    Are You Listening to Jesus?

Are You Listening to Jesus? Most of us say yes to that question quickly. Jack Merrill asks us to answer it slowly. We call Jesus Lord, but when did you last ask him what he wanted before you made your plans? In this message, guest speaker Jack Merrill brings us to the simple, searching question of whether we are actually hearing Jesus and doing what He says. Jack puts it plainly: it's better to be grumpy and obedient than happy and disobedient. He also names one of the quieter threats to a faithful life. Quoting Dallas Willard, Jack reminds us that if the devil can't make you sin, he'll make you busy. Jesus knew the problem of noise. He got alone with God because he knew that if he stayed surrounded by it, he wouldn't hear his Father's voice. Jack offers a practical place to start: pray, "Let your will be done," every day. And he leaves us with a test that is hard to dodge. If you're not consulting Jesus, he's not your Lord. If you're in a busy season and wondering how to hear God's voice, or what obedience looks like when you don't feel like it, this message is for you.

    Peace in His Presence

This Sunday, Swiss Cove welcomed guest speaker Brandon Warren for a message titled "Peace in His Presence," drawn from Hebrews 4. If you've ever felt like rest is something you have to earn — one more task cleared, one more box checked — this message pushes back on that. Hebrews 4 points to a rest that isn't first about a day off, but about a Person: the "Sabbath rest" God has already made for His people, entered not by working harder but by trusting Him. Brandon walks through what it means to stop striving for peace and instead receive it, because Jesus, our great high priest, invites us to "approach the throne of grace with confidence" rather than earn our way in. Whether you're running on empty or just tired of trying to prove yourself to God, this message is an invitation to stop striving and rest in His presence.

    Built for This

In the finale of the You Already Are series, Elliott looks at what it means to belong to something bigger than yourself. Drawing from 1 Peter 2:1-5 and 9-10, he unpacks Peter's picture of the church as living stones being built into a spiritual house — a holy priesthood that already belongs to God, even while it's still under construction. Using a story from pouring concrete on a mission trip in Colombia, he names three ways people cope with feeling invisible or insignificant: becoming performers, pretenders, or prisoners. Then he turns to Scripture's answer — you are already a masterpiece, not because of what you can do, but because of who God has made you to be. This message speaks directly to anyone wrestling with their identity in Christ, wondering if their quiet, unnoticed work actually matters, or feeling like they need to earn their place with God. It's a fitting close to the You Already Are series, showing that your identity was never something to perform, hide, or give up on — it was given.

    Raised to Life

We all have a voice from our past that shows up uninvited — an old argument, an old failure, a version of us we thought we'd left behind. In "Raised to Life," week two of the You Already Are series, Elliott shares a deeply personal moment when a panic attack revealed just how alive that old voice still felt, even years later. Walking through Ephesians 2:1-10 and Romans 6:1-11, he unpacks what it means for a follower of Jesus to be dead to sin but alive in Christ — and why continuing to listen to that old self, whether it drives you to perform, to pretend, or to stay stuck like a prisoner, is like standing at a grave arguing with a corpse. Baptism isn't a symbolic gesture; Paul calls it an actual burial, and once the old self is in the grave, he has no authority left to speak into your life. This message is for anyone still wrestling with shame, still exhausted from trying to prove their worth, or still waiting to believe the door out of their prison cell is really open. You don't earn the new life God has already given you — you simply stop arguing with the dead man and start walking in it. You are a mess and a masterpiece, both at once. Watch or listen below, and if today is your day to bury the old self in baptism, Elliott would love to talk with you afterward.

    Made

"Made" opens our new series, You Already Are, with a question most of us are afraid to say out loud: Are you a mess, or are you a masterpiece? Elliott starts with a memory from his early twenties — strutting into an empty worship center and announcing out loud how good he was — and uses it to name a lie almost everyone believes: that we have to be one or the other, never both. That lie sends people down one of three roads: performer, pretender, or prisoner. Most of us have lived on all three streets in the same week. From there, Elliott turns to Mark 1:9-13 and the moment the Father declares His love for Jesus at the Jordan River — before Jesus performed a single miracle, preached a single sermon, or proved Himself in any way. That's the pattern for us, too. Drawing on Romans 5:8, this message makes the case that God's love was never rooted in what we bring to the table. It isn't earned, and it can't be lost. Whether you've spent years performing, pretending, or convinced yourself the door is locked for good, "Made" is an invitation to stop living for God's love and start living from it.

    In This Together

If you've ever come home from a mountaintop experience — a mission trip, a conference, a breakthrough in counseling — only to watch that faith and clarity quietly evaporate within a couple of weeks, you're not imagining it. In "In This Together," Elliott shares a moment from a men's mission trip to Santiago, Dominican Republic, where the hardest conversation of the whole week wasn't on the field — it was the night before coming home. From there, he traces why we can be surrounded by people and still feel isolated, and why insight so often gets mistaken for change. Drawing from Mark 2:1-5, the story of four friends who tore open a roof to lower a paralyzed man in front of Jesus, Elliott makes the case that this is exactly the kind of friendship discipleship requires — not people who hold your pain or hand you a pep talk, but people willing to carry you, and be carried, into the presence of Jesus. With Proverbs 17:17, Proverbs 18:24, and Galatians 6:2 as anchors, this message pushes past generic talk about Christian community into a direct challenge: faith fades in isolation, and the fix isn't more information, it's a Group small enough that someone notices when you're missing. If you've been asking what real Christian friendship looks like, or wondering why your faith seems to fade after the big moments end, this message is for you.

    One Day at a Time

If you've ever wondered what to do with pain you can't seem to put down, this message is for you. In the opening sermon of a new series called A Long Obedience, Elliott shares the story of his final in-person gathering with the men who've spent the last three years pointing him back to Jesus — and asks a question every one of us eventually has to answer: when the people and rhythms that used to catch you are gone, what do you do with the weight you're still carrying? The answer starts in the wilderness. In Exodus 16:1-16, God feeds the newly freed Israelites with bread from heaven — but only enough for one day at a time. Not a month's supply. Not even a week's. Just enough, every single morning, so they'd learn to depend on Him instead of hoarding, hiding, or staying busy enough to ignore the ache underneath it all. Paul picks up the same thread in Romans 5:1-5, where suffering brought to God — not suffering endured alone — produces perseverance, character, and hope. This message is an honest look at where you're actually taking your pain, and an invitation to bring it to God every day instead of carrying it yourself. It closes at the Table, where we remember that God's provision cost Him everything. This is the first message in our A Long Obedience series. Watch or listen below.

    Your People

If you've ever felt lonely in a crowd — surrounded by people at church, at work, online — but still couldn't say you have "your people," this message is for you. In Your People, Elliott looks at what happened right after the church was born in Acts 2:42-47 and points out something surprising: the first Christians never went looking for community. They were devoted to Jesus — to His teaching, to prayer, to breaking bread, and to each other — and the relationships they'd been longing for showed up as a byproduct of that devotion, not as the goal itself. Elliott traces why loneliness has become an epidemic even inside the church, unpacks the difference between attendance and devotion, and lands on a simple but hard truth: the right people are on the other side of the right purpose. Whether you're wrestling with isolation, still searching for real Christian community, or trying to figure out where you fit at Swiss Cove, this message points you to the actual starting point — surrender to what Jesus has already called you to do. It's also a look at how that truth is playing out right now through the Ignite Initiative, as people who've said yes to the mission are finding each other along the way.
