not a watcher. So is she. Hosted by Tobi Shamu.
