    Culture Vulture: 3–9 October 2026

Hello and welcome to Culture Vulture, your guide to the coming week's television, film, streaming and radio highlights. This week takes us from one of Britain's most heartbreaking true crime stories to eerie modern horror, classic British cinema, music documentaries, political drama and a healthy dose of folk terror. Three programmes stand out above all others. First, on Monday night, BBC Two revisits a case that has never really left the public consciousness. Damilola: The Untold Story looks back twenty-six years after the killing of ten-year-old Damilola Taylor in South London. Rather than simply revisiting the crime, the documentary focuses on the boy himself and on the family, friends and community who knew him. It promises a more thoughtful and human approach than the usual true-crime formula. Then on Friday comes one of the most talked-about horror films of recent years. Longlegs arrives on BBC Two, starring Maika Monroe as an FBI agent investigating a series of disturbing killings, with Nicolas Cage delivering one of the strangest performances of his career. It's less interested in jump scares than in creating a sense of creeping dread that stays with you long after the credits roll. And finally, BBC Four offers a chance to revisit Kevin Elyot's remarkable play My Night with Reg. First staged in the 1990s, it explores friendship, love, jealousy and loss among a group of gay men living in the shadow of the AIDS crisis. Funny, moving and beautifully written, it remains one of the finest British plays of the past thirty years. Away from those headline picks, the week is packed with cinematic treats.
